They aren't "blind" per se, but compared to the Americans I think they are definitely at a disadvantage with their optics. 😎

It is, very. The mantra at the time was "If you can be seen you will be hit. If you are hit, you are dead" Minimizing exposure was high emphasis. It wasn't always possible of course.

dbsapp reacted to Erwin in FORECAST SERIES: Putin’s Likely Course of Action in Ukraine
The reason one can be 99% confident that the "crisis" is manufactured and will blow over is that Russia cannot afford to lose the 9.5 billion Euro Nordstream II plus the massive income Russia will receive from gas sales and ditto neither can the European corporations and investors who invested close to 5 billion Euros into it. (The other 5 billion came from Russia.)
In addition, Putin keeps insisting he has no intention of invading Ukraine. No matter what one thinks of leaders like Putin they have to maintain credibility otherwise why would anyone do biz with him at all? Imo it's all a power play with well-connected people "in the know" making vast sums of money from the fluctuations of Russian shares. It also helps distract people from other calamities like govts' incompetent handling of Covid etc.

dbsapp got a reaction from Bufo in Does Soviet tactics work in Combat Mission?
I know what will happen:
Finally they will change how artillery damage works.
All subsystems of T-72 and T-90 will be blown away by near hit. If there is a direct hit on Abrams some of secondary subsystems will turn little yellow.
That will be presented as substantial progress, realism and listening to community.
I will quote this post.

Remember that the top armor is the weakest on all MBTs.
Some related simulations:
155mm M107 vs Leopard 1 hull top (30mm)
152.4mm F-534 HE vs RU251 armor (20mm thick)

Abrams #2:
Abrams #1:
Abrams #4:
I had four tanks lined up, each taking 3x excaliber rounds per salvo. All of these tanks should have been outright destroyed. Tank #4 didn't even take any subsystem damage.
Abrams #3:
Shell lands right under the smoke discharger and nothing changes on the subsystems. Then a second round lands just behind it and the discharger is a little more broken. It, and the tank should have been outright destroyed.
Abrams #4:
Shells land on top, behind, and in front of vehicle and do minimal subsystem damage.
Abrams #2:
Takes shell to the top, side and behind. Should have been killed.
Abrams #1:
Should have been killed after the first two salvos.

dbsapp got a reaction from Artkin in Gran He Precision strikes
There are no precision munitions for Ukraninan 120 mm mortars.
From the manual:
"American 155 mm artillery, Russian 122 mm and 152 mm, and Ukrainian 152 mm artillery have precision ammunition. American and Russian 120 mm mortars have "near-precision" rounds that while still very accurate, are not quite as accurate artillery precision ammunition.
Other important notes for precision artillery missions:
- Precision missions must use a Point target.
- Russian and Ukrainian precision missions are laser-guided, which requires that the spotter team possess a laser designator. American precision missions are GPS-guided, which do not require a laser designator.
- Precision missions do not have a duration. The maximum number of shells that can be dropped during a mission is one per gun".

There was an interesting topic here on why avtive protection systems on tanks don't contain more than 4 rounds.
The answer: because the debris from destroyed RPG\ATGM and defensive projectile would damage APS system quicker than it can use more than 4 shots.
Now imagine what artillery can do.

Agreed.
Have a list of culprits:

You'll note that neither Russia, nor the Soviet Union are actually terribly prominent among them.

From their perspective it was.....Sevastapol is massively important to Russia.
But I suspect you know that full well and that you are being disingenuous.
If China sponsored a Hawaiian revolution threatening Pearl Harbour, how do you think the US would respond?
PS - Once again, I felt that I should point this out:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimean_War
Saying the Crimea is not historically Russian or that Sevastapol does not reperesent a vital strategic interest for Russia is lunacy, plain & simple.

If it was a direct hit, that probably should not have happened.....It's more or less the same as taking a direct hit from a destroyer!
If the shell impacted on the armour the Tiger the crew should be going benny-mental.....There are descriptions from crews of their tanks 'ringing like a bell' and of being able to see daylight through the weld-seams after ISU rounds exploded on their armour.
Needless to say, the tanks broke and the crew didn't stay in them to find out exactly how long it would take for the welds to crack completely and for the turret roof to fall on their heads!
Here's some of their handiwork on Panthers:
