I know how good is my English.
    Unusual parallels...
Of course they was. But... That myth about machineguns shooting at running soldiers is too primitive, stupid, hugely hyperbolised. That didn't happen in such way. Block units officers executed single men, if they refused to fight and agitated others to flee. They were not just behind the rifle units, but in the rear: at road intersections, towns. The scale of war was huge, millions men were involved, may be someone somewhere shot at the crowd, who knows. But showing it like a common event is false. Another myth in this movie, 1 mosins for 2 men... Yes, in 1941 RKKA had problems with small arms. But this means that platoons had only 2 mgs instead of 4. (In 1942 3 mgs, in 1943 - 6) Again, too stupid hypebole. May be somewhere conscripts were caught without arms by quickly advancing Germans, that happened in 1941. But that they were intentionally sent to combat without weapons... I hate such "creative" writers and movie makers.

And re the OP: Early war, of course. Poland  39 and France 40 are grossly under represented in tactical war games. Plus, look at all the “experimental” equipment, formations, tactics...
And: Though I own some, I never was really comfortable with any Afrika Korps game.

DMS got a reaction from Kozlice in Russian radios in squads
That has reason, as attack formations of rifle divisions really were very narrow. 2-2,5 km for division, 500-600m for 1-st echelone battalion, 250-300 for company. But... That companies were smaller IRL. (At average. Sometimes not) In the game with 100% strength units you can use wider formations, I think. Or you will suffer huge casualties from mortarts and hmgs because of over concentration.

Not exactly. Companies don't have radios, MG ammo is limited unlike German squad. (SMG ammo also) That's why companies are 1-task only. 1-st company (or 1-st 2 companies) atack 1-st trench line, next company attacks 2-nd trenchline, next battallion goes deep, e.t.c.
In real life Soviet units were always understrength, 15-men platoons, 50-men companies. So "up 1 level" rule was correct for small units. In the game player commands full strength units, so this rule doesn't work. 1943 platoon with 6 mgs is powerfull, nearly equals to panzergrenadier platoon.

All the games are somewhat generous to the Germans TBH.....Platoon radios were made, but they were not very common at all.

That's kind of the direction I took it too.   If you looked at my old Company at a few weeks into a gunnery/training exercise, we'd only be slightly better shaved (because the US Army is still pretty serious about that, although tanker mustaches wouldn't be uncommon), a lot of our gear would look pretty trashed (well worn, but also knocked around/we'd wear our most torn up stuff to the field).

Simply a lot of dirt, lowered hygiene, some unbuttoned pouches doesn't make for a non-functional unit.  The German solider has a highly inflated opinion of his own capabilities from my experience, but it's in the way they're within the realm of being "very capable" just they look around the room and believe themselves to be a few dozen steps above their peers because Deutsche! * but I'd still put good money on them in a fight if it came down to it.

*Take his all with a grain of salt, but working with other countries:

French: The most frustrating mix of very component and very relaxed you will encounter.  Like I imagine a French pilot in a crashing plane would do everything reasonable to keep it from crashing, once that had happened mutter "merde" to themselves, shrug and have a smoke waiting for the plane to explode while the American would die trying to fashion a new engine from the gum wrappers in his pocket and some duct tape up to the point of impact.

British: They're very tired.  Like they're professional but they're really quite sick of whatever nonsense you colonials/continentals are rousted up about.  It doesn't matter if the field itself was invented last week, somehow they'll act as if Wellington himself had an Electronic Warfare Company at Waterloo, and the British have been doing it forever.  In the event they are incorrect this will rarely be acknowledged.  Whatever kit you have is also entirely too much for the job.  You have two radio nets available in your tanks?  We get by with one.  You have only one radio?  Our tanks are connected by no 4 wire and a Lance Corporal or something.

Poles:  Less exposure, but they seem constantly a little amused.  Americans have tanks?  Who knew?  These computers you have, they turn on when you want them on?  Magic!  Your food, has it caused anyone to explode.  No, I don't mean in the bathrooms I mean literally, do not ask.  Fascinating!  May I have?  You're never sure if they're taking the piss or actually impressed.  Generally good dudes though, if absolute murder to get their names right.

German: Thinks they're the legacy of the Prussian military machine that made Europe quake, is the legacy of social welfare state that has money for post kindergarten's omni-sex bathroom and masseuse for teachers, not for fuel for tanks.

