Has Infantry Been Boosted vs Tanks?
A Canadian Cat replied to db_zero's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
This is interesting please tell me if I am reading this right. Several people explained why the game is the way it is and how to handle your tanks tactically in close quarters with infantry and the response was strange from my point of view. Here is what I think you want: Tanks can go anywhere any time with impunity against simple infantry. You seem to think that AT guns, other tanks and infantry rockets (bazookas and panzer fausts and panzer shreks) are the only things that can threaten tanks. Am I getting it now? We already explained how the game is working and you reject that explanation so that is that I suppose. I'll ask you one other question and perhaps if you think about it you might realize that the game has it close enough to right (hence the term abstraction): Why do you think tankers did not just crash around hell bent through the villages and forests of Europe without having infantry around to cooperate with them? -
Bizarre kill on a MarderIIIM driver-what the?
A Canadian Cat replied to Lt Bull's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
Yeah if the shell did go through and kill the driver with no penetration notice then yeah it would be a bug. A couple of things to check first: Was hit text display on (alt-H)? If so did the round really go in and cause the driver's death directly? What I mean by that is the Marder has an open top so other shrapnel bullets could have done it. Even a near miss from the Sherman shell could have. So, for example this could have happened. The Sherman round missed underneath the Marder (I have seen this before when the shot is low a round can go "between the legs") and explode behind the Marder and the shrapnel from that explosion killed the driver. If you have a look and find that the round really hit and the hit texts is on and you see no notice and there is nothing else going on that could have killed the driver then you could have a bug. Let us know what you find. -
Will CM ever have an operational layer?
A Canadian Cat replied to sandman2575's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
Not sure how much of a pipe dream it really is. Check out this stickied thread from the CMBN forum: http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=110736 -
Peanut Gallery for the AAR, No Bill or Pnzrldr
A Canadian Cat replied to dan/california's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
LOL you are quite possibly correct. But here is the thing, in the WWII titles if I play someone who is free wheeling and running all over I can often make them pay for doing that but not always. Sometimes the get away with it. In modern combat there are so many weapons and so much nasty stuff just a call away but I suspect that I could make them pay for doing that pretty close to *every* time. The learning loop is tighter. Sorry to sound unhumble cause I am certainly no virtuoso or anything. I learned to be careful and move with meaning and purpose by superior players who tough me by shredding me just like I describe countless times. Now our games have slowed down quite a bit because of that learning. -
Battle of the Bulge - Bastogne
A Canadian Cat replied to borg's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Over you initial pain and looking for more eh? BFC have a list of stuff they want to do and they share part of that list with us from time to time. They have said it is on their list more than once but never give a specific time frame. It would be a nice treat I agree. -
Mortar Team - Deployment
A Canadian Cat replied to borg's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
LOL naw too easy and they get mad when you do that. Not to mention that, just from reading the solution, it sounds like the culprit is a corrupt file on the file server. So not really a Mac problem. @borg, I am very glad things worked out for you. -
CMRT_Dusty German Helmet Mod
A Canadian Cat replied to Jorge MC's topic in CM Red Thunder Maps and Mods
Looks good, decisions decisions :-) -
I am having trouble with this cross over thing. In principal I get it but a typical day in Europe when will this happen? For example lets take the temperature this August 1st in Nizhyn: http://www.accuweather.com/en/ua/nizhyn/321998/month/321998?monyr=8/01/2014 High of 33C and a low of 18C. If soldiers are running around at 36C and tanks are driving around with engines running at 50C or even 40C when is the background ever going to be even close to the temperature of either people or vehicles. Guide me in a direction that explains how any IR cross over could happen at all in this environment.

Yikes that is hard to read - where are all those . coming from Ah, thanks for the clarification. I am familiar with that scary little red box. I think I have seen it three times and it always has worked the second time. So far I have just left the name the same and it has worked fine. How often are you seeing it?

