  1. Please tell your son that I want to thank him for his service to our country.
  2. Howdy, I stopped in here a while back when I heard about Battle for Normandy coming out. I've played many, many games of the old combat mission series and I'm very excited about this new release. I enjoyed many games by email and the hot seat version with an old friend of mine. However It had been so long since I played that I really couldn't remember how to play anymore. Some of the folks here suggested that I try shock force to relearn the game and get up to speed. I did that and was surprised how fast it all came back to me. I've got to say though that I don't like the shock force game. The combat is way too one sided to make an interesting game and the desert environment only increases that one sided balance of power. World war II is definitely where it's at for me, both from a historical point of view and as a challenging game. Just wanted to say hello and I hope to see some of you folks across the email battle field soon.
  3. I found that I can save the file to the desktop and then copy and paste it into the incoming email folder. Pretty clumsy procedure though. shock force is installed under programs, that was the default. The out going email saves fine, but I can't save to the incoming folder except by copying and pasting and then it asks for confirmation as admin. If I could just redirect where the game saves and loads files from it would be easy but I don't see anyway to do that. Should I move the game or reinstall it some where else? Don't most people have it under programs that being the default?
  4. Thanks again folks I signed up for dropbox. Haven't tried it yet. gibsonm I sent you an email let me know how to give you the credit. I didn't see anything there telling me how to let them know I was referred.
  5. thanks folks I appreciate the help, I didn't know about the program folder. I think I'm gonna check out the drop box that sounds like a pretty good idea.
  6. Hi folks, I was wondering if anybody could give me a clue here. When I try to save an incoming email file I get the message "you do not have permission to save in this location contact your administrator" I'm running windows 7. I've tried running the game as admin no difference. I searched the forums for this but couldn't find anything. Also is there a better way to handle Play by email files? Thanks
  7. I just bought it for the same reason, so I could get up to speed for Normandy. It had been a long time since I played CM I'm relearning everything. Coming back pretty fast though.
  8. You were right, after a quick search I got the game for 9.95 from GamersGate (which I had never heard of before) I payed an extra buck for a patch from Battle front that upgrades it to the same version that they sell from this site. Played and won my first game last night on veteran level. Had a great time. As you said it appears in the quick battles you can play red vs red or blue vs blue. I might get to try that tonight. By the time Normandy comes out I ought to be able to hit the ground running. I've played the older versions in either hot seat or pbem. I never played in any tournaments I'll have to find out how it's done. The band of Brothers club that Toxic.zen mentioned looks interesting. Thanks for all your help
  9. Toxic.zen said: I may finally drop off on my CMAK play though as the club im in "The band of brothers combat mission club" is going to support CMBN so i wont be negligent in no longer playing CMAK...
  10. Thanks again folks. I've got the bug to play really bad now, can't wait for Normandy to come out. I don't like modern warfare, the battles are usually too one sided, and some how they lack the romance of WW II, but I'm thinking about buying shock force just to ease my pain until Normandy is released. Trouble is I know I won't play it after I can get Normandy. Any idea how long it will be? Are any of you guys playing Shock force by email? I see that there are add ons too. What would you recommend? I've still got a lot of catching up to do. It's been quite a few years since I played combat mission. I blew the crap out of my own infantry because I misjudged the effective area for mortar fire. Thought I was wasting the enemy because I heard them screaming turns out it was my own guys. It shows you how immersive the game can be, that you feel really bad about doing something like that. You can actually feel responsible for the fate of imaginary men. I still have a lot of catching up to do before I'm ready for a real opponent, but I'm enjoying the game immensely and looking forward to joining the community. When I used to play Panzer Leader, the board game with little squares of cardboard to represent your forces and hit probability charts on paper in the early 70s, I only knew one guy who had the patience and the interest to play the game against me. One of the great things about the internet is that you can find and interact with people who share your interests. Thanks for all your help.
  11. Hello again folks. I've got what I'm sure is a stupid question. I have been trying the shock force demo and enjoying it, but in the going to town scenario and the smashing metal scenario there's something I'm missing. In both I seem to have destroyed all the enemy forces I can find, and taken all the objectives but the game never ends. I cruise around finding no enemies and the game never comes to an end. Do you have to kill every last enemy on the map? I know it's got to be some dumb thing I'm overlooking but I can't figure it out. Can anybody clue me in? Thanks