Japanese: Everyone is in total agreement with this plan we made two weeks ago for the operation we are committing to in two hours.  The movements of the enemy are inconsequential to this fact, we are all in agreement, this is where we are going to go because we are in agreement (this is where I had to add in one caveat.  The Japanese are aware of this, and getting a lot better at working on the fly, it's just when they're not a "good" unit they default a lot to "this is the plan we follow because it's the plan we agreed on" vs "this best meets the intention")

Russian: I'm a spy.  You know I'm a spy, I know I'm a spy, I'm going to pretend to be sneaky about this because we are playing a game about it, but we all know why I'm here.  Yep, I just took out my camera and took some shots.  Oh bother the Chinese guy is in the way again.

Chinese: YOU STUPID AMERICANS DO NOT KNOW I AM SPY.  I AM CLEARLY NOT AN INTELLIGENCE AGENT I AM JUST A CHINESE PERSON MYSTERIOUSLY APPEARING IN A PLACE WITH NO CHINESE PEOPLE.  I AM SNEAKILY TAKING A MILLION PICTURES OF EVERYTHING YOU HAVE BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO ME.  I AM SO SNEAKY.  I AM THE ONLY PERSON IN THIS ****TY AFRICAN VILLAGE IN PERFECTLY CLEAN KHAKIS, MY SHOES ARE NOT DUSTY, AND HAVE THREE THOUSAND DIFFERENT SENSORS HANGING OUT OF MY BACKPACK BUT YOU ARE TOO STUPID TO SEE ME BECAUSE I AM A SPY.  HAHA DUMB AMERICANS WHY ARE THEY ALL LOOKING AT ME SO MUCH?
Thai: WE ARE ALL GENERALS PLEASE DIRECT US TO THE ONE PRIVATE IN THE THAI ARMY SO HE CAN CARRY OUR BAGS.

Korean: It's a lot of solid, squared away soldiers with a generous helping of weird people hiding out in weird corners (the ROKA captain showing up with a Gucci tote and an umbrella to a field exercise was a major wtf) and a dose of semi-subversive conscripts ("Hai, Mr American Captain Man, please allow me to tell you how terrible my chain of Command is and are you in needing of a KATUSA by chance?")

Americans: WE ARE HERE TO HELP BY IGNORING WHATEVER WISDOM YOU MAY HAVE AND ATTEMPTING TO AMERICAN OUR WAY OUT OF ALL PROBLEMS WITH MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF MONEY, EXPLOSIVES, OR BOTH WHICH WE WILL FLAGRANTLY LORD OVER YOU WITHOUT REALIZING IT ON ALL OCCASIONS.

I believe it would be interesting to discuss how behaviour of CMBS units and equipment compares to their what they demonstrate in real life and how different sides in CMBS match against each other. To keep as far away from useless flame as possible I suggest we argue only quantifiable data that can be traced either to real life sources or comparable in-game datasets.

A Korean War Combat Mission would be great. Mountainous terrain like CM:FI and US WW2 TO&E and doctrine vs. Soviet TO&E and doctrine. Of course, it would be best if it only covered the first 8 months of the war before it degenerated into a stalemate.

DMS reacted to Shorker in CMRT Russian AT Rifle Teams - Small Flaw Report
Hello together! Again a post from my side to help improving the best game in the world!
There is a small issue with the Russian anti tank rifle teams, which I think, needs to be looked after by occasion:
If e.g. an American Bazooka man is hit, his team mate (or even other soldiers) can pick up the bazooka and a part of the ammo and use it.
The same happens with panzerschrecks, sometimes even with panzerfausts and it happens always with sniper rifles -
but unfortunately it never happens with Russian anti tank rifles.  I assume that this happens in error at the moment and that AT rifle teams were
originally meant to act/behave like panzerschreck teams, sniper teams etc.  ...  Or am I wrong?

Second thing is: When you supply a Russian AT rifle team with extra AT ammo from a supply truck (14,5 mm AP-I), the total number of this AT ammunition doesn't rise,
but the additional rounds are listed separately instead. This has no further effect to the team - it is using the additional ammo as well as the original ammo - no problem -
but it just doesn't look good, as all the types of ammo that a unit has in possession/at hand is usually counted together (one number per each ammo type).
Yes, it is only a mini flaw.

DMS reacted to Sulomon in Sulomon vs Oleksandr: A Quick Battle AAR
Next post!  Sporadic combat but no major pushes.

Oleksandr starts to drop fairly heavy artillery on my minor objective, it stops my infantry platoon from entering the objective but his Bulat and other units in the forest ridges are already doing that.

Pictures of said infantry platoon and Bulat.  Modern spotting continues to surprise me!  I am not expecting forest infantry to be hit so quickly and easily.  As for the Bulat there are three that I've spotted, one in each forest hill/ridge on his side of the map, one on the left, center, and right.  The Bulat above being positioned in the forest hill on the right side of the map.

But I am not the only one to be underestimate enemy spotting.  Oleksandr moved a Tunguska up which got spotted and destroyed by one of my T-90s.

