  1. It was the explanation in from Barbarossa to Berlin if I remember correctly. For the sake of realism, you can agree on house rules. Only preplanned strikes permitted or strikes by Company HQ or higher. You could use flares to stop a preplanned strike to go ahead. Additional house rules are the way to go if you and your opponent agree.
  2. I will have a look at CW and try out a Demo first. I meant Combat Mission is 'Utopian' compared to tabletop wargaming. The people here seem to underestimate the L7 105 mm NATO gun. At least till 1972 it could take on anything the Soviets could throw at it. The Sagger ATGM outranged the M60 and Centurions by 1 km and their armor had become obsolete.
  3. It is generic the Eastern Front had more field telephones operating or they work with flares. We see something similar with commonwealth AT units. Grenades and two SMLE rifles but are AT teams. Sure enough they knocked out halftracks at over 25 mtrs.
  4. I still remember the Netherlands of the 50' and 60's. Eastern front was popular because we didn't like either side. You were not biased when you played either German or Russian with your 'Airfix' army. Besides you saw it at once what a brilliant design the Russian T34 was compared with the Churchill Tank. The latter was a pest to assemble with the little wheels. And the T34 came with 2 turrets the 76mm and 85mm. Now I am retired I am right back to my early years. All of them guys complaining this game is Utopian. No models to paint or assemble and try to play that every mm is a mtr with 1:72 models. You just can't make some people happy.
  5. Disappointing I am looking forward to Fire and Rubble. For us 70-plussers WW 2 was still recent history.
  6. @Bil Hardenberger Knight is related to the Dutch word Knecht. In modern Dutch it means servant but in the old days a servant to a King or a Bishop too. Ritter (German) and Ridder (Dutch) are related to Rider in English, but it means Knight in both languages. The meaning of words are shifting too over the centuries.
  7. I agree with your comment, @Erwin I would like to be able to do something like that thank you. @Thewood1 I achieve this by setting my fire on continues at several waypoints during a turn. The trick is not to stop in the open with 30 or more seconds to go in a turn. Yes, I agree to adopt a standard tactical procedure in the move command structure. Thanks for your input.
  8. Absolutely great a really professional job.
  9. @Dr.Fusselpulli thanks for your input. Yes, the meaning of words are shifting. Fechten is vechten in Dutch and to fight in English. Here the meaning is still much the same. Once again thank you and happy gaming.
  10. We all do but it comes with a caveat. Don't compromise the game as a tactical simulator. I like to see rooms in buildings and have sub-terranean scenarios. As far as spotting goes it is subjective. You only have a positive LOS once you see an Identified Icon and even then, not always. The average Gaming PC 16 G RAM 1 TB SSD hard drive. It is my set up and I don't have issues. Here is a still of the Army University Site We have a long way to go yet. Army University Press - YouTube
  11. Yes, they could seriously disrupt transport, ports, and airports. Don't forget Market Garden Telcom was made available for the allies (They declined) The railway workers went on strike and deprived supplies to the Germans. The same Unions were there at the Cold War. Their politics? On the Right Social Democrats on the left Pacificist Socialist and Communist. To keep them quiet was politics of the welfare state. Translated in excellent wages and conditions. It is all scenarios why the USSR could have occupied Western Europe.
  12. Yes, the 1940 scenario. Nobody could have predicted that by Christmas 1941 Hitler would be at war with the USA with the USSR as allies. It left the West European governments with egg on their faces. History proved them wrong. The thinking behind my reasoning. The scenario of permit the Finlandization of Western Europe otherwise millions would perish in a nuclear holocaust. This will trigger resistance by a highly skilled and motivated resistance movement.
  13. I agree we will be pulled up by @Bil Hardenberger for going off topic. I think his Cold War scenario makes a nice game but not exactly based on historical fact. Communist Parties were seen as legitimate political movements in Western Europe. In the 60's US politics were criticized and the conscription was loathed at least in Amsterdam. Sentiments were much the same in Eastern Europe I learned here. They didn't like the USSR. My scenario would be an Urban Vietnam in Europe and supported by special forces.
  14. Here we go I left the Netherlands in the 60's and noticed the language had changed. Peron 3 had become Spoor 3 and more minor changes like that. I did German here as a mature age student, to get points for matriculation. You couldn't select your native language, so I selected German. I was not the only one ex Europeans did much better than English speaking students. That is already 35 years ago.
