They could sell Combat Mission T-Shirts, though.  I would buy a decent one.

Was the ability to control individual soldiers in a FPS mode already mentioned?
Gotta think out of the box for CM3!
    That, and Fulda Gap.

CM Fulda would be an instant success because it would include the American forces and the people who were in their twenties or served in Germany in the 80's, are probably the biggest demographics among the CM players. Right now, there's a huge resurgence in Cold War going hot on the board gaming scene.

CM Blitzkrieg probably wouldn't sell that well, because there would be no Americans plus there's a common perception, that those campaigns were uninteresting walkovers. Strategically and operationally maybe, but on the tactical CM level, the French or the Poles had some tanks, anti-tank weapons or small weapons, that were at least equal to their German counterparts. Consequently there were a lot of small scale engagements, that were far from being one-sided.

CM Middle East, as @slysniper mentioned, the Arab-Israeli fighting was the only high end and high intensity warfare during the Cold War, that could serve as a template for the potential NATO-WP confrontation. Personally I find this topic fascinating. The Lebanon 1982 could serve as real life Shock Force game, that would include a mixture of conventional and unconventional fighting, but again - there would be no Americans in it...

Combat Mission Fulda Gap with M1A1, M60A3, T64s and of course T80s

But my preference is a faster and prettier engine, with 64bit and true multicore support

I would really like to see a Fulda Gap game show up sometimes. It should present the time of the seventees, because it would be very different to WWII and not showing all the software driven gadgets we see at CM:BS and CM:SF. There would be a very variable terrain, lots of interesting equipment of many different nations and lot of opportunities for add on modules. Even if it takes some years from now, it should definitively be on the roadmap. For me a must buy. And, additionally, many German terrain items could be reused from the end of WWII module already planned.
Man, I would love to initiate a counterattack using Leopard1, HS30, recon with Hotchkiss SPz Kurz or Luchs and all this other fancy equipment against hordes of Sovjet tanks.

I do this in Command, ARMA, and Steel Beasts.  The goal is to build a plan on both sides that minimizes human intervention.  This is true sandbox play.  90% of my play in CM is hotseat so I can tinker with different plans.  It can teach a  lot about how things work by letting you take a step back and watch it play out.
I should point out that one thing these three games have in common is the powerful scripting capabilities that let an experience designer do very unique and un-AI-like things.

Don't do that. This is a mistake that I see a lot by many different people. The Assault command is just a bounding overwatch drill (leap frog). Very useful in many situations, but room clearing is not one of them. For room clearing, you want to have as much firepower directed at the target building as possible, and when you enter the building you do not want to do it piecemeal.
Here is a very simplified example of how I conduct MOUT:
For simplicity sake, this will only be a 1 squad demonstration using the US Army, but you can scale this up to multiple squads, to platoons, etc, as well as other nations.
First thing is to split off an Assault Team:

This results in a team of 4 men with rifles and a lot of handheld grenades. The squad leader, a Staff Sergeant, leads the section. This is important as his leadership will help give you an edge in morale in a close firefight:

The second team is the remainder of the squad, 5 men, led by the assistant squad leader, a Sergeant. They have both of the squads SAWs and lots of ammo. This makes them an ideal base of fire element, which is exactly how I am using them in this example:

As you can see, they are on the second floor of a building overlooking the target building, and they have a target arc covering only the target building and the immediate surroundings. This way, they won't get distracted by engaging other targets that appear elsewhere, and will instantly engage any threats that appear in the target building.
The assault team is given a series of movement points and pauses for its movement to, and entrance into the target building:

First, the assault team will wait 20 seconds before moving into the open. That way, the entire squad has time to orient themselves on the target building and see if there is any initial activity. If you've already had the target building under observation you can skip the first pause.
The first movement order is a Quick move to cover, the low wall. The reason I use a Quick move here is so that if the assault team does take fire from the building, they can return fire as they move to cover. When they get to the wall, they will pause for 10 seconds. This allows them to both catch their breath and observe the building from a closer position. If they were engaged during the run to the wall, this will allow them to put more fire into the threat.