And I make the same mistake damn.  Thought my units were deep enough in the forest combined with that they weren't moving was enough to hide them.  Casualties are light fortunately, the BMP-2 only fired a couple rounds before losing sight.

Then Oleksandr moves another Tunguska forward and in the open.  One of my BMP-3 kills the Tunguska then takes fires from a BMP-2.  One of the BMP-2 rounds penetrates but surprisingly doesn't kill or destroy anything.  The BMP-2 missed or had nonpenetrations on the next severals rounds and burst.  My BMP-3 returned fire and killed the BMP-2.

Oleksandr also dismounted a platoon of infantry in the forest and I have one of my mortars platoon about to fire in that area.  The situation as a whole is fairly even despite me taking a little more casualties.  We both have similar  map control and are both setup in ridges and forest.  I have a fairly good idea of his positions, Bulats, BMP-2s, and infantry mostly in the center and right but some units on the left.  Going to do a some more recon before deciding where to attack with my T-90s.  I'm hesitant to move forward due to the multiple los' Oleksandr's units have and openness of my possible avenues of attack.  I'm not in a rush, still have a good amount of time.
Next post will be Thursday probably!

DMS reacted to Sulomon in Sulomon vs Oleksandr: A Quick Battle AAR
Hello this is an AAR of my quick battle with @Oleksandr  It's a Russia vs Ukraine medium size meeting engagement.

I haven't played much Black Sea (I mostly play Final Blitzkrieg) and I went with what I figure would be a standard force.  I have four platoons of mounted infantry, 5 T-90AMs, six mortars, a mounted grenade launcher platoon, and an igla platoon and a Tunguska for AA.

I don't have a very advanced plan.  Essentially move forward and see how the match develops from there.  But I assume the major objective will be the main contest and the minor objectives won't be very contested.  I send two platoons of infantry, the T-90AMs, and the grenade launchers to the center.  I send a platoon of infantry on each flank, one to secure my minor objective, the other to contest his minor objective if possible.  I dismount my platoon that is securing the minor objective since it is rather exposed, the BMP-3s will be first to the objective.

Damn!  I lose two BMP-3s at the same time and I don't even know what killed them, looks like tank rounds though.  Good thing I dismounted.  This doesn't change my plans but I do am now aware of how dangerous the area around the minor objective is.  Going to move my infantry platoon in the forest next to the minor objective.  I spotted a Tunguska while the rest of my units move forward uneventfully.
Next post will be soon, either tomorrow or the day after.

DMS reacted to Falaise in just to say: MERCI
Hello it will be a year now that I discovered CMBN and this forum and  is time to intervene to say thank you
I'm not the only one to do it but the repetition is good
Since my childhood I have a dream, a desire, to see with my eyes this battle that has rocked my childhood, imagining to travel the battlefield like a drone.
I was born in Falaise in 1970 and my family suffered the battle : 4 killed, the house bombed, the exodus on the road, the strafing of the bomber fighters, the artillery, the fighting but also after the battle, the destroyed houses, the burning vehicles and corpses littering the battlefield were all family meal conversations. Here in Normandie this was an important trauma.
It always impressed and interested me, in a word: fascinated. I constantly asked for clarification and to question civilians or soldiers who had experienced these events.
All the film reports on the subject, I watched them. I think I have seen ¾ images known from the battle.
I never stopped walking the battlefield, collecting vestiges and remaining some hours to imagine the events.
I used every means to immerse myself in this battle and the battles of the second world war in general. Movies, books and even games
Squad leader then Close Combat  that I practiced  a long time.
But although this battle has become my daily life because I have made it my job (I am a guide of  museum and even considered as an expert of fighting led by the Poles during the Battle of Falaise pocket), the time passing my imagination has declined. and little by little the image of these fights in my mind was becoming more and more abstract. I ended up consoling myself by telling myself that if I go to paradise there I  will can achieve this wish
i was not counting on CMBN
What a shock and even if it remains a game, my imagination work and as in my childhood events come to life in my head.
After a year of practice my enthusiasm is not blunted my dream is somehow realized.
    So for that:
    thanks for this formidable game
thanks to the moder who improves even more are aspect,
thank you to  persons who animates this forum
thanks to the battle designers (for the anecdote I live on a map of the game !)
I'm begining to smoke again and  to say some nastiness on my neighbors, paradise has lost its appeal !!!

The MP44 is not better than a submachine gun at close range or a semi-automatic full caliber rifle like the Garand at medium range. However, the point is that it is capable of doing both. You can deliver reasonably accurate aimed fire over distance or jump into a trench and mow down some people with the same rifle.
