I noticed this site and it's wonderful original color photos of US & Allied forces in Italy in WW2. I realize such a link might otherwise be grist for the General Forum but I posted here, figuring some modder might use them for reference. I find it amazing how much the CM:FI at times reminds me of some of these photographed scenes.

Its rare that you find pictures like this. The famous pict of 752nd Tank Battalion in Plaza Emanuel, Bologna with M18 Hellcats from 701st Tank Destroyer Battalion, May 1945 I think.
You can pick out individual vehicle types. Mostly 76mm M4A3 (76mm), early narrow mantlet M4A1 (75mm) sprinkled in. I also spot a single M4A3(?) 105mm howitzer tank. Plus one flail tank at the back (borrowed from the Brits?), two M3-based recovery vehicles and one M4-based recovery vehicle (I forget their names).

Yeah, Burden of Command, I'm closely following it too @BletchleyGeek, I picked up that book reading Luke Hughes' blog actually. I think some CM's players may be interested in it and vice-versa.

CMFDR reacted to Combatintman in New Scenario - Assault on Port Cros
I figured it was about time I created a scenario for this title and I am now in the closing stages of finishing off a scenario titled Assault on Port Cros. The scenario, while based on historical events, is not what I would term as an accurate representation of them so this is more of an attempt to offer something new and maybe different for CMBN.
    The basics:
Play Mode:  Allied vs Axis AI only.
    Battle Type: Allied attack.
Battle Size: Large (I know this is subjective so to qualify this it is an Allied company plus force against an approximate Axis battalion element).
Battle Length: 3hrs 30 minutes (although this may change based on final testing).
    Map Size:  2368x1264m
Requirements: Market Garden and Vehicle Pack modules.
The basics of the history are that the First Special Service Force assaulted German coastal defences, including Port Cros, on a small island group covering the approaches to the Port of Toulon to set the conditions for the main Operation Dragoon landings in the south of France in August 1944.
The following image forms part of one of the briefing graphics for the scenario:

Sorry I literally got off a plane following 3 flights over the last 24 hrs only a few hours ago, so I'm a bit jet lagged/all over the place. Two months of touring Europe over Chrissy.
The mission with the Hobart's Funnies is the mission that comes next if you lost the mission to take the village and northern hangers before this one (the historical outcome). Though I think there are some Flail tanks in that first attempt to take the village. With regards to the mission in question you only get a platoon of regular Shermans, which is part of the reason why the scenario is called what it is - they were some words muttered by one of the officers stuck in the fields during this attack. The Canadian brass (in my opinion) didn't really plan this operation well and the poor suckers on the southern route were the poor cousins when it came to receiving armoured support. The northern approach was always the focus.
The campaign was built almost wholly under Upgrade 3.0. There's been no tweaks by me since 4.0 came out nor has there been any report that there is a campaign crashing bug as a result of the upgrade.

Found this while trying to run down something else. Am posting it here (cover below) since it's roughly of the time frame of CMFI (almost wrote CMAK!). Not only does it have a wealth of material on the US & CW FA side of things, including some great combat anecdotes, but it has a most informative piece on German FA, in an article called "German Conduct of Fire."  From spot reading, I believe many of you will thoroughly enjoy this magazine overflowing with fascinating material, including things in the PTO.

It was @benpark who made the mod to differentiate the path in the editor. I have a zip file that says BENPARK EDITOR MODS. FYI it works in CMBN and CMFB. Not sure where I got it from - maybe from Benpark himself. Until Benpark drops in and point us in the right direction I've uploaded em to my dropbox if you want em:

CMFDR reacted to John Kettler in Sarthe, 1944 Histoire d'une Liberation
This is a book review one of the CoC guys, Matt Williamson, posted. Seemed eminently appropriate here. Covers push through Mayenne department through Sarthe to capture Le Mans and northward to close the Falaise pocket. What the reviewer describes the book to be has me licking my chops, but I'd need a translation app like I saw a guy use on his phone to read Russian MREs, since the book's in French. Looks like lots of grist for the mills of the CM scenario designers. Has 850 photos and 65 maps!

    "Book Review
    Sarthe, août 1944
    Histoire d’un Libération
    Fabrice Avoie
Recently while doing some research for battles around my house in August 1944 and the American breakout from Normandy through Brittany and Pays de Loire I kept coming across references to this book, so for Christmas I ordered it from the author, to my surprise Fabrice works in Mayenne and we scheduled a rendezvous at my home. Fabrice spent 15 years doing the research on the push from Mayenne department through Sarthe to capture Le Mans and then pushes South and finally the advance North to close the Falaise pocket. Fabrice attended several reunions in Germany, France and America receiving photos and anecdotes from the war from the remaining veterans. Published in French in 2009 it is loaded with information and Photos I have never seen before.
A good mix of German units are covered including day to day breakdowns and unit strengths; 9th Panzer, Panzer Lehr, 352nd Infantry Div, 708th Division, 91st infantry Division, 77th Infantry Division, Sicherungs regiment 1, Sicherungs regt 194, -195 and 196, 17th SS, 5th Fallschirmjager, Flak units and various retreating units and scratch batns.
Allied units include; US 5th Armoured, La 2nd division Blindee Francaise, US 79th Infantry Division, US 90th Infantry Division, US 80th Infantry Division, 106th US cavalry group. Very interesting research regarding the aviation units in the allied support role.
The Hard back 440 page book is well worth the 38 euros that I paid for it, although the text is in French it is a must for those interested in the southern flank of the Falaise pocket, lots of photos, small unit actions and after battle reports to wade through now!
    Cheers
    Matt"

CMFDR reacted to John Kettler in Sherman engines and more
This short video uses working examples of Shermans (inc a Firefly), an M10, even a Priest to depict the wide range of engines fitted and their distinctive acoustic signatures. It offers some great clips of the AFVs, OVM (external stowage of tools) and more. Some look like showroom vehicles, while others look like they're rigged for war, with lots of stuff piled on, draped, etc.

No worries! These battles are an essentially a blind quick battle. I took the qb map, added reasonable forces, and assigned them to an AI orders group. I changed very little if anything with the maps. I left the name of the quick battle map alone to give credit to the proper person who did most of the work on the battle. Any future ones I do, I will change the name and include the information in a breifing note.

According to IanL's Complete List of Combat Mission Scenarios that would be [Campaign Battle #01] Hitlers Bodyguard mission, and thanks to Rokko's uncam: Combat Mission campaign extractor, it's quite easy to get the mission file. Please note that Mad Mike's CMx2 ScAnCaDe V2.1 can do it too, as can Steinfisch's Combat Mission Universal Utility.

    @rocketman here it is attached.