Do your self a favour and log a help desk ticket. They have experience, they know exactly what you have ordered. We can keep speculating but that is just going to make this sadness last longer -
Mortar Team - Deployment
A Canadian Cat replied to borg's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I bought the original game and all the bits and pieces along the way so my experience differs from yours because you step in at version 2. One thing is for sure CMBN is getting complex now that there are two updates, three modules, a pack and numerous patches. Yikes. -

Yuck! I am not sure what to do to fix it but I do know who will - http://battlefront.mojohelpdesk.com/ Open a ticket there and the support team will help you. Write it up with your steps as above and link to this thread. One thing I do know is they are really good and they will help you. -
PC for Combat Mission (help)
A Canadian Cat replied to Lacroix's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I bought a new machine in April - I had slightly different requirements - CM was important but I also needed to be able to do heavy photo editing so I spent more then what you are talking about. Then again that was April... Here is the thread where I asked similar questions and got good advice about GPU: http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=110373 What I ended up with was: Core i5-4670, 3.4GHz GTX760 2GB Windows 7 16Gb memory SanDisk Ultra Plus 256Gb SSD drive Western Digital 1 Tb 7200rpm Plus a few other bibs and bobs because I needed to attach firewire devices, read various cards etc. It cost me $1200 ish in Canada. As you well know everything is a compromise. Who wouldn't want an i7 core but I needed a good GPU for running CM and I wanted an SSD drive for overall performance. And I don't need 16Gb for playing CM but when I have Light room running and I am doing some crazy image stacking or pano sticking in Photoshop I am glad to have the 16Gb for sure. My work machine has an i7 core but a less capable graphics card - don't need GPU power for developing software tools for other software developers. CM runs better on my home machine. And by better I mean I can crank the graphics settings to the max on my home machine and happily play the game but have to back off on my other machine to get good camera performance. -

Having mods does *not* interfere with installing, patching or upgrading. Some mods can interfere with the way the game runs though but no harm is done to your install and removing the conflicting mods fixes things. It does not seem to be the case here. Now this is exactly what is going on. Not sure if these always help but here are two articles from the support web site that show the order of installation. This is the one have book marked for reference: http://battlefront.mojohelpdesk.com/help/article/128133 Just saw a link to this one which has more options / choices: http://battlefront.mojohelpdesk.com/help/article/127908 -
That sounds brilliant - looking forward to seeing this.

LOL I was looking the other way and did not see this. That's OK though your PM was very enlightening and answered my question. A much as I would love to say I'll test your campaign I really do not have time to do that right now.

Question about systems like Arena
A Canadian Cat replied to db_zero's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
Edit: oops I clicked on a follow up video that I was referring to not the original video @MikeyD linked. The marketing video is here: That marketing video says that soldiers in proximity "rarely sustain injury". But those explosions don't look like injury would be rare to me. -
Wait, are you saying that if you have a turn that crashes you can fix it by renaming it? Can you be more specific? My I suggest theBlitz as a source of opponents. I admit it is not perfect, I have run into a couple of poor sports but also now have a list of players I play regularly most of whom I have met there.

AVRE reloading and range
A Canadian Cat replied to rocketman's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I cannot find the post and I have not tested reloading myself but I remember reading that it can take between 2 and 4 minutes to reload. If there is a disagreement between the manual and the game I suggest you take the behaviour in the game as correct :-) Even if it is a bug it will be the correct behaviour until it is fixed -
Has Infantry Been Boosted vs Tanks?
A Canadian Cat replied to db_zero's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I agree with @Macisle - it is entirely relevant. If you want to stop loosing tanks to close assaulting infantry, stop loosing tanks to close assaulting infantry. It is entirely up to you. Every single time I have lost a tank or done in a tank by close assault, it was an entirely preventable mistake on someone's part. A mistake I try hard not to make any more. Yeah, there is reason Tankers don't just drive around on their own when in contact with the enemy. -
Combat Mission noob :)
A Canadian Cat replied to Mirkus's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
LOL Now that would be a video worth watching :-) -
My bold. Can you elaborate on this? How are you achieving randomness and by results do you mean of the drop? How did you build it into the campaign or scenario?
