  1. You would click at the beginning and at the end. Fast would select the fastest route slow the route which gives the most cover. To travel on roads is mandatory in real life. You leave tracks behind in cross country. For the enemy air force to follow your trail. I lay ambushes on the approach routes not necessary on roads themselves. To lose an AC on a mine is the risk to take.
  2. You click on a road or a road tile, you would click on the beginning of the road and you click at the end or where you want to diverge. A magnetic vector tool will select your path without considering every bend. Somebody is already looking into it btw.
  3. You make a selection based on color just to make a long story short.
  4. After playing with Photoshop since the 1990's I have a good idea of Vectors. Let me say CM is a little behind, we need something like a magnetic vector tool which would make pathfinding a breeze.
  5. The paths we see are pixel based the paths we plot are vectors. The two are always in conflict LOS plotting is also a vector when we think we should be able to hit you get no LOS jumping up. it is a game of probabilities aka rolling the dice.
  6. Snipers 95% spotting 5% shooting. Opportunity targets when they are spotting a 120mm mortar brews up BMP's. I don't really know how much sniping they do when they spot an HQ, I give them a cover-arc in the area. They do a stellar job supporting other FO's.
  7. My 'Sniper' in SF2. Got the credit for 3 AA Shilkas also of 9 enemy combatants. He was more effective than the Leopard 2 in that game. OK if it makes you happy infantry is useless in CM . Infantry is the Alpha and the Omega they scout at the start and flush out the enemy HQ from some pile of rubble at the end of the game.
  8. He lived to a ripe old age. Very good at crossword puzzles. Graviteam Tactics? I installed it and after a week or so got rid of it. It is more a less a tank game. Nice graphics so it appeals to some people.
  9. That one came from a Waffen SS veteran.
  10. The one who shoots first lives longer. It is not rocket science.
  11. Good to hear I gave up in some scenarios in 'Battle for Normandy' The worst one Hobart's Funnies. Set up a shambles spent hours to make sense of the troops available. Examples: Vicker's are deployed in the Universal Carriers if you take them out but change your mind you can't put them in the Universal carrier in the deployed state. Trucks you better find the drivers first if you plan to use them. Without the driver your squad becomes crew, and you can't dismount them. Naturally when you start the game the AI starts with an Artillery Strike in the set-up zones. I wonder how the Beta Testers managed to miss all these issues. Counter Attack at Son only part of the German squad at times crosses the little footbridge 1 or 2 stay stubbornly on the wrong side of the Dommel river. At least I figured that one out. Pleasantly surprised with SF2 didn't find any issues.
  12. I installed the game and got rid of it soon afterwards. Infantry in Graviteam is robotic, no fear, skill levels or motivation. You didn't say with which game you had problems. I spent some time practical shooting and service type shooting. From the street the average person has a problem hitting a dinner plate at 50mtrs. After a month or so he gets consistent. Note these are under ideal conditions and no stress involved. In the game grenades or anything which says bang do most of the killing. With MG's you must carefully select your position for plunging or grazing fire. Get it wrong you blast away for nothing. In modern warfare rifles have now 1X1.25 magnification scopes. You really need training with them before you're better off than with Iron Sights. Under stress you tend to use your weapon in shotgun fashion, reason they seem to be effective.
  13. I never handled a Javelin in my life. But the Golden Rule still applies. If you can hit the enemy the enemy can hit, you too. The Javelin's operator must be easy to spot. The moment you fire one (In the Game) you go to the enemy's position replay and you see for yourself. Before you fire have an exit tactic it applies for anything.
  14. @WhiteWolf65 they can obliterate all your units in the set-up zone in the beginning of a game. Some scenario designers are fond of having a barrage on units who can't move anywhere. They forget the customer has the last word or they play their games or not. In RL outside your 600mtr by 1000mtr there is a lot more real estate.
  15. I don't have CMBS I understand the Russian forces have ordnance comparable with western forces. Whether you play WW2 or 21st century I would employ as much fire power as possible. Basically, SMEAC and METT-TC. Situation yours and the enemy, Execution Who, What Where. Administration and Logistics. Control and Communications. Always look at METT-TC. In the 21st century games I used MBT as if it were WW2 tanks. It is an entirely different beast. Only one way to drive them full speed they shoot more accurate at 3km than a WW2 tank standing still at 500mtrs.
  16. My MBT's like Abrams, Challenger or Leopard 2 use smoke. Your MBT's can shoot through smoke lots of Syrian armor can't. Artillery has smoke. The fun started under Patton he used to engage Tigers with smoke (White Phosphor) and HE. I think you like to make the Jav team your heroes. Enemy MBT's react on your armor first that is the time to employ your Javelins. Combined arms are the key and make sure your C2 is working.
  17. I won't lose any sleep over it. Still have enough games to play
  18. You can smoke before he fires if it is available, the unit has thermal sights. Same with NATO MBT's they have thermal sights. Page 62 of the Base Game manual. The Javelin is equipped with an infrared imaging (I2R) system. Combined arms is the answer. Smother the AO with smoke once your intel is complete. NATO units can look through smoke.
  19. You can throw smoke to launch the missile. It has thermal sights, and you can look through it. 15sec you can make it 15, 30 or 45 seconds.
  20. I would say yes, Deploy and Pack up you look at 15 sec each way. He has a thermal sight so popping some smoke maybe an idea. It is I see an opportunity weapon. I give vital units 45 sec pause and let them make their move in the last 15 sec of a turn. One square on hunt usually does the trick.
  21. The way it is going I am quickly losing interest in Fire and Rubble. I still play RT with engine3 wanted to update and was waiting for Fire and Rubble. Never mind SF2, FB, Battle for Normandy is enough for the time being. Feel sorry for the people who already put their hard-earned cash down.
  22. You're not alone. To counter this some of your forces could stay off map and let them enter the AO as reinforcements at the time of your choosing. To put a battalion size formation on an area the size of a couple of soccer stadiums is ludicrous. Dear scenario editors I appreciate your efforts, but I just don't play such scenarios.
  23. It is the nemesis of all ATGMs TOW, MILAN, SAGGERS to name a few. They require the operator to stay with their weapon. Javelin is way ahead in comparison. ATG's in WW2 they were on borrowed time once they fired, 57 mm was about the mobility limit. I pointed out for a new game engine you should have access to the emergency buttons during a turn. But you just can't sprint while carrying a Javelin launcher and a spare missile.
  24. I would call them the security element of a formation. Responsibilities a patrolling program and intel gathering.
  25. It comes down to tactics. A Javelin was not meant to 'shoot and scoot' it takes about 15 seconds to aim and lock on target then up it goes and says: "Here I am". If you can lock on to something, something else can lock on you. I have no personal experience with the Javelin and see it as an expensive precision mortar. Once it is off and flying it is up to the operator to get out of the situation. That is also basic he should think of his tactical deployment before. You can shoot from buildings and foxholes with this weapon distance 1km-3km. Looks a lot better to shoot from hard cover. The tank sees a block of apartments a mile away but is very unlikely to spot the operator. Another idea use it to support your own armor during a melee. Like they say in Australia on its own they stand out like dog balls.
