I usually say this when people say that CM games are expensive:

I have lots of games that have cost me 20 or 30 $ - and I have played them less than 10 hours. Then there´s CMBN. It costs far more, but it has given me thousands of hours of gameplay - and still does.  So when it comes to price per hour of gameplay, CMBN is by far the cheapest game I ever bought.
Like the others, I recommend you try the demos: If you like playing them, then you have found a game that you probably wont get tired of for a very long time.

I don't usually take the time to do something like this, but I just finished the battle "Chaos at Ferme Diedenhove" and I have to say it was the most enjoyable scenario that I have ever played in this series - and I like this series a lot. I don't know who the scenario creator was, but you captured more than just history in this scenario, you seemed to truly get the feeling of the "Battle of the Bulge" - the U.S. Army's largest battle (speaking as someone who as has spent a lot of time reading about the battle and touring the Ardennes battlefield). Naturally, all of the scenario creator's efforts would have not been possible without the developers, who stuck with this series to create an extraordinarily great tactical game of World War II. Outstanding job all around!

Hunt mode for infantry are all to exhausting, unrealistic exhausting. I can not recall that I have ever been that much more exhausted from sneaking and wtaching, when enemy contact is expected. Infantry get exhausted as hell as it is, why do Hunt mode exhaust them so damn much? Should not Hunt mode just be the mode where they always stop at contact instead? The move options now is good, the faster the more likely they only stop briefly or not at all to fire back. But it is unrealistic that Hunt mode are that more tiring for the infantry. I would like Hunt mode to be a slower advance and where they always stop at contact. Should it be more exhausting than just Normal move? Of course, when one cocentrate and have the weapon in ready position that is a little bit more exhausting than just marching ahead. But this much? Not in my opinion.

    Hi Lille
The above shot is set in January 1945 in Hungary.
Personally, I've not tested the full range of weather parameters and this was taken using a beta build when I was doing some AI plan testing in a scenario I made.
Caveat. How and when winter shows up and how to access whitewashed vehicles could change. Suffice to say winter terrain and weather conditions and whitewashed vehicles are in.
    Cheery!

    Here´s a quick-fix mod set for the R2V Shermans.

@DougPhresh made a request for Sherman mods for R2V the other day. I replied that I dont really have the time to make mods from scratch. Luckily, I discovered that I had an old set of Sherman  Photoshop files that Aris´ once sent me. This was only the files for his CMBN Sherman IC mod, so most of the mods in this set are based on these.
I have simply taken each bmp for the hulls and turrets of every Sherman in R2V - and placed the dirt, mud and grime from Aris´  Sherman IC on top of them. So most of the mods have the excact same layer of dirt on top of them. Luckily, it doesn' t really loook like that, because the base bmp´s are relatively different.

In some cases, the bmp´s were so different from the Sherman IC´s layout that I couldn´t use the method described above. In that case I have taken files from other CM games and renamed them to fit. Or done a bit of modding myself.
In short: This is not a set of mods made from scratch - but a quick-fix that will allow you to use "Aris´ed" R2V Shermans. Sherman grogs might find errors in camo schemes and such, but as far as I am concerned, they are as good as they get.
I am sharing the mods via this Dropbox link - until they are available on Cmmods IV.

Got another mod ready - and as it might not be the last, I figured I might as well start a dedicated thread for my own mods.

This one is one of my new favorite vehicles in CMFI R2V: The Morris C9B SPAA.
A favorite to play with, that is - not to mod! It has been a real PITA to mod, because it has no large surfaces, but millions of little nooks and crannies. Luckily, modding is now over and I enjoy playing with my weathered Morris SPAA. Hope you will too.

As always I´ll share it via this Dropbox link - until it is available on CMMODS IV.

Most of the Operations were great fun. Although I seem to remember that there was one set around Oosterbeek, in the 1st battle the Germans were attacking from both the east and west. But when you fired up the 2nd battle the front line adjustment shoved them all over to one side of the map. Ho hum.

Fizou reacted to Combatintman in No Plan Survives First Contact With The Enemy - Planning Tutorial
There seem to be a few tutorials doing the rounds of late … so you’re going to get another one – on planning. So if you’re somebody who wondered how it is done, or are somebody who casts a rudimentary eye over the ground, skims through the orders and then just launches across the line of departure with the view to developing a plan on the hoof and wants to change this – then this is the thread for you.

The vehicle for the tutorial is SeinfeldRules Assault Position Mission.  The associated thread is here:

    http://community.battlefront.com/topic/119212-seinfeldrules-scenario-thread/page-1

The mission can be downloaded from here:

What do you get from this thread – simply put it will delve into the planning process and then roll into an AAR. I am playing this as designed so Axis attacker versus the AI. So without further ado, let’s crack on with it. Also I’d be grateful if people could refrain from posting spoilers on this mission if you’ve played it – I haven’t yet – which is kind of the point of stepping through the planning process first!!!!

I will warn you that I am no means an expert on military planning but have been around it enough to know how it works. I will cut corners with it here and there but this isn’t necessarily about military doctrine, it is about giving you guys an understanding of some techniques to help you plan your battles should you have a mind to do so.

