  1. I am having a problem with the scenario editor mapping section. When I am working on my map, and I click one of the objects, for example, modular buildings, I am not seeing all of them in the space below the objects. The grey space is 2/3 grey with no objects, and the bottom third of the grey area displays some of the objects (in this case, half of 6, 7, and 8 story). I tried to paste a photo of the screenshot here but it won't let me. Anyone know how to fix my problem? I am using a Mac
  2. Totally agree...I read them twice, although "Ortona" is the key for this campaign. Zuehlke is quite popular in Canada. I didn't know he had an international following!
  3. thanks guys...I am a youtube user so I will be checking these videos out!
  4. Bud_B: I am not new to CMBN but I am to scenario design. I am looking forward to it George: Thanks for that! Now I need a plan .....
  5. I am keeping my eye on this one Thanks for your work
  6. Bud_B - hey fellow canuck, thanks for the info! I feel a little embarrassed since I didn't even notice the Sherriff of Osterbeek file in my downloads! Cheers! George - I was reading the summary of your manual production in the repository last night. I had noticed it was designed originally for CMSF but that it works for CMBN as well. Would you say that with version 3.11 it is still a valuable tool? Thanks!
  7. Could one of you kind gentlemen please point me in the direction of the best scenario design resources for CMBN? I'm looking for a simple "how to" for my first crack at it. Thank you kindly in advance!
  8. Wow. In the late 1970s I purchased Squad Leader. As a mid-aged teen, this game was initially way over my head compared to other games at this time (and ASL stepped it up even further). But my buddies and I kept at it and soon we had it down pat. I remember the first three Stalingrad scenario's with #3 combining the previous two into one large battle for the factories. And like so many other CMBN players, this was my start line. I always imagined the board game making the leap to the computer but wasn't sure if it was possible....but here we have it RIP John, you influenced my life and career choice (infantry)
  9. Wow, great models db_zero! I remember modelling as a teenager in the 1970's. Almost always WW2 tanks/APCs. I wanted to make the next step to dioramas, but I never got around to it. Maybe this is something I should get back into, but I have so many more other hobbies on the go now!
  10. On a purely historical note, I just finished reading a passage from Mark Zuehlke's book, "Forgotten Victory" that covers the Canadian campaign against the Fallschirmjager and other units on Germany's border in Feb 1945. A Major Gordon Brown of the Regina Rifles regiment had fought against the 12th SS in Normandy and was now involved in battles against the Fallschirmjager. He compared/contrasted the two as follows: "They (Fallschirmjager) were probably the best troops we had faced, and they were now fighting in defence of their homeland. They were not the wild-eyed Nazis like the SS back in France, but brighter and just as dedicated."
  11. I really enjoyed this battle. I played as the defending Germans against a real opponent. Lots of juggling, varied equipment, and good times
  12. Here is something I have noticed. During the "Breaking the Panzers" battle I was playing the Germans and I had several HMGs deployed. A number of universal/bren gun carriers appeared at ranges between 300-500 meters. I ordered my HMGs to engage them but they wouldn't. This continued to occur throughout the duration of the battle. I tried to "trick" my gunners by ordering area fire in front of the carriers, hoping that rounds would strike them. Of course this isn't nearly as effective as sustained targetted bursts. Here is the unusual thing. The MGs inherent within the German squads would engage them! What's going on? Has anyone else noticed this?
  13. I am currently playing this battle with a friend of mine. It is easily the bloodiest battle I have played in CMx2. The reason for this is that the Germans are basically forced down two bowling lanes (due to the extreme amount of bocage placement without gaps and initial engineer support) and the Allied player has 5 x TRPs to bring almost instant death and destruction onto the limited German routes of advance. Bloody indeed.
  14. Not bad Verg! Any more movie ending options out there?
  15. OK I just saw "Fury" and I really enjoyed it...until the dumba$$ John Wayne finale. For the film producers: this isn't the 1960's anymore - we, as an audience, don't need to be treated like idiots. Even the civilians around me were calling "bullsh#t" lol So....FURY hits the AT mine and then Norman the clerk reports there are 300 SS infantry approaching (very slowly I might add...the crew managed to have a meeting, burn some bodies, and drink a bottle of liquor before they even arrived) Option 1: Brad says, "OK guys, I got you this far and the war is almost over...let's high tail it out of here or this is suicide." Movie ends...the boys are victors and also very intelligent and live to be ripe old grandpas. Option 2: Brad says, "I'm staying to fight...who is gonna join me?" The crew plead like they did, and then the gunner stares into him in disbelief (like he did) and says, "Sarge, you are a dumba$$. We made it from North Africa to here. The war will end soon. We have an immobilised Ronson and we are going to defeat 300 SS soldiers and live to tell about it? You will have failed your personal mission to protect us." Brad says, "Gee, what the hell was I thinking! Let's get outta here!" Movie ends...the boys are victors and also very intelligent and live to be ripe old grandpas. Option 3: the beyond stupid ending..at least the German sniper got it right...almost. Movie ends...the boys are dead (exception: the clerk) and they don't live to be grandpas. That being said, I thought the troop engagement with the Tiger was very entertaining, as was the attack against the ATG's in the woodline. If only a better ending...damn. Maybe next time!
  16. Thanks c3k for the answer within the game rules. I guess that serviceable panzer is in fact totally useless now. Unfortunately, I don't agree with this game rule. Maybe that is something for future versions to address and amend if there is a willingness to do so.
  17. c3K - when you say "particular" vehicle do you mean the one they entered the battle in, or that particular type of vehicle? Thanks
  18. In a recent battle, I had a panzer crew panic and abandon a perfectly serviceable MkIV. The crew was killed trying to escape. If another crew is available (ie their panzer was slain and they survived) could they climb in the still serviceable MkIV that is not their own? If they can, is there a distinction placed on the type of tank? (ie. could a MkIV crew operate a Panther?)
  19. Very cool! Imagine if that Tiger had a single platoon of infantry for support...maybe a different story!
  20. Scipio - so what you're saying is that some people are idiots. No problem, I am proud to say I would never do that!
  21. The NA Theatre is high on my personal list. Of course you could also throw the Crete campaign into the mix as well as a "what if" invasion of Malta. Bring it on!
  22. I have read this extensive thread and I especially enjoyed Erwin's comments. I recently just caught up last week to 3.0 for my Mac, and suddenly it's 3.10 now. Sigh. Here we go again. I just shake my head. I love the addition of the flame vehicles, don't get me wrong, but I believe they will just collect the proverbial "dust" on my HD for a very long time since there are no scenarios for their use. My decision is to wait and see. Probably more waiting than seeing. This is a wonderful game and I am truly thankful to the developers for its existence. But it doesn't mean I have to agree with everything either. Cheers
