danfrodo
Just saw that BBC will be releasing a new 6-part miniseries based on Ben MacIntyre's excellent SAS Rogue Heroes history. All I see for release date is '2022'. Has the excellent Jack O'Donnell.

Lille Fiskerby
I hope were in for a "Sterling" miniseries .
Warts 'n' all
Hopefully it will more accurate than "Poxy Bleeders", although I very much doubt it.

BornGinger
Of course you will @Gumbootseven if it only is to find out if it is going to be as bad as you think. Just look at all of those haters of the Rings of Power tv-series. They complain but still watch it.

Warts 'n' all
I gave it a try. But sadly, just like "Poxy Bleeders", it's garbage. Aunty did make an excellent series about the early days of the SAS many moons ago. It would have been better if they had just sent someone into the archive to hunt it out, and given it a digital makeover. Ho hum.

The Forgotten Battle movie was made recently, on netflix, and was good. I was hoping for more like that. Hey, wait a minute -- I liked Peaky Blinders. So maybe there's still a chance for me with this.....

Aragorn2002
BBC is rubbish nowadays. All that political correctness has eliminated all the decent tv series. With political correctness I don't mean more colored people and human right issues, I'm all in favor of that, but the fact that every series should have a 'message', which weakens the story. Series like George Gently and Endeavour proved that's not necessary. They don't even broadcast Rugby Union Autumn Internationals this year. chuckdyke
If the bad guys are dressed in civvies, you must give them the benefit of the doubt till proven otherwise. Political correctness gone mad.

I put "bad" in quotes, cos there haven't been any really bad baddies yet.

It is a trial by the media while the other side is presumed innocent till found guilty.

The late great Colin Dexter wouldn't have made that mistake. Edited November 3, 2022 by Warts 'n' all

Anxel Torrente
So @Gumboots what did you think of the tv-series? Don't lie and say that you didn't watch it.
womble
It will annoy everyone here. "Wait til you see the power of the twin vickers machine gun [on the jeeps I've got coming]". Nope. Those are Lewis guns, not Vickers. And that Ma Deuce is more powerful than about 4 of them put together. But it's fun nonsense, rather than a docudrama.
BornGinger
This tv-series made me think of some of the comedies from the '40s I watched as a kid. Edited November 22, 2022 by BornGinger

The only trailer I'd seen when this thread first appeared was indeed "crap". And it turned out to be the opening scene of the first episode, not a good start. I found the series itself watchable for the most part, except when it went into mediocre "rock video" mode. It was highly fictionalized, and I probably won't bother rewatching it on the iPlayer unless I'm really stuck for something to watch.
Aragorn2002
I'm still waiting for a decent British version of Band of Brothers, following a British infantry platoon in Normandy 1944. Probably not going to happen and when it does it will have little to do with how it really was.
