Currently reading the book, authored by Jake Tapper.  Story of COP Keating.  Very good read.  My son spent 15 miserable months in that AOR with the 173rd, a year prior to the main event.  We were just discussing the book a couple nights ago and he told a story of sitting atop a cold windswept mountain watching the COP get pounded with mortars. Said they were only a short trek away as the crow flies, but given the terrain it would've taken them hours to reach it.  Ironically, he found himself in nearly the same situation a short time later when on what was supposed to be his last few nights in country, he and 18 members of his platoon were attacked on a remote OP by 100+ Taliban in the early morning hours under the cover of fog. Son said it was the longest hour he could ever imagine.  His squad leader was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his actions that day....and I thank him silently every night before going to bed for bringing my boy home.

Well Shock Force 2 - NATO features Germans. And BLU vs. RED is pretty much seal clubbing.

I'm still waiting for a response from Imperial Grunt to reply back. If I don't hear from him, I will start to fix the campaign scenarios and get it posted by end of next week.

If you play WW2 titles call 'em British, Commonwealth, or Limeys. If you play modern titles then call 'em Brits if you must.
In the meantime I'm off to help the rozzers track down the scum who stole my napper from outside the London Bridge Museum last night.

These are really good man I love how they are short enough to digest in one sitting and super clear about the context of the engagements in the scenario.

Watching TV made stuff is always going to distort your view.  Real life stuff is far less interesting from an action orientation than what gets portrayed on the screen.  Winter's primary role in this action was to organize the teams, plan the attack and keep his men moving forward.  Taking up a rifle and firing it was the least important thing he did that day.  Did he do it, sure.  He kind of had to as part of the reason that attack is talked about so much is it was a ridiculously small force  to accomplish the mission and only succeeded because of the training, elan and leadership of the unit.  To use that as a general use case in a discussion is like saying I got hit by a screw that fell off of Skylab to show how dangerous the space program is.
Regarding command delays.  Any player is free to include them in their own play style.  I actually do it from time to time to create more of a story playing than just gaming it.  It can certainly be fun.  When doing that I also look at the soft factors to decide how long it might take that specific commander to formulate and issue orders and make sure there are C2 links, can the commander meet face to face with sub commanders, do I have runners etc.  Doing that though means every scenario you play then should probably be kicked out to the full 4 hours so you don't get frustrated only playing 50% or less of the scenario.  On the other hand I am with IanL on this.  I absolutely do not want to see them back in the game.

Also a nonspecific tip that helped me get better at combat mission, after I finish a scenario I think back and try to pick out what mistakes I made so that I am aware of what I am doing wrong. It really helped me think more tactically, and  get rid of bad habits from other RTS games I played. e.g. moving men up without recon or support.

I personally really enjoyed the Marines campaign especially the first couple of missions, which are a naval landing, I also am a huge fan of the marines APC( I forgot what it's called). The thing I enjoyed most about playing all the DLC in shock force one is that they painted a picture of the fictional large scale operation going on in the game. I remember when I first played the game I would look through and find the Dates of each of the missions in the campaign and play through in chronological order(this was a huge hassle) . I also like playing as the NATO forces because they all used Leopards which I think is a really awesome tank.
