  2. Pandur, That map looks awesome. It looks like Afghanistan. I really hope you integrate this map into a mission and put it up on cmmods. There is, however, something I noticed that didn't look natural. The river should go all the way up to the top. As a geology major, the map would be much more natural looking if the river ran all the way through it. Tactically, it creates choke points at bridges and shallow areas, which CM:SF needs more of. Other than that, the only thing I can say about towns is that you really would have to look at some google earth pictures to see how things look in different countries. Some cities are based on a grid. Some around a circle. Others around the features of the land. Some are just willy nilly. From what I have seen of Afghanistan, you pretty much hit the nail on the head. Afghanistan (and many other countries) look exactly like that. Pretty damn good if you ask me.
  3. The key with urban warfare is to take it slow and be very deliberate with your movements. The second battle of Falluja took quite a while. Basically, you want to find the enemy in the buildings. Once you do, try to find cover. Also, it's always a good idea not to leave any squad alone. Use the "buddy system". (Note: you can split your squad, but it's still better to use at least two). This way you can have one squad pin down the enemy with area fire while the other squad either moves to cover or advances to their objective destination. Only engage in an urban assault if you have to, otherwise blast the hell out of the enemy from a distance. Hell, take the whole building down. That's what they do in Iraq and Afghanistan. Building destruction will occur if you send enough heavy munitions into it. Airstrikes, general artillery strikes, missiles, and tanks do a decent job. Beware though, I have seen enemies survive building collapses just to shoot my guys up when I thought the coast was clear. Also, avoid having infantry use the "move" command during combat because it's too slow. I usually use the "quick" command. It's quick without as much tiring as "fast". Hope this helps you. Have fun!
  4. USA: TOTAL VICTORY! rt, veteran I suffered a lot of casualties, but I think the key is to clean out the CW buildings completely. I finally killed the last guy in there with 3 minutes left. I have finally joined the ranks of the elite.
  5. I agree. Although, as a former member of a CBR (chemical, biological, radiological) team, chem warfare scares me. While it is a reality on the battlefield, I just wouldn't feel right unleashing chemical weapons on people. But hey, I guess if they simulate suicide bombers, why not a chem attack. MOPP level 4!!! Wooo woooooooo, wooo woooooooo!
  6. Ofcourse. Just pretend our guys are wearing MOPP gear. *Interesting Skin idea for you skin modders!!! I would love for someone to do that! *Would be great for Gulf War 1 battles as well as early 2003 Iraq War battles.
  7. Glad to hear Bardosy is updating it. Knowing that some people have finished the CW mission makes me want to beat it as is! But I have pounded that place to hell and back, focusing only on the factory. I then tried to blow everything to rubble with everything else I had. The problem is that I can't see the buildings where the enemy is until I get right up to point blank range. And I have a feeling that the artillery did almost nothing to the enemy. I have been using the regular artillery rounds: Should I be using the anti-personnel rounds? I was using the regular ones in hopes that I would knock down some buildings, but only one was heavily damaged. I might have to give this another go, just to say I beat that F'n mission before it was changed.
  8. For the screenshots, I was recently pleasantly surprised with how cool Fraps is. It's free, downloads in seconds, and works really easy. You can take all the screenshots you want and even video with fraps.
  9. MarkEzra, I played it and it kicks ass. Thanks. Can't wait for your next project. RT, Veteran. I did pretty well, took a lot of rpg hits, but luckily only 2 vehicles immobilized. And that was after a mad dash through an artillery barrage. Red surrendered as I made my final thrust into the edge of town. This mission was well scripted and realistic. It was really fun.
  10. Go to the strategy and tactics forum and look for the "TF Narwick...Help!" topic. You'll find the best strategy there.
  11. I went hell bent on the CW factory with all the arty I had. I was able to breach the wall and move in to the near buildings. After the massive artillery assault, I also sent a platoon in through a breach on the right side. I captured the factory, although it cost a few men. From there, I moved extra squads to take the rest of the objectives. I ended with 11 KIA and lost several vehicles. The enemy only had 13 OK; the rest were KIA or WIA. I still got a MINOR victory!!!! I finished with all the objectives met, and scored 700 points. The AI finished with 400 points, which they got for causing US casualties. Man, I thought for sure I would win this one . I'll try again.
  12. OK, I'll use your tips to try again. I'll get it one of these days
  13. I have won "minor victories" like 4 times now and still cannot progress in the campaign. Still trying...
  14. Damn that was a crazy missile! It always finds the window. A window seeking missile?
  15. All I know is that the AT4 is way more accurate than depicted by cmsf. Also the rpg in real life is much more inaccurate than depicted by cmsf. I guess they changed it for balancing purposes. I also think the m203 is a bit weak. I would like to see the new semi auto grenade launcher (can't think of name) used in the game.
  16. Yes, I agree totally. So far (with the exception of losing when I win) this campaign has been great. The maps have been varied, fun, and challenging. I still just need to beat that bloody mission with a total victory!
  17. A feature that everyone has been begging for is being able to control what weapon the unit uses. It would be nice to tell a squad to use the at4 in some instances, or just a javelin. It would also be nice to be able to tell a tank to use the main gun or just the mg. This feature was implemented in CMx1. But who the hell knows if it's on battlefronts "long list of things to implement".
  18. Yes, I agree. The ai has its limitations, but the good scenarios have good ai plans that will challenge you. I bought the game not long after it came out and I still play. If you're into this sort of thing, I highly recommend the full game. There is simply no other that can match it.
  19. Hey there, Mine also got stuck at 50% for a while. I clicked, alt-tabbed, ctrl-alt-deleted... nothing. So I had to do a hard restart. Next time I guess I'll give it a bit longer.
  20. No, tiny_tanker, I think he was supposed to go to Iraq but they wouldn't let him, saying it would be too much of a danger for all the Brits around him.
  21. I must have. They weren't very aggressive. The most movement they made was on the right side of the map and they just tried to position themselves in some buildings. Then once I made my way toward the end, some guys gave me a rough time, but I was able to wipe them out pretty fast. Guess I just got lucky, I'll try it again one of these days.
