  1. Yes thought I had it all figured out, fast speed unlikely to be hit. Then.... he drove on a mine.
  2. Combined arms, experiment with artillery light + large area fire. Then send in your ACs to do their recon in that area. I did it in modern warfare, but it seems to work.
  3. 5.56 mm are prone to deflect when you fire through shrub. 7.62 mm whether NATO or the 7.62x39 mm SKS or AK47 deflect less. I understand the mass of the 5.56 mm has increased to about 80grain compared to the 55grain previously. The best rounds to compare it with are the ones suited for medium sized game like feral goats or pigs. By the way I don't enjoy shooting animals for fun whether feral or otherwise. We look at .270 and .30 The 5.56 mm task seem to be suppression at 300mtr's its energy is still the same as the 9 mm at point blanc range. In view of the acceptance of body armor small arms have become ineffective beyond 300mtrs.
  4. Just drive along till they start shooting at you. Not his exact words but it was the sentiment of Patton. 'The Mace' in battle of Normandy. *Spoiler* do exactly this with your Panthers to the Knob. If you have the approach of avoiding the barrage with your halftracks dismount infantry, you lose time, and the Poles will occupy this objective. Patrols which one? Scouting, fighting, listening the choice is ours. Open AFV's should have the same spotting ability as infantry. Look at the experience level first. Light armored AFV's or jeeps, let them travel fast it is their best defense. Modern warfare the Scimitar this excellent vehicle in conjunction with helicopters get you all the intel to kick start your attack. On battalion level dedicate a company to get the intel for the other two companies. Read your situation if you attack you get intel by capturing territory, the other two companies will assault read destroy enemy forces. You can't see a camouflaged enemy the use of combined arms will enable you to find them. Your scouts should be the best troops you have crack and elite have the best spotting abilities.
  5. Suggested games for you in Battle for Normandy. 'CW Evil be to him and Huzzar'. Happy gaming
  6. You have infantry veterans and above for spotting on overwatch they spot quicker as the game reflects their experience units with binoculars with short cover arcs. Now your AFV's use their armament for a recon by fire. Fast move and plot fire from waypoints shoot and scoot and end up with your AFV finding cover. Don't take my word for it but test and test some more. QB H&H against yourself on difficulty scenario author test. Happy gaming.
  7. @Artkin it is important we enjoy the game. Players on RTS on recruit all on camera four. If they enjoy their click fest good luck on them. Took a while to get used to it but I enjoy my little on the site rules.
  8. You like realism? That's the way it is and on Iron. Platoon HQ has a notepad in RL we have camera position five. See how much graphic design a topographic map has, you must learn how to read it. Here we have people who criticize the graphics it is the last of my concerns. Better let a squad enter a house through the first-floor window. When you go on hide in a house assume the troops are in the cellar. The effect like they are hiding in a foxhole.
  9. Knock them all down is the beginning of the Aachen Campaign in FB and a few doors don't work. 'Knock them all down was the solution.'
  10. Play on Camera Position 1 with an FPS Mode. Want Camera Position 4 send up a drone or have a spotting plane for WW2. Company HQ and above have 'Charts' to keep track of the troops. All with cinematic quality. For me I am happy enough the way it is, that means morale, leadership, experience. The ballistics from 9mm to 155mm calculated.
  11. How many troops in the halftrack? A scout-team of two possibly won't split up to both weapons. If the halftrack crew has a gunner, I would imagine if you clicked open mode on the halftrack the TacAI would do the right thing. The right thing is very broad. A light fire mission on a Sherman for example doesn't mean the crew will operate the 0.50 Cal on the turret.
  12. Disperse and find cover to the best of your ability.
  13. People are the best judge for themselves. If you have access to a firing range, see how well you do over 300mtrs. Remember your targets don't shoot back. With a pistol with service match at the time only the elite at the time could consistently hit the '10' at the international rapid fire UIT target at 50mtrs. With a longarm I would say you push your limits at 300mtrs. I think in the game CM got it more or less spot on in probabilities. To achieve fire superiority longarms at best suppresses only you need ordnance which explode or with plunging fire by well positioned MG's.
