If you select the mortar team, you can only fire within your LOS (direct fire). If you want to use indirect fire, as stated by @Codreanu, you need to direct the fire using the HQ unit.

You need to select the HQ, not the mortar team.

Thank you!  That helps me visualize much better.  I couldn't imagine there being 6' deep trenches along the roadways.
Also, ha!  I don't think I'll ever be able to call them anything else now.  Thanks!

Some of them should look more like this. Not as deep as they appear in game. And with enough greenery for the Panzerknacker teams to hide in so that they could take out the Shermans. Which were not knocked out by AT Guns despite what Hollywood would have us believe.

A bridge, even a small one, needs more explosives than one man can carry. More some time is necessary to plant the charges and rigged them. That was not envisaged, in the scenario, since in  CMFB bridges can not be blow up.  The message, therefore comes to warn that the bridge is still up and to be prepared to it's use by the attacking forces. That is the way I felt it should be done, making the the scenario. Anyway at the time many units were having just the time to save their life facing a sudden and unexpected strong and wide  attack.

Warts 'n' all reacted to WimO in WimO's 82nd Airborne Campaign fix progress update
When I learned of all the bugs in my 82nd Airborne campaign I decided on a three pronged remedy.
One prong is to examine all of the scenarios and maps that I have ever created and update or fix any issues I find. To do so, I have temporarily removed all of my creations from the repository.  After I have reviewed them and tweaked where necessary, they will be re-uploaded ... all at once.
The second prong is to begin by fixing only five of my campaign scenarios and compile them into a shorter campaign. I did this to create a playable version in less time. The five  scenarios are Manoir Leroux, Angriff der Grenadiere, No Better Place to Die, Saul's Run and Le Motey. These have now been completed and tested as free-standing scenarios but not yet as a campaign. The text files have been rewritten to be more campaign appropriate. A.I. plans have been tweaked and tested with and without player opposition. I am satisfied with the results. The campaign has not yet been tested to determine if the settings for Refit, Repair, Resupply and Rest are set properly to keep the campaign moving forward.
The third prong, is fixing the longer campaign. This is presently in progress but I intend to pause it as of this weekend to test the five scenario short campaign.

Thanks!  Yep, it sure did.  Another round hit about 5m meters behind first, causing him to actually close the top hatch, and then this round dropped right through the soft armor top.  I think it actually detonated on impact but it does say it penetrated.  It looked like the bomb did actually go through the top armor and explode all at once.  Incredibly lucky!

Spoilers if you don't want the info for The Road to Nijmegen, but yeah, my guys had a good showing this day...

Thanks, and yes Indeed!  My jaw dropped and I literally watched the turn about 15 times.  Most surprisingly, the driver made it out and got away!

A great series of pictures. The last one in particular. It is a very rare treat when something like that happens.

The re-worked Road to Nijmegan, mission 2.  Really enjoying this so far.

    Finally, just had to share...
My paratroopers are having that kind of day.  Calling my 81mm arty support down on a line of hedgerows about 650m away, this German AFV takes a lucky round right through the top armor...

Well as a good commander you will of course value your special weapons teams since they have valuable skills and are hard to replace. So, you likely have a standing order that they withdraw to the rear once they are out of ammo so as to not risk loosing them to enemy fire.

It's a side effect of a fix for a worse problem. In an earlier release if you gave a mortar team a target command they would start to aim the mortar but the guys doing nothing would fire away with their small arms. This had a tendency to expose the mortar team's location and was generally viewed as a bad thing(tm). They will fire their small arms on their own but at close distances than normal infantry because the mortar team is tasked only with local defence of the gun.
Moral of the story don't use mortar teams as infantry.

Many thanks Declan.  Yes the latest all in one installer for CMBN has the old game engine 4 manual, dating back to 2016.

Given that you come from the land that gave us The Wurzels, perhaps comedy is best left alone.

But note that there are a lot more scenarios, maps, and campaigns on this website and thefewgoodmen.com/tsd3, and also floating around (Much is old content from battlefront.com's old repository that eventually shut down).

I am having a very bad time at Ogledow, unlike Dlw's original post here.  I decided to go on the offensive right away w 5 tigers and infantry support.  One tiger picked sniped by something but I kept going.  Ran into a buzz saw of JS2 tanks.  Was all in my favor at first then things started going very, very badly.  Stupid fog putting RU tanks into point blank range.
Tigers leave town on a hunting mission.  Well, the ones that actually work left town.

Everything OK so far, had a quick fight w RU forces in copse of trees but only one casualty on my side.
    https://imgur.com/PHsHw

And now we've got a fight:  JS2 shows up.

and dies, HA take that GeorgeMC-ovich!

Burn, baby, burn.  I was feeling pretty good at this point.

Three JS2 down, no loss on my side.  Victory for my tigers, though the close range is terrifying.

A few minutes later..... and I've lost three of my 5 tigers.  At least they died w sword in hand and will go to tank valhalla, unlike all the ones that simply broke down.

And the fight goes on.  I do not think tiger2s were made for this kind of close up fighting.  All my advantages are gone due to fog, but won this duel at 50m.  Is this all the JS2s??  Are there more?  There was one on my left in some trees earlier but I hit him though not a kill.  Is his gun damaged?

So I have managed to wreck a bunch of tigers, lose some infantry, and still don't have the objective.  This aint good.  What else is hiding back there in the fog???

Well, WimO's trying to put them all together into a campaign, so no H2H here..
Anyway WimO is too modest. I liked his campaign very much, even though some debugging was required.
I'm disappointed that Levy stands alone at Cauquigny disappeared, this was my preferred scenario of the set, and I don't think it need that much adjustments to be near-perfect!
Good luck for the campaign compiling!

Here I am temporarily resurfacing to give an update about the status of WimO's 82nd Airborne Campaign debugging.\
After PEB14's helpful feedback I had another look at the scenarios commented on and had an eye-opening shock. In come cases AI timings had gone off the rails due to having reduced scenario time lines without adjusting AI. In others I forgot to give AI orders. Some scenarios suffered from reloading the core units file during develpment for one side and then forgetting that it also reloaded for he other side. Overall there were a lot of screw-ups. I think the project was overwhelming for my declining faculties.
So, here's the situation today. I withdrew into my computer man-cave and set about full-time debugging. I decided to create a smaller 5 scenario version of the campaign as a starting point. At this point the following five scenarios have been reworked, debugged, repeatedly tested and confirmed to work satisfactorily when free-standing. To me 'satisfactorily' means that you can win or lose (usually the former).
Manoir Leroux, Angriff der Grenadiere, No Better Place to Die, Saul's Run and Le Motey.
Today I will compile them into a campaign and begin the multitude of play tests required to determine what I feel are the most appropriate settings for Refit, Repair, Resupply and Rest between scenarios. That will take some time.
So now ... I'm going to disappear again for a while.