  15. Oberkommando could be translated as High Command OKW translates as The High Command of the Armed Forces. OKH as the High Command of the Land forces. We really need to consult a native speaker here. The German language has the characteristic of making new words of existing words. Bundeswehr didn't exist in WW 2. WW 2 had the Reichstag, and the government of West Germany was called the Bundestag. So, I translated the Bundeswehr as the Armed forces of the German federation.
  16. Wehr etymology is related to the English word war. Heer is the land forces of the German army. Bundeswehr could be translated as the Army of the German Federation. My German is not anymore of what it used to be.
  17. Yes, an early wargame if not the first was 'Chess'. It is still a hard act to follow. The Javelin at best is the Queen but it can be taken out.
  18. Fire and Rubble has my priority. To continue CM has 2 customer bases now. People who like to play RTS on lower settings and WeGo on higher setting and huge maps which are not huge enough. There is also a communication problem with its customers. Instructions in the PDF documents are for me at last insufficient. I like more resources for the Editor. It may be easy for some but not for me. Also, Internet Play, PBEM players like at present small scenarios and agree on certain house rules in regards FOW. A small PBEM game can easy last a month. You also need a Dropbox account with some plug ins to make it work. Graphics you may have noticed are the least of my concerns. I am just another customer. Regards.
  19. @SgtHatred I see it as a High-Tech Chess game. You see all the squares and all the Chessmen. But each one has a role. Even the Queen has no LOS but the Knight has and can fork the King and the Castle. Example in the game. MG42 in a foxhole, your platoon hast the task to take him out. And applies METT-TC. The platoon can suppress the enemy but once it has been suppressed only one weapon can take it out. You see the foxhole and the game displays the Icon HMG42. You must find the sweet spot for the 60 mm mortar. The trajectory of the 60 mm is its strength and the direct firepower of the MG42 has now becomes it weakness. The 60 mm can lob grenades right in the foxhole and is reasonably safe. I see the terrain features in CM generic like the buildings the AI has the last word. Naturally, I like realistic graphics too. The games which do absolutely lack the realism of CM. Experienced Game Editors (I am not one of them) Struggle with maps of 4km x 4km in Urban Settings. Which is a challenge effective range of tanks being 5 km. I rather have the present graphics than just another computer game. Happy gaming.
  20. True if you scan over the warning it says, "don't share personal details." Once you sign in it goes.
  21. The US and the UK with financial backing finances the secret armies of Europe, they fight IRA style. On the outside a Lukewarm War. Behind it all a deadly cat and mouse game takes place. The Soviet Union financially is facing ruin as years go by. The European population is harder to control by the day. The day of the European Secret Armies highly skilled and motivated working in concert with US and British Special forces.
  22. Yes, it is a priority target its strength is the fire and forget system. All this stuff I am not too familiar with. In our lifetime a revolution took place in warfare. The modern western soldier is a highly trained skilled individual. The days of cannon fodder is over. In its extreme the man kiss his wife in the morning goes to the city. Once at work he launches a drone and kills his enemy from 20000 miles away. Soon drones will be some fly on the wall.
  23. Don't be the Prima Donna and be part of the orchestra. Like a sniper when there are plenty of explosions around is the time to strike. Look at the Javelin every spotter can see where it comes from. Any radar system can see where it originated from. But during a melee it becomes a lot harder.
  24. Quoting Murphy: If something can go wrong it usually does. The other AFV could have a counter device such as. Russia's Lethal T-90 Tank vs. the Javelin Missile: Who Wins? | The National Interest
  25. It is very possible that only a member of the crew spots the enemy, but the gunner doesn't. Disregard what you see on the screen (For 90%) and the game becomes more enjoyable. Road to Nijmegen first game I got frustrated. Undeployed the MG could engage but when you deployed the MG you couldn't. The circumstances had changed the people who could engaged were armed with the M1 Carbine the MG on the Tripod couldn't. I don't know exactly how the algorithms of the game work, somehow, I trust it. The 75 mm of the Sherman was often preferred over the 76 mm Sherman. The LOF and HE was more effective in dealing with German AT guns. The game reflects this too. We look at the screen from an easy chair and a drink and some nibbles. In the game some software writer tries to include some human factors too. Like the AT gunner you may be happy to sacrifice him for a ISII tank in real virtual life the man prefers to hide away in his foxhole. A million mouse clicks won't change it.
