  1. Elvis, A gallant fight and an excellent AAR. This was one hell of a showcase. The eastern front is back...with a vengeance. Heinrich505
  2. Elvis, Ouch, man that was brutal. Seeing all those crosses after the flame attack... I feel a little better seeing the additional "Red" red crosses you just posted. Keep whittling him down. I want to celebrate the death of the flame tank with a very large and flaming explosion! Was distressed to hear that Sgt. Schultz perished. Did anyone let his brother know? I think he is stationed at Stalag 13 at present. Following the action with great anticipation. Ambushed a Soviet flame tank with a flamethrower team once in CMBB. Poetic justice - the tank blew up magnificently. Thanks for posting this. Really great lead-in for the upcoming [hopefully soon] release of RT. Heinrich505
  3. Bil, Most excellent stuff. Can't wait to get my hands on RT. Have been enjoying your AAR. Always top notch. I double checked the video on the flamethrower tank. Who was the bozo that had to run in front of the OT-34 after it flamed the barn? Was that Sergei again? Geez, there's always gotta be one wise guy...he's the one with the marshmallows, right? Thanks for sharing this AAR with us. It is excellent. Heinrich505
  4. John Kettler and Saferight, Agree completely. The novel was excellent. The movie was...eh...okay. Heinrich505
  5. +1 to Wodin. Jason Mark's books are amazing in detail and research. I couldn't find or afford his "Death of a Leaping Horseman" but thank heaven it is being re-released. I'll get it this time around. Just picked up "Into Oblivion" recently and have "Island of Fire" and "Cholm." The quality of his books are top notch. Heinrich505
  6. I always wondered the same thing about the young soldier. He has a chevron so he is probably working his way up to assistant squad leader or such. Jason Mark did research in his excellent book "Island of Fire" where an officer was finally identified from a famous Stalingrad picture. Amazing research. The officer died in a prisoner of war camp in Russia in Feb. 1943, so he didn't last long after the surrender in Stalingrad. The family finally found out about his death in 1948. The officer is pictured on the cover of the book. Heinrich505
  7. A huge +1 to Vanir Ausf B for "Hells Gate." Truly amazing book. Anything by Jason Mark - all his works are extremely well done, many that will whet your appetite for Stalingrad. "Bloody Streets" by A. Stephen Hamilton to get you ready for the Berlin module (I hope). Heinrich505
  8. Thanks Mord, Will probably have to break down and get Fraps or something similar and re-learn how to take screenshots again for that. I really enjoyed doing them for CMBB - pleased they were well received. Heinrich505
  9. Been waiting for this since CMBN came out. I'm in!! Can't wait. Heinrich505
  10. I found that those chaps in the Spits had some real problems distinguishing friend from foe....[he says with a hard trace of bitterness] The fight for the village next to the AA guns was quite dramatic. The paras were very adept at using demo charges to clear some of the houses. Rather enjoyed the battle. Heinrich505
  11. There were some obscure reports in the Defense Ministry that Albert Speer was working on concrete-diving armor as part of the upgrade with the U-Boat schnorkel program coupled with the submergible tanks crossing the Bug River at the beginning of Operation Barbarossa. Heinrich505
  12. Really good scenario. Played it as Axis against AI. The AI kept me at bay until the very last moments. I had an extremely tense cat-and-mouse hunt with my Tiger stalking the US tank destroyers around the buildings in town, eventually knocking out all the AI armor. Then I did a halftrack charge on the flank and got into town. I was amazed that worked. It took 10 minutes of OT for me to swing a victory. That Tiger commander literally ran amok. Very tense battle. I thought it was put together very well - the AI was counterattacking my ridge-line at one point. Heinrich505
  13. When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But freaking T-34s, and tank riders.... [with apologies to Twas the Night Before Christmas] Could it be.....? Heinrich505
  14. Jorge MC, What a cool pic. Could almost be a photo. Heinrich505
  15. I just finished this playing Axis versus AI on Warrior Level. I wanted to commend the Scenario designer. The map was very good, and the battle played out tight. The AI was pretty aggressive. Very nicely done. I managed a total victory when the AI surrendered but not until after giving a very good account of themselves. There were countless small battles as my men stalked the US boys through the hedgerows, and they stalked my Paras back. It was cool having Falshirmjäger to command. As my manpower was whittled down, each Para lost was painful, making me even more cautious. I can say there were many tense encounters and some even came down to one man stalking one enemy. There was one particular US Lieutenant who managed to survive the battle and ambushed every small group of Paras that I tried to hunt him down with. He was deadly with his carbine. This was a very good battle. Thanks Jon for your hard work and effort. Heinrich505
  16. Sublime and Wodin, Winter was an excellent book, one of Deighton's best. Didn't think anyone else knew about it. +1 Heinrich505
  17. A classic among classics. This was the AAR I was looking forward to reading every day. You both did a superb job of showcasing some of the new stuff in MG while at the same time putting on a great struggle. Thanks for the really great show. Heinrich505
  18. Laughing...too....hard.......can't breathe......need EMS quickly..... Heinrich505
  19. I've had an entire squad marked yellow as wounded when the shreck guy must have let loose with his AT weapon inside a building. He was firing at Brit paras down the block. Sorry, no saves. They were not taking fire so they couldn't have been wounded that way. Probably a good idea to break the squad to separate the AT boys and then put them on a different floor from the rest of the squad or hide them behind the building. Heinrich505
  20. Bil, Take care of the RL stuff. This battle was one heck of a ride. I loved every minute. You have a gift for drawing us in and keeping the suspense ratcheted up. Thanks for the AAR. Heinrich505
  21. I have been battling through the streets of Arnhem with this amazing scenario. Having spent so much time in the bocage, the city fighting is a welcome change, but also a bloody reminder that I have gotten rusty in my house-to-house fighting. The map is fantastic and really immerses you into the terrible fighting that occurred around the base of that famous bridge. I haven't finished it yet, but I can say that the Brit AI is giving me fits. The Red Devils are living up to their reputation. They are tenacious. The designer is to be commended. This is one thoroughly enjoyable battle. Thanks for all the hard effort that must have gone into putting this one together. As a side note, the inclusion of fausts and shrecks firing from inside buildings is a welcome touch. There is a down side though. I wasn't paying all that much attention to one of the squads, but coming back to them the next turn I noticed that every single one of them showed yellow for slightly wounded. A quick check of the shreck rockets showed that some had been fired, and the squad was in a building. Evidently Hans failed to warn his mates prior to firing the "stove pipe" and ended up wounding his whole squad. :-( I would recommend splitting off the shreck guy and his loader as an AT team and keeping them behind the building. Heinrich505
  22. kohlenklau, The movie you are referring to is "Shock Waves." I remember that one well. It starred Peter Cushing. It was rather creepy. Heinrich505
  23. James, I have to agree with altipueri...they are Scots.... I lost one of my guns for pretty much the same situation as it failed to set up right and got blasted shortly by the enemy. The other gun...worked like a charm and racked up a good showing for itself. Heinrich505
