And Operation Market garden was mostly British or Commonwealth affair, Monty's great idea to shorten the war and to give more prestige to Brits. UK was in little bit sidekick role (like Batman and Robin ) in Western Front after US went to European Theatre [ May 25, 2008, 02:49 PM: Message edited by: Molotov Cocktail ]
JonS
I suspect the first WW2 module will be more narrowly focussed than the thinking I'm seeing here. Has it even been confirmed as Normandy? No matter; let's assume it has. In that case I'd expect it to be tightly focussed on something like the 101st AB Div on D-Day then the fight down to take Carentan, or 29th Inf Div from OMAHA to St Lo. Obviously the sandbox editor would allow imagination to take things wider than that, but if either of the above were to come to pass then the Allied OoB would only include a couple of Shermans types, but no Sherman 76mms, the M-10, and the Stuart. The German OoB would be very limited in terms of vehs - no Tigers or Panthers, and in fact no German tanks at all. There'd be a couple of StuG types (long and short 75mm) and perhaps a couple of old French tanks to tickle the paras, some Marders and some SdKfz 250s and 251s, but that'd be about it. It heavily depends on the setting of course. A slightly later timeframe and/or slightly different geographic area would see Pz Lehr, 2nd Panzer, and 2nd SS Pz invovled, with all their toys. Fast forward a couple of months, and the setting could be the Mortain counter attack, which could see quite a wide variety of German and US armour. OTOH, AFAICS there is no plausible US-based setting in Normandy that would include Tigers.
