  1. While I sometimes like to make my guys run out under fire to save lives (for the sake of drama), wait until the area is no longer under fire. If the wounded/dead can be medic-ed, definitely medic them.
  2. Sweeeet! I'm back! Getting my new computer all set up right now! phenom II triple core 4gb ram new ati video card 100 x better than my old computer which was mid-range in 2005!
  3. hcrof, why aren't you writing books? This is a great read, the pics are beautiful, and you're making me have some serious withdrawals!
  4. Any news on all of this? I've found me a cheap 9800gt card and want to know if this problem was ever fixed. Thanks!
  5. Schrullenhaft, Thanks! The more I searched, the more I realized that I didn't know what I was looking for. I haven't had to look at it all since 2005, when I built my last computer. I will definitely be sticking with the mid-range stuff. I have seen some pretty decent prices on some of the Phenom II's and motherboards. I'll probably start with 2gb of ram as well. Even the mid-low ranged stuff of today will blow the doors off my old rig. And yes, I'll be upgrading to pci-express, so I'll be needing a new video card as well. This will also have to be mid/low-ranged as far as price goes. Your post is EXTREMELY helpful to me. THANKS AGAIN! I may be heading down to Fry's tomorrow to see what they have on sale.
  6. Hi, My computer was fried a month or so ago and I am now looking for a motherboard/cpu/ram combo. Looking around, I have no idea what is good or not. I don't need the latest, most expensive and most powerful combo. Just a decent mid-range combo that will last me at least a couple years. Any help, suggestions, etc is appreciated. Thanks!
  7. AAV's need to be treated with care. *Try to* -Keep them under cover. -Use smoke to mask movements. -Use them as ammo crates. They are LOADED! -Use them as infantry support. Blackcat is right. Get you infantry up (multiple squads if possible) and area fire enemy squads, anti-tank squads first. Then try to roll your AAV's up on them to where they are only in LOS with the suppressed enemies. Then just are fire with the MK19 until they are all shrapnelized. *Avoid* -Charging enemy positions. -Using them like tanks. -Leaving them out in the open. -All anti-tank weapons. -Driving them down urban avenues that have not been cleared by infantry. Enemies can be hidden anywhere. These same tactics can be applied to any vehicle. Even tanks should be used like this when they are supporting infantry.
  8. I don't know how all of that works, as it's all done 'under the hood'. Generally speaking, BFC has done a lot of work with spotting. All I know, is it's darn accurate. And yes, all you will see is the ? denoting that a unit has been spotted there. Chain of command definitely is part of the equation as well. Costard is right, there is also a fog of war element involved. One major rule of warfare is that very few things will turn out as perfectly as you've planned it. Your guys aren't suicidal. You're not commanding al qaida troops!
  9. Thank you! And to you as well. I hope everyone is as blessed as I have been!
  10. Yep me too. If the crew has rifles, they can hold their own long enough for reinforcments or withdrawal. No assaulting though!
  11. Piecekeeper, I won't have access to the latest version of z-bee for a few weeks yet (computer is fried), but I will look into that. It may already be fixed. Until then the only thing I can suggest is that you type in the paths and make sure there are no apostrophes ' . You could even try browsing to fill the path boxes and then just closing the window and not hitting the save button. If you have the full version of Access 2007, you could fix it easily. If it still won't work for you, just hang tight for a few more weeks and I'll hopefully be able to release 1.4.
  12. I'm a time complainer and an RT player. I often let time slip by in what feels natural for me (when attacking). I do pause a lot (and still wish for an on-screen pause button), but time does slip by when I'm in the zone.
  13. I think vehicle camo is more for reducing visual identification from aircraft. Maybe they don't like the idea of foreign satellites watching what we're doing in Afghanistan. Or maybe the paint has some super secret quality to it.
  14. Damn computer's fried. I'll definitely check it out once I get another mb up and running.
  15. No, I'm not saying that. I'm only saying that this game is the best of it's type, so the money is worth it if you like this type of game.
  16. Wow hcrof, really cool! Pics are beautiful (nice mods!) and great AAR!!!
  17. Maybe a couple of the guys got splashed during the amphibious landing and their nvg lenses were fogged up. This is one of those things that you need to extend some of your imagination towards. MikeyD, great scenario by the way!
  18. The patches are worth the $5 bucks. To answer the original question... Things are much more solid and less buggy. OK, you know the additional units you get with the add-on modules, but what you don't know is that they can change the way you play the game. You will learn/use different tactics if you're using a fully armed USMC platoon vs. using some British recon unit. The modules multiply the games value. Not to mention all the great scenarios you won't be able to play if you don't get the modules .
  19. The value is in the atmosphere. These towns can seem a bit like ghost towns. I'd like to see more flavor as well.
  20. I have a good M2 sound also. To me, it's fairly authentic. It's a big booming sound rather than the kachink kachink sound where you can hear the links falling. Trust me, when the .50 is going off, everyone around knows it, and they can't hear the links falling. The wav is on my dead computer, but I can email it to you so you can check it out and see if it suits you. The others you mentioned above are really good too.
  21. It's an older setup, decent in 2005. A Gigabyte Nforce chipset motherboard with an Athlon xp 3500+ processor and 2 512 sticks of pc3200 RAM. The video card was a Radeon x850. So as you can see, it may just be time to upgrade. I think the hardware is about 2 or 3 generations behind current. I've considered just getting a cheap old mb, my fiance has an extra x850, so I could at least try to get back up and running very soon. But over the coming couple of months, I'll be buying bits and peices of what will be my newest Frankenstein rig. It will suck if the ram and cpu are fried though. Schrullenhaft, you may be right. I had not considered that a loose card may have crossed pins/connectors. That would make a lot of sense, since the card and slot melted on one end (not the end that locks into place). Yep, I think that just may be what happened.
  22. Shortly after posting, I changed drivers to 9.11. I shut off the computer, decided to blow some of the dust out of there, and I turned it back on. Within 10 seconds it shut off, right as I started to smell burning wires. It totally died on me. The video card's gold edge had a corner melted off. The AGP slot had some blackening inside. Aaaarrrrggghhhhh! Right as I'm moving into a new house and have extremely limited computer money. That's just the way it goes I guess. :[ So now I'm probably stuck with having to get a new motherboard, processor, ram, and video card. BadAss2005... R.I.P..
  23. Well, I opened the case last night and confirmed that the fan was spinning. I also gave it a quick blast or two of compressed air. The thing is, it's crashing while loading, not during gameplay. If it does load, it plays just fine. But crashing while loading leads me to believe that it's a driver issue. It never gets that chance to get hot. Thanks for the quick response btw, Schullenhaft, you're always on the ball, even on a Sunday!
  24. Hey there. Now I'm having major problems. There's something bad happening. I have searched my computer for zone alarm and I don't see it. What is happening: *Computer will either freeze or restart. *Occurs when loading the 3d engine, or unloading the 3d engine. *Occurs in other games as well, but more on unloading. *I've installed/uninstalled drivers like 30 times trying to get it to work. *Almost never crashes during normal computer use including internet. Hardware/drivers: *ATI Radeon x850 *I've used catalyst 8.6 - 9.3. Any help is greatly appreciated. Nothings sucks more than ~finally~ getting to sit down and load up a new scenario just to have it reboot the computer.