Clearly questions (that do not contain spoilers) are welcome but many of my answers might be ‘I’ll come to that later’.

Fizou got a reaction from Lethaface in Need help: Last CMFI training mission
I had to try this one out as well, never gotten around to do so earlier. Nice little campaign
I might have gotten a easier rout to victory with the AI plan. In the final mission (spoilers), two of the PzIII charged forward straight up the hill to the paras defensive positions. They where quickly dispatched with grenades and a bazooka. It didn't take long for the panzers to button up with a lot of small arms fire and the 105 artillery mission hitting the hill and areas around the "German base of attack" objective( I used a slow ROF to keep the enemy attack broken up for a bit longer).
Then as the PzIVs moved forward, one drove up the slope to the house close to "German base of attack" objective. It never spotted the pack howitzer that killed it turret front from 470 meters with two HEAT shells.
Once I got the Sherman reinforcements I maneuvered three of them to my far right by the small house and orchard, from where they could get hull down positions. The remaining two where positioned in hull down positions on hill 1056. With the help of the infantry i spotted a second PzIV on the slope to the right (my right) of the "German base of attack" objective. It was buttoned up and I soon had all five Shermans with LOS to the position. One finally got a spot and shot it up from 450 meters (firing from an elevated position it scored a hit on the hull top armor), the PzIV never spotted its attacker.
Soon after I spotted a third PzIII just to the left (my left) of the "German base of attack" objective. Hull down and with a lot of trees between it and my two Shermans on hill 1056. My initial plan was to move the two platoons of supporting infantry up the respective side of the enemy objective and take out this tank with a flanking maneuver. But before this could happen one of the Shermans on hill 1056 got a spot and could kill the PzIII with a turret front penetration from 600 meters (I didn't expect that with the nice hull down position and much foliage in the way). It was also buttoned an didn't get a spot on its attacker.
I could then proceed with the infantry pincer and tanks in overwatch to capture the  "German base of attack" objective, no more panzers to be found.
I think the overall lessons here are to not rush in with the tanks, make sure you have solid spots on the enemy tanks with your infantry before you move in so you know you can get good positions to engage from. Try to have the enemy buttoned up so you have a spotting advantage. And use superior numbers when ever possible.
No cakewalk to be sure and its important to take the time to attack in a coordinated manor. To many times I have thought a battle is all but over to rush in and suffer horrible casualties.

    Mmmmm... let me think.
75 and 76mm M4A2 (diesel) Shermans, SU-57 (U.S. 57mm gun on HT chassis), White Scout Car, Jeep, M17 AA halftrack, M5, M5A1 and M9A1 halftracks, GMC CCKW truck, and Valentine Mk IX (which I REALLY had to lobby hard to get into the game). I think that's the lot for lend-lease.

I'm excited to work on this - I figured that each mod for a WW2 setting will take more time since each element has a story behind it.
I think that the Polish forces could be represented a little more with my upcoming mods, and overall this game is wonderful. I do love Red Thunder though.
But this Italian theatre setting is amazing place to do combat. So I will try to add something to it.

    Guys
This thread will be used for me to advise you of updates and latest uploads to the aforementioned areas.
Its an ongoing process that Im working through but a quick update for this first post is....
The Scenario Depot III : Ive totally redesigned this and am working on fixing thumbnails so that the grid format looks good.  When uploading scenarios be sure to use a square image (any size) for your featured image.

The CM Mod Warehouse : A huge task that Im still plodding away at. Im tidying up all the downloads from the previous site and have also got a HDD full of mods from the mists of time that will eventually all get uploaded also.
The Proving Grounds II : This site is dead but I am going to work on it to turn TPGII into something new... possibly a challenge site or something along those lines... still to be decided.
Any updates I carry out or content uploaded you will be notified about in this thread.
    Thats all for now.
    Thanks

I don't think the WP rounds are intended for offensive use in CM, only as smoke. That's just how its been modeled. So I'm guessing that's why that message pops up.
WP rounds will however cause casualties if they land close to infantry if I'm not mistaken. But I don't think its very effective. HE will do the job better in the confines of CM.

Ahh, yeah. I forgot that they changed things with tags when I created that. You'll need to add a space then  [snow] at the end of the file name.
Ex: A winter background picture becomes "portrait german infantry [snow]" minus the quotation marks.
You will actually be able to have two of each portrait in the mods folder now without them canceling each other out.
    portrait german infantry
    portrait german infantry [snow]
The snow background will only show up in scenarios where there is snow on the ground. Any other portrait named portrait german infantry will show up when there isn't snow.
If you wanted to use portraits with say the flag background, all the time, you'd have to make two copies of them and add the [snow] tag to one (as above).
I will make sure to address this when I get around to updating the FB mod to my new style. And will make sure it's all set in the FI & RT module mods.

So I'm playing around in the editor with a night action. Out of curiosity I was wondering re the stars and their constellations. So I used a phone app I have, which identifies the constellations in the night sky, on the night sky in my scenario (Poland). And it worked - identified the various constellations. How cool is that?!
