  1. Hey Louie, not even the beta testers know when it's going to be released, but all I can tell you is that it's looking GREAT. If you liked the CM games, you'll love Combat Mission: Battle for Normandy. Until it's released, why not play CM:Shock Force for a while??
  2. I'd give an L.A. area preview, but I'm pretty sure I'd be breaking my non-disclosure agreement.
  3. Sweet Rune! I'll bring a few gallons of vodka, a couple kegs, and some strippers. We're all getting ####ed up at Rune's!! Wooohooo!! Can I crash on your couch, man? Thanks! Come on man, I wouldn't do that to you! lol Sounds fun though. I need to head up to Chicago to see a buddy and visit my Aunt, but don't think it's going to happen any time soon.
  4. I haven't been able to beta test the last few versions of the Normandy game, but a few versions ago it was running very well on my system. I have an AMD triple core processor, 4gb RAM, and an ATI card with 1GB RAM. It looks and plays very very nicely. I can't wait until school is over, I've been chomping at the bit to take the newest version out for a spin.
  5. My guess on that one is that you already have a mod for that. Make sure you only have one mod for each thing. You can try to listen to the mod; it should be an mp3 file. If it's a .brz file, you can use RezExplode to break it up into the original files. Make sure it works and you can listen to it first. If this still doesn't work for you, let me know and I'll throw a little brain power at it and see if we can get it to work.
  6. Well Ken, that sucks, as I'm not one to waste valuable time reading the lawyer crap either. But... the good news is you won't have to wait too much longer, I don't think. And when you do get both of those games, it'll be like an early Christmas for you.
  7. Nice!!! Thanks for all the hard word, Mord! I'll be downloading these asap.
  8. This is usually due to having apostrophes ' in your mod names. Just remove the ' from the file names. The code I use can't handle apostrophes in in the string variables because ' is used to comment the code. I'm sure there's a way to get around it in code, but I just haven't been able to do that yet. Example: Rename "Bill's Mod.brz" to "Bills Mod.brz" Be sure to follow the same rule with all things you name in the mod manager. Scenarios, campaigns, mods, saved games, etc. Just dont use them.
  9. Erwin, this can be confusing because some mods are packed differently from others, depending on the mod maker. Switching these files in and out can add to the confusion. Here are some simple notes: *The z folder can hold .brz files, textures, sounds, and folders full of textures and sounds. *Think of .brz files as folders full of textures and sounds. *Some mods are packed into .brz files. For example, if the mod creator wanted to put a bunch of mods that go together in the same file, he could use Rezpack to put them all into a .brz file. This file can be put directly into the z folder. *Some mods are not packed into a .brz file. This allows the user (you) to mix and match a little more. All of these individual files can be put into the z folder, or can be put into a folder that is in the z folder. *It is possible that you have conflicting files. If you have a uniform mod packed into a .brz file and also have the individual file as well. The one with the last alphabetical appearance will get used. This is where the mod manager can help, if you assign a mod type to each mod. *You can pack and unpack mods into the .brz files. In your CMSF directory, you can find a folder called "Mod Tools". In this folder, you will see RezPack and RezExplode, as well as a readme file explaining how to use these. It can be very helpful for organizing your mods the way you want to organize them. You can rezpack all your "woodland camo" textures into a .brz file and name it woodland.brz, so all you have to do is put that file into the z folder. -OR- you can rezexplode a .brz file to see all the files inside of it. Then you can mix and match all you want. Don't let this confuse you too much, as most mod makers package their mods in a way that will allow you to just drop their mod into your z folder. Mixing and matching is up to you. I hope this helps, it really is simple once you understand.
  10. I have created a mod manager I nick-named z-Bee. You can download it in the repository. Version 1.4 is the latest, although I've been working on a high resolution (1920x1080) version since I got my new monitor. It will include some minor enhancements. However, I would only recommend using the mod manager if you have a ton of mods you want to try out and/or switch out depending on what scenario you are playing. You can create "mod sets" if you wish. You can also manage scenarios and campaigns, saved games, and hotkeys. It has a bug or two, but it works and will help if you like using mods.
  11. Check the other posts in this forum. Many crashes are due to: *having windows vista or 7 without admin rights *the wrong patch being applied *unsupported video card drivers Look for those three things and with any luck you should be able to fix the problem.
  12. I certainly hope Scipio will be able to do that without much trouble. I really do love the weapons icons and can't live without them! Ok, I can, but I prefer them 100 times over. They should come with the game. Hopefully Mord can pull off a Canadian accent. "Squad, Move Oot!" While the guys who are getting paid do great work, I really think we owe a lot to quite a few of these guys who spend a significant portion of their free unpaid time helping to make the game better. Thanks for all the work!
  13. Yeah guys, this is just the German campaign!!! There's so much new content (units and campaigns especially) it's not even funny. NATO has been in production for a while and I've barely scratched the surface!
  14. Rule #1 Conserve your forces as if you, the commander, had to write the letters to the dead soldier's families telling about how brave they were. Always revise and improve your tactics, which are meant to keep your guys alive while neutralizing as many enemies as possible. I know in combat losing men is inevitable, but always work for better tactics. Use cover, covering fire, smoke, airpower, artillery, and speed. Try to have your units working together. Use bounding overwatch when advancing through unknown territory. Suppress known units/unit locations while the other unit moves up. I guess just be careful!
  15. I don't think anyone has anything to worry about here.
  16. Not only can you use a silent background track, but there are other background mods as well, including (I believe) a couple with no guns or distant artillery.
  17. That means you don't know how to play the game. And I'm not sure it's possible to be outnumbered no matter what side you are on. You can't change the number of troops appearing in a scenario depending on whether blue or red is played. :D If you learned how to play like a tiger stalking his prey instead of being a white rabbit in a cage with a python, you might actually enjoy yourself.
  18. But Steve, you guys never really stop, nor do you plan to for quite some time. Each "version" of the game is really just a base for the next one. These versions are just snapshots in time of the evolution of Combat Mission. Every few years, there's going to be a major overhaul of the engine, but it's going to be based on lessons learned and better technology. If your grandpa gave you a '32 roadster, but you put on some new tires, an engine, lights, guages, upholstery, fenders, windshield, and an electrical system you ordered from a hot rod magazine, you'd still have yourself a '32 Roadster. The game is still the best in it's class and getting better all the time.
  19. That's cool. I've also found so many cool ruins looking around Syria on Google Earth that it seems like ruins should almost be flavor objects.
  20. I'd like to be able to select the floor. From a distance it can be hard to tell which floor I'm clicking on. Sometimes I mean to click a certain floor and end up targeting another floor. And once the target is marked with the red line, it can sometimes be difficult to tell which floor it's actually targeting. As a side note, I'd like some indication of what floor a selected unit is currently on. Now sometimes I have to select the unit, hit Tab to jump to the unit, and move the camera down to the level that the unit is on, just to be able to see what floor they are on.
  21. There are definitely suicide car bombers (the good guys according to Chops) and different forms of IED's already in the game. Otherwise, there's plenty of mods that can change up at least the appearance of the uncons. I wanted some civilian squads in there too, but BFC doesn't want to go in that direction. They'd rather keep it military vs military.
  22. A physics engine for CM. While Steve says it can't be now, there's no telling what will happen in the future. 20 years from now... immersive virtual reality worlds. We'll be soaking wet, crouched on a hilltop with a paper map, a pencil, and a notepad and screaming over the radio trying to coordinate an ambush. And Steve will still be declining requests: "I've been saying this for years, BFC has no plans to make a 'Liberty in Thailand' mod!"