Then, I use a Hunt command on the movement to the outside of the building. This will allow the team to spot better as it approaches, and immediately hit the ground and return fire if they are engaged. When they reach the outside of the target building, they pause again for 10 seconds to look in the windows/doors for any bad guys that might be hiding inside. This pause can be longer, but I recommend at least 10 seconds. 5 tends to be too short.

Finally, the final command is a Quick move order into the target building. This part is very important. It is imperative that once you commit to entering a building, you do it quickly and with the entire assaulting element entering the building. The Quick command is used because the team will run into the building, but will still pause momentarily to engage targets before continuing on.

Others may have a different way of doing this, there is plenty of nuance to MOUT. There are also many situational factors that influence which specific technique is best. I'm using the above as an example of a template you can always fall back on and build from. For example, if you had two squads available you could use one squad as the base of fire element and the second as the assault element. If the target building was occupied and you knew that, you could use the base of fire element to put suppressing fire into the building before the assaulting element moves, and while the assaulting element is moving to the building.
Do not Hunt into a building. All this will do is get your men stuck in a fatal funnel. The second they take fire, they will immediately stop and go prone. Many times, they will do this in the direct line of fire of the enemy at point blank range, and will get slaughtered in short order.
Avoid rooftops when possible. You are much more exposed on a rooftop, and can be much more easily spotted by the enemy. That said, sometimes the roof provides the best vantage point, or the only vantage point and you have to take a risk.
All that said, the single best way to clear out a house (or a town for that matter) is to destroy it with indirect or direct fires from heavy weapons, and prod the rubble with a bayonet afterwards, but this is not always possible/practical.
    Hopefully this helps!

    In that order please. 🙂

Well, Fulda Gap or an Arab Israeli war would be a cool opening game for CM3 and would get my vote.
Up above (page 2, I think) Steve from Battlefront said, "Whenever CM3 comes into being, whatever Western Front game we have for it will most likely outsell all the others (by far).
I guess the Western Front game could be the second or third release for a CM3  and not the first ............?  However, not sure what the odds of that is.

I haven't done this yet but, after, my first go at it, I wondered, if placing my, soon to be destroyed, troop transports/supply vehicles, perpendicular, across the interior and exterior entrances, (that is, of course, after taking as much ammo out of them as I could, including, equipping the drivers and dismounting them to positions inside the fortress) would help keep my troops from fleeing the fortress which of course would delay the enemy troops from getting themselves embedded inside the fortress until my reinforcement's arrive, looks like I'm going to have to fire it up and give it a go.
I know it doesn't solve the fleeing troops problem but this seems to be problematic in the other platforms too, it kills me when I see panicked and broken enemy troops running and firing straight at me. It feels like we are being dumbed down purposely to make winning these scenario's harder and harder to win at, just try putting a point target arty request on the bmp in the training mission and you'll be guaranteed multiple hits on the mosque and every else except for the bmp, SF1 & Black Sea, never had a problem with precise arty mission requests.

None of us believed that we would actually use those tactical nuclear weapons. I was nuclear artillery qualified back then. The most important thing we learned was how to use the explosive charges to blow them into tiny pieces so they didn't fall into the Russians hands when we got overrun.
NO ONE believed we would nuke West Germany to save it. Everyone believed that once any nuclear weapon was used, it would be impossible to contain it to a strictly "tactical" exchange. That was the entire reason for the INF treaty. The weapons covered by it are very destabilizing as they leave almost no reaction time for the other side to make a decision on what to do. And there were  A LOT of them. 10s of thousands.

A playthrough of the CMSF 2 Demo "Alama" scenario featuring German Bundeswehr forces.
I am almost only utilizing the interface for issuing orders (except for mandatory hotkeys like SHIFT+"Target Arc") so this is also suitable as a learning resource for new players to get an idea how one possible approach to Combat Mission overall could look like and how to achieve total victory in this scenario.

Team Yankee!!!!  (Funny enough in Team Yankee they do confront a nuclear launch by Russia taken from Hackett's World War 3 novel scenario and the corresponding response for units at the front line and it is eminently doable with CM )
This nuclear discussion is not helping to sway Steve's mind so if you are interested in a Fulda Gap game I suggest not bringing it up every time someone says let's have CM Fulda Gap.....
