Maybe they can propose a counteroffer that would involve turning over all their Leo tanks to Ukraine.

Seems like Erdogan‘s actions back up his most recent words as well. The commanders of the Azov Regiment that went into captivity at Mariupol last year have been allowed to return to Ukraine from their Turkish exile.

pintere reacted to George MC in Tank Tactical Problem Series (German)
    EDIT
Thanks to @Monty's Mighty Moustache who picked up a briefing error in TTP No2. This has been amended and the attached zip file below has the updated file.
This series of three missions is very loosely based on several of the ‘Tank Battle Problems’ detailed in the Nafziger publication ‘the German Tank Platoon in WWII: Its Training and Employment in battle’.
Whilst the series of ‘problems’ outlined in the book appear to be pre/early war I have updated the fundamental concepts to a later period in the war i.e. 1944.
The key intent of these tank tactical problems is to give the player new to using German armour an opportunity to use them in a more doctrinally ‘correct’ manner within the limitations of the Combat Mission game engine.
This series complements the German halftrack (SPW)/panzergrenadier training lessons in the CMRT Battlepack 1 where the main focus is on using SPW in Combat Mission.
For the tactical problem series the German player uses Panzer IVs. This tank was used in significant numbers during the war and though starting to become outclassed by 1944 by the Soviet T-34/85 was still a significant part of the tank strength of most panzer divisions. Though Panthers were slowly starting to form the main panzer strength in the panzer regiments. The player cannot rely on superior armour/armament to bully through this series as the Panzer IV’s armour is comparatively speaking, inadequate.
All the missions are best played as German Vs Soviet AI.
There are NO German AI plan.
Each tactical problem has a ‘Tactical Top Tips’ at the end of each briefing (under ‘notes’) which may help the player new to using tanks in Combat Mission get the most out of them.

Plan is when done to convert them to Soviet versions so players can contrast.

If you get a chance to give em a whirl I'd appreciate any and all feedback thank you.

pintere reacted to George MC in German Small Unit Armored Tactics on the Eastern Front in 1944: Part 1
This is Part 1 of a short series giving a summary and overview of the tactical fundamentals and principles behind WWII German and Soviet armoured unit tactical drills and combat formations commonly used in 1944 using examples from Combat Mission Red Thunder to illustrate key points.
Part 1: What is the difference between formations, drills, principles and tactics?
This video defines these terms and may also help the viewer differentiate between a potentially bewildering array of terms and puts them into context with German armoured doctrine.

A clip has been making the rounds of a Russian being very visibly hurled into the air after his tank blew up. Based on the video it looks like he was riding on the tank just in front of the turret on the right hand side. Then, after the tank hit a mine (??) he was flung into the air before landing about 100 metres away.

Couldn't NATO put some sort of surveillance aircraft over theBlack sea that would be able to spot helicopters and send the data around? I quite like the idea of theRussian choppers being spotted from one side, and hit by long range SAMs from the other.

All the kill-mame-death-destruction video's haunt me. And not just from this war.
    (Overly-Sensitive kinda guy, probably.)
But the Ukrainians in the minefield-video struck me most because of the unbelievable courage those guys showed. Courage in a trench or fierce firefight can be an instinctive thing, because there is hardly time to really think about what is happening, until it's over.
But these guys in that minefield knew what was around them. And the ones that survived the first explosions, plus the ones that later arrived in the other Bradley, knew very well how utterly dangerous it was to try and get the wounded out.
But they went. And when those guys blew up in front of their eyes, the next guys never gave up and stepped on that mine-infested soil. WHILE THEY KNEW!!!
I wonder if I have ever seen more courageous people in this whole ****ty war.

Maybe Ukraine would be better off launching their summer offensive in Luhansk this year, with the aim of capturing Starobilsk. Though it wouldn’t be as decisive as reaching the Sea of Azov, they’d have far fewer minefields to contend with. If it really is the case that Ukraine is at a critical disadvantage without western jets, then it might be worth reconsidering their strategy so that they can still score a major victory with a lower likelihood of failure. This ought to keep the western supply of arms flowing too.
Then, next summer, they can have another crack at the south with higher quality ground and air forces.

A wee something I put together.
This video showcases content from the Combat Mission Red Thunder Battlepack 1 released by Battlefront.com.
It's a brief overview of each scenario, what it's about and the main intent; it also covers the campaigns (including a brief summary of the main campaign branches).
There are NO spoilers in the video chapters.

Huh? The frontline hasnt even reached the most outer city properly and the flanks are Russian held.
Any fighting inside the city will move at the same pace, probably even slower, than Wagners assault and the flanks are Verdun/Somme recreations, no breakthroughts to be had there its a battle for every meter and will remain so.
That front area is just a pressure point to keep Russian units tied in a place they cannot retreat/dilute from

Some words about survivability of modern western armor.
Other words of soldier of 47th mech.brigade: "If we didn't have it [western armor], our brigade would no longer exist"
47th brigade has most unpleasant and hard work - to gnaw through most dense defense lines, attracting the enemy on itself. Yes, they lost destroyed and damaged already many vehicles, but this brigade moves steady tree-liine for tree-line through totally mined fields and enemy artillery fire. Any other brigade on Soviet BMPs or even on M113 already would be lost own offensive capabilities.

I’d say that if the Ukrainians still haven’t achieved a breakthrough by September, then we can say the counteroffensive probably fell short of its main objective.

Interview with gen. Zaluzhny. Lot of bitterness on his side, understandeable in this situation.
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/06/30/valery-zaluzhny-ukraine-general-interview/
Also, interesting detail that he and Milley cooperate so closely- I think it is first time he admitts that; up to now, Ukrainian High Command rather officially distanced itself from direct US connections.