  14. Thermal sights in RL if you can believe the media. An Abrams spotted an T55 which was behind the top of a hill thanks to his thermal sights. The APDSFS went through the cover and blew the turret off. I would like to see a video of this. I don't think everyday objects will be effective.
  15. Nobody is a murderer unless convicted in a court of law. That people get killed is unfortunately incidental in war. But here it is a hobby where we simulate warfare.
  16. Give riding infantry a dismount order before plotting a movement order for the vehicle. The vehicle will move without the infantry. Do this a terrain feature away from a danger area.
  17. Nvidia doesn't have Combat Mission in their list of games. Something for BF to work on.
  18. We don't have a wooden heart. Elvis Presley - Muss i denn zum Städtele hinaus (Wooden Heart) 1960 - YouTube
  19. I did some math's about the matter. The 5.56 mm NATO is pushing it at 400mtrs in the energy department. About as effective as a 9 mm at 25 - 50mtrs. Nobody ever hit by one ever complained it was not powerful enough. With 9 mm there is a difference between 9mm for submachine guns and pistols. Over 500mtrs back to 7.62 NATO. Body armor and kevlar makes a lot of sense against 9 mm and 5.56 mm at longer ranges. It stops the 3.57 magnum at 25mtr which is a little bit more powerful than the 9mm.
  20. Hate him or love him, Montgomery was the father of command and control as we play it in a simpler form. Apart from the Bren and the Sten the squad was very much WW 1. He took the lessons of WW 1 too there were whole mining communities wiped out in that conflict. He didn't fight that war, looked after his troops (The Full Monty) and had the British cabinet looking over his shoulder to finish the war by Christmas 1944. Hollywood and the American press are what people take for the Gospel.
  21. But they had the Churchill infantry tank a bunker on tracks. They should have put in their trucks I should say lorries a bucket load of stens for urban combat. The Lee-Enfield had an adaptor for their hand grenades, so they could lob a grenade inside a building from normal hand grenade range.
  22. In enfilade the MG 42 is the better weapon in defilade the Bren as it is a more accurate weapon. The Bren can function as a normal semi-automatic rifle aided by its bipod. The MG 42 is an all-purpose machinegun and more an area denial weapon. It is really a case of comparing apples and oranges. Grazing fire plunging fire we just can't mention the contrasting functions of a machine-gun. The Vickers was in my view the superior HMG the Bren the superior LMG compared with the MG 42. The MG 42 could function in both roles.
  23. The Sherman and its chassis my favorite system in CM just look at it! It had 75mm, 76.2mm, 17 pounder, 90 mm 105 mm and 155 mm. A dream for the maintenance teams. Radio and optics stabilizer years ahead of its time. Played it, Priests of map with the 105 mm made sure nasty Germans in foxholes were suppressed all arranged through the HQ Sherman tank. Like the Chieftain pointed out four lifting eyes. Enabled it to be shipped to Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Africa and the Far East. World War 2 was over and the Russians looked at the JS2 and JS 3 and the T34. Let's drop the sloped armor on the sides of the T34 and it is a little wider. Now we can fit a 100 mm naval gun in it. That is the system of the cold war the JS 3 in the Sinai was found wanting against Israeli Shermans. Crew comfort was the deciding factor.
  24. I played these games since Beyond Overlord and you find out what works and what doesn't. Hardcover, cover, and concealment is generic. Let the AI decide 90 % of the time eyeballing gives you an idea so does plotting LOS from way points. My point, take a house or building for example. Just one room houses, it gives some protection. Concealment it depends how the algorithm calculates it. A crack or elite enemy will spot you somewhere in the bushes. Play a quick battel on Hotseat against yourself setting, scenario author setting. Test you grazing and plunging fire from the weapons platoon as well as your small arms. Effectiveness of artillery there are no secrets everyone has the same tools.
