  1. The British Royal Army ... sigh ... the correct nomenclature is on the official website ... http://www.army.mod.uk/ But going back to the OP's question ... because they weren't issued them.
  2. I'm sure no offence will be taken as the map designer will almost certainly have used them as points of reference - the map and missions for this campaign IMHO are bang on the money - I have walked that ground on at least 6 occasions and like all of the master maps ... they are superb.
  3. Your instincts are correct ... can't say more than that without posting spoilers.
  4. Mate - that was an awesome AAR and an awesome result playing it straight out of the box. In your earlier post where you said you were closing in on the compound objective with 20 minutes on the clock I was really surprised but in the end your result pretty much mirrored my final pre-release scenario test in that it went right to the wire with timings. Consequently I am very pleased indeed that this scenario is performing exactly as I intended. It is possible to succeed using other routes but one in particular is more difficult and having played it once I suspect you know which route that would be. There is another AI plan which adds difficulties to the route that you took - mind you, you may have been on the receiving end of that one but just be a more competent player than I am. Thanks for giving it a spin and thanks for your comments - I am glad you enjoyed it because that is really the main motive for making these things.
  5. Hi cns180784 - lot of questions there mate ... here goes... Funnily enough my Op MININISE mission is partially inspired by the Ross Kemp programme you refer to. No I'm not a Royal Marine, I was in the Army attached to 3 Commando Brigade, I am now in the Australian Army having transferred after completing my full service in the British Army. TIC does indeed stand for Troops in Contact and at the time we could expect 20-25 TICs a day. PPIED stands for Pressure Plate IED - more commonly known these days as a VOIED (Victim Operated IED). CWIED is Command Wire IED RCIED is Remote Controlled IED An NAI is a Named Area of Interest and a TAI is a Target Area of Interest. In simple terms a NAI is where you look to confirm or deny an enemy course of action while a TAI is where you want to have an effect on the enemy. For more information on military planning and more detail on NAIs and TAIs I recommend (self-promotion again) my thread in CMRT here ... With regard to C2 for the snipers - I'm no expert as to how detrimental it is in CMSF to have them distant from the HQ but remember that modern comms among first world military powers are pretty good. The presence of the Coy 2IC in FOB Alma will also mitigate C2 issues I'm sure. I can't remember my intent with the Engineers, my gut feeling would be to take the Troop HQ outside the wire with the Assault Group. With regard to Observers/Fire Controllers the CMSF system is as you describe - MFCs are optimised for mortars, FOOs are optimised for artillery and JTACs are optimised for fixed and rotary wing. In reality artillery and air/aviation was directed by an FST (Fire Support Team) which was optimised for both but this grouping is not in the CMSF TO&E as a discrete force pick. I'm not going to complain about that because I did the TO&Es for the British Forces Module. Regards
  6. Ok found the Fallujah Mission here's the link ... http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314&func=fileinfo&id=2869
  7. Bit of self-promotion but here we go .... Into the Green is one of my more recent creations. Here are my other Afghan Missions. http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/tsd3/cm-shock-force-2/cm-shock-force/op-minimise/ This is fictional but representative and the map is a real location in the Sangin Valley http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/tsd3/cm-shock-force-2/cm-shock-force/zumbelay-withdrawal/ This one is a based on a real action during Op HERRICK 4 and maps the actual location (Zumbelay) http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/tsd3/cm-shock-force-2/cm-shock-force/operation-glacier-4/ This one is based on a real action that took place during Op HERRICK 5 and again is mapped to the actual location (Garmsir) http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/tsd3/cm-shock-force-2/cm-shock-force/operation-glacier-2/ This one is based on the attack on Jugroom Fort during Op HERRICK 5 and again is mapped to the actual location http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/tsd3/cm-shock-force-2/cm-shock-force/operation-glacier-1/ This one is based on an action during Op HERRICK 5 and again is mapped to the actual location http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/tsd3/cm-shock-force-2/cm-shock-force/habibollah-kalay/ This one is based on an action during Op HERRICK 5 and again is mapped to the actual location Most of this work represents my early fumblings around in the editor - I think they are fun missions but at the time I never really understood how VPs worked and I hadn't learnt the trick of having 'never arriving' reinforcements so some of them trigger AI surrenders earlier than I'd really like. Why my interest in Op HERRICK 5? I was on it. I've done a couple of Iraq Missions as well ... http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/tsd3/cm-shock-force-2/cm-shock-force/cimic-house/ This one is set in Al Amarah - mapped to the real location and represents Op HAMMERSMITH. And the other one I can't seem to find at all - if you want a copy PM me. It is set in Fallujah and based on a real action with a real map (albeit with horribly squiggly roads).
  8. The picture at the link does not show them on their belt buckles so it would be important for people to remember that before setting up a test to start calculating crawl times using the time they took to crawl 32.26 miles as a data point. Based on my real World experiences, the way the behaviour is modelled in the game is just fine.
  9. Sorry but I disagree ... campaigns are about narratives/immersion. Those campaigns that are based on vaguely well-documented events (such as the premise of this one) need to be less reliant on suspensions of disbelief - particularly those that involve the protagonists. Anyway ... time to be positive - bram 1979, if you can convince me that this will work I'll do you a map for the CMFB timeframe..
  10. I think somebody did a Mod that allowed you to increase text size but I have no idea where it is.
  11. So ... any updates/feedback from the 24 people who have DL'd it. The question is a fairly pointed one because I have another mission that I'm working on which is working on similar premises in terms of constraints and victory conditions.
  12. Congrats on the release ... I know it has been a long journey.
  13. So you now no longer question BFC's policy of requiring 'stock' scenarios to be playable in all three modes as you stated on 10 Apr. I don't disagree with the overall thrust of the points you are making - all of my 'community' scenarios have been designed for one side vs the AI for some of the reasons you state - but these sorts of discussion always work better if the protagonists are consistent.
  14. George is probably not that far off releasing something right up this street ... KG von Schroif - there's a thread on it hereabouts.
  15. I'd have a plan because having LT Winters resurrect himself at any point if he gets killed pretty much defeats the object of having a campaign. Campaign players need immersion and a narrative and right now you have a plan based on a readily identifiable hook - namely 'Band of Brothers'. You need to do a lot more thinking about this.
  16. We've sort have drifted haven't we ... if you want to plug WW2 stuff my guess is that this is not the natural place to do so.
  17. Good to hear so what is your plan for handling the reinforcement/replacement/TO@E issues across three different scripts then?
  18. But I bet someone would have complained if they weren't in the game.
  19. I presume you are aware that your proposed campaign cannot be handled with a single campaign script because CMFB is separate from CMBN.
  20. Don't think you've failed yet although you're probably close on the margins. Designing this so that it sat at an hour or less and getting the VPs right were the biggest challenges in putting this one together. I'm facing similar problems with the one I'm currently working on although it is much bigger in scope.
  21. Not in a million years .... if you missed the drama then rummage around the archives.
