Congratulations to @Free Whisky, @Lethaface, and gfs26. Also props to @MeatEtr!
I can thank @Free Whisky, with an absolutely devastating 2nd round, for my 5th place finish.

What are those 3 plates that stick out on each side of some Soviet tanks? Are they to protect infantry at all?
-
In Combat Mission, if infantry advances behind armor (like a bmp), does it get cover from the vehicle's armor?

anyone want a CW PBEM?
I'm up for a CMCW game. Just PM me.

These US troops popping up so close to the Soviets. It's a slaughter.

Um...Russian nukes don't evaporate east of the Ural mountains.
Can't China support a coup in one of the Russian states and take over that way?
-
With Russia focused on Ukraine, why is this not a thing:
China should be looking North, not towards Taiwan. Next Combat Mission may want to include this possiblity.

If you check the scorings you will see that I received 1705 points for round two while you 9611 for a game that not only you did not play but according to your words you contributed to spoiling it.
So basically, I was punished because you and I quote from your private message that you ve sent me :
''I sent an email to slitherine Uk support.
I was in a hotel this week that had a wifi connection that was always booting me off and requiring me to log in again via web browser. I attempted multiple times to open this turn and multiple downloads is considered ‘cheating’. I see some posts on the slithering forum about this.
So, I do believe that side of the mirror has been closed for ‘cheating’ and you will be awarded all my points.
I was not cheating and I just wanted to play some combat mission. I could care less about the score or trying to win this tournament. ''
Off course, that happened only in your game as the Americans as we progressed normally to the other.
@BFCElvis Might this is the reason for the odd things occurring?
Ah! That sucks for both of you, but especially you, @cargol. I'm sorry. Hopefully they can track it down and fix it.

I checked the rankings and I saw that my opponent in 2nd battle got some 9000 points for the battle in which we did not play. I posted about it earlier on. I think that this tourney thingie is more like a farce. Such a shame.
We just need to be patient, keep reporting bugs and let them fix 'em, one at a time. Having to work with a third party is prolly quite difficult.

And off we go!

I was wondering why there is no return file for more than one week. And today I loaded CMCW again.
Crap! My opponent has returned his turn a while ago, but I didn't get the email notification.
Whew. My opponent hasn't returned one of my files. It has about 6 minutes left. You had me worried.

I will need at least two weeks to restore my old pc, anyway.
Jackal, you sound like Scotty from Star Trek.
Scotty: "Two weeks! It can'na be done!"
6 hours later...
Scotty: "Warp drive restored!"
Kirk: "Well done Scotty! You're the best engineer in the fleet!"
Spock: "Fascinating..."

When we simulate the current timeframe, it will not be part of Black Sea. The gap of time between the two settings has a major impact on force structure, weapons, and everything else.

Thanks Steve. Appreciate it.

Has this thread already discussed the implications of BFC releasing a Black Sea update based on the events of 2022? I am very curious to hear BFC's thoughts. @BFCElvis @Battlefront.com @Battlefront

In this regard, I am primarily interested in keeping a little bit of distance from the current invasion and the realistic developments of 2017. I think the game should stay historical fiction (again, not ruling out a future title).
I'm really hoping this war will be history soon. At that point BFC will be free to release a CMBS update. Before then its dicey.
Having said that, personally, I would really like a platform that I could use to test out hypothetical scenarios based on current events (but again, that's just me).

I wonder how they detonated it.
I bet when tension was released from the string, it armed the explosive.

As an aside, I started a new related thread that y'all might fun to add to:
-
As we all know, BFC is going to have its hands full adding to the Equipment (TO&E) of the Ukrainian Army (and even to the Russian Army). I think it would be fun to start listing that equipment here. This can be anything from a handheld firearm, drone, or SAM to an Abrams Tank or F-16 Fighter. Please include as much information as you can and a picture of the item if you have one. e.g.
- Image:
- Name:
- Model:
- Version(s):
-
Description:
- Weapon Subsystems: (if any)
- Ordinance:
- Date of introduction: (to the month)
- Links to Equipment "Wiki":
What other attributes should we list that would be helpful for BFC as a resource? I'll add 'em.
If someone makes an error, please correct it diplomatically.
This is going to be fun!

I had 4 TOWs in a row get defeated. 2 by trees and 2 just bounced off their frontal armor.
-
I wonder how hard it would be to match up active players after a time, if their opponents are no shows.

My suggestion is that after the first round in a tournament, the bottom 10-20% of players are cut. Likely those who didn't start or finish their games or those who got beaten badly and probably will have a hard time winning (harsh, I know). Having players, for one reason or another who don't do their part, remain for round two will just make another player angry. In my first round my oppo just played a handful of rounds. Annoying. Never was told why.
That’s a good idea, but it should prolly be just the opponent that doesn’t return the game(s). No need penalizing the victim opponent.

As an aside, I'm a great believer in user generated content. I come here from the Experimentals Team of the Kerbal Space Program (KSP) world and the mods there abound. They have been hugely successful. They are about to release KSP 2 (early access). But with KSP they have allowed much more access for the modders and KSP 2 is supposed to be even easier for the modders to do their thing.
Just a warning though. With that level of modding ability, we would have Combat Mission:Space Lobsters by the end of the year. But CMBS/CMSF2 would also have every vehicle in Jane's on the battlefield too. But... the authenticity may go down a few notches though. And that's a big NoNo for BFC.

@kohlenklau, your work is good enough IMHO to rank with the awesome work of@George MC & @Ithikial_AU. Maybe ask what they did to get onto the team of creators. Since BFC is a small company, they might just like the help an experienced content creator like yourself.
