  1. Last night I watched an old BBC documentary filmed over many years in the Soviet Union (quite revealing and scary, particulary with hindsight). And I would say that Boris Yeltsin proved your point way back then .
  2. Apologies, I did. I also have to confess to not knowing whether progress on modern titles has been meagre or not. Or whether work on the professional version has been a golden goose, or kept the boat afloat etc. but I assume a bit of both.
  3. Very interesting Bil. I suppose you'd have to shoot me if you told me anything more about this? Anyway, I obviously can't apply, being an 'alien'. And not having the required skill-set would not help either.
  4. Maybe that's the question - I get that releasing BPs etc. is easier and less risky than going Early War or even 'worse' releasing a whole new title. Steve obviously knows the $$$ equation better than we do and it's his business after all. If there is one and it's North Afrika, a few of my $ would be heading that way. I think the explanation is that Red Thunder has not been the only thing on the 'to do' list? Understood, but sad all the same . Tell me it's not true .
  5. To be fair, there have been quite a few posts saying such things, and if things get said enough, well there must be something behind them right? Or not, as the case seems to be this time. Anyway, at the risk of looking like I'm kissing somewhere I shouldn't, I'd like to thank @Battlefront.com for the engagement and front of house plus the rest as described above, and also @Battlefront for the behind the scenes work. And with that, my kissing is complete . Let the flames now engulf me.
  6. Plus the oft-quoted '80% of German casualties were on the East Front'. Of course this doesn't mean that 80% of wargamers should favour CMRT over other titles .
  7. That makes a lot of sense, with the first option being preferable. Certainly full disclosure of prior knowledge is a must if that's the case.
  8. I think me too, on an Atari ST into which I'd soldered extra memory (16 chips, each with 16 pins) directly onto the motherboard, yikes . I did like that game though, in between bouts (sometimes weekends) of Dungeon Master or the original Doom.
  9. As others have said that's great news. And it's great to see you back even though I wasn't here the first time . I have however seen your name on a lot of excellent work, so thankyou for that and any future stuff.
  10. Just a thought Phil, and correct me if I'm wrong, but all you would need is a Steam account, and your previous purchases of titles from BFC would give you access to the titles on Steam (assuming the titles you have are on Steam, but they 'soon' all will be I think). Would that also give you access to the Steam community creations you describe? I would have thought so. Or is having a Steam account the problem? EDIT: I have played ASL face to face, crawling around on the living room floor as the table was otherwise occupied. Avoiding an invasion by the cat was troublesome.
  11. Makes sense Steve, thanks. I suppose I just imagined a lot of that being done right at the last minute i.e. after game 'front' loading, battle/save selection or whatever, and then the hard graft starts as the actual battle is cranked up. It matters not to me though. An effect of the above is that once a title has been loaded in a PC session, it will load up a second time far quicker in the same session - at least that's my experience. I would also say that a lot of my Action Phase turns are focused on not being shot at .
  12. Don't worry Jo, not yet, not yet . I don't have time for more titles anyway . Hope all is well with you.
  13. If the cooling fans on my laptop are anything to go by, the loading phases (game, scenario selection and scenario load) are more challenging to the hardware than the action phases. I confess to never having really understood that.
  14. Agreed, but the wonderful work of @George MC with large scale maps and varied elevations (plus much more) proves that such things are possible. Having just played the great BP Cat and Mouse by PBEM, which is around 3k by 4.5k, I can say that my opponent and I both commented on how great the map was. Hats off to George yet again .
  15. I think the issue may be that the installer only takes you to 4.00, then you need the patch for 4.01 up to 4.04? But I may be totally mistaken... As for using the BFC files or waiting for Steam, if you're looking for a quick result go for BFC.
  16. Thanks Erwin, you've scratched my collector's itch. Do you happen to know where I could get the extra ones? I thought I'd dredged everything from the usual places. Only 8 and bit years ago . There may be a few more on there like that.
  17. I think those will be just the user made scenarios. Here's what I have in my CMBN scenarios folder with an MG prefix (although some are master maps):
