Sgt.Squarehead reacted to JohnO in Custom 3D Models and Mods Compilation
Not sure if I want to post here, reason, seems every time I post nobody else post afterwards
But I will see what happens. thanks to Aquila-CM and Sbobovyc, I've taking the plunge and try my hand in using Blender. At first I was cussing at the monitors but after awhile everything is working.
I use the M1064A3 MC and try to change it to just a M113 medic. Still not finished, still have work to do on the interior.
Have some ideas to work on and trying to add the M577 and M997 Medic vehicle.

I carried a radio and had a really fun day on the bombing range in Belize in 1988 as Captain Rencher controlled Harriers dropping ordnance. In 1966 Captain Rencher was known as Pte 'Pom' Rencher and was OC D Coy/6 RAR's signaller at Long Tan. An absolutely top bloke who I was privileged to meet and sadly passed away in 2016.

And some info from the Vietnamese side with period footage. There are 3 parts at least.

Yup that's the crux of it, one either compromises with ditchlocked clusters, which can work OK, but just won't for certain terrain, or one puts up with it deleting doors where possible to reduce the chances of it occurring.
Actually from what I recall of the map in question a couple of lengths of barbed wire outside the buildings in question might be the simplest and best option.

That was what got me.....I can't make a snapshot of the exact location right now, but I will once I'm back up & running (it was a few missions in, bottom of the hill in Stavelot I think).

By default, all rifle grenadiers carry two weapon models... the primary weapon with a dud GL & a GL with a dud primary weapon.
You don't notice the switch normally because both weapons models are visually identical.
I just changed the GL model to the imported M79 & then the primary small arm to our M16's... since yesterday I've changed the GP-30 sound too.
Job done.
@Aquila-CM had figured out that this could be done when he saw the weapons models too.

We seem to be at a bit of a misunderstanding here, I was genuinely unsure of whether you understood the campaign structure.....There is no requirement to limit the variations between scenarios to:
Are the scenarios available individually at all.....I'm guessing not, so it probably does come down to someone decompiling the campaign and looking.
PS - That isn't going to be me right now as the PC I'm using is fit for browsing only.....Its replacement, that I just spent three and a half grand on, is sitting, in boxes, on a pallet, in my living room and has to stay there for at least another 48hrs or so, which really isn't doing my mood very much good TBH.

Sgt.Squarehead got a reaction from Bulletpoint in Improvement suggestions
I did exactly the same with randomly generated CM1 maps and I feel pretty much the same about the idea of having random maps in CM2.....I can think of an awful lot of other things I'd rather see first (persistent map damage, reinforcement by trigger, duration limited occupy objectives, AI painted artillery targets that can be timed to arrive mid scenario, amongst many, many others).

You are making me want to start messing with Trumpton again.....Loads of your Chiraq City stuff would be useable.

Well Booties' new CMMODS 4 will have em. But, it may take a while to get that up and running.

Sgt.Squarehead reacted to MikeyD in Turkish Leopard 2A4 mod preview
Here's the Turkish G3 rifle in Dutch hands. the model borrowed from CM:Afghanistan and the texture reworked. It replaces the plain Dutch C7A1 (Canadian-made M16)

Here's my experiment to see if SF2 will replace the Dutch C7A1 (M16) model with the CM:Afghanistan FN.
It works! The weapon comes into the game as 5.56. Turkey might not actually field the old FN anymore but the model's close enough to the HK33E now in Turkish service for it to work if I retexture it. The texture in the pict is straight CM:Afghanistan.

The Turkish YPRs are finished, or at least close enough for rock & roll.
It should be a hint how close the title is to completion if I'm puttering around with 3rd party mods instead working like a slave to get things finished.

Making a scenario in CMBB is a completely different animal than making one in CMRT. It takes a lot more work and requires a lot more detail. You can probably make three or four scenarios in CMBB in the time it takes to make one in CMRT and the design challenges and limitations are different. If someone doesn't understand those limitations then that can lead to nonsensical statements if those statements are based on the way the old game works or are made without knowledge of the limitations of how the current editor works. I'm sure Jason means well, but he isn't really giving any useful feedback. What he is doing is saying that everything that ships with the game is historically inaccurate or is not representative of reality (no matter how well researched apparently). He then proceeds to tell us all the 'correct' way to make scenarios because nothing anyone makes seems to meet his standards or perception of what is 'correct' in his view. Well that isn't helping anyone because designers can't design scenarios that please everyone. That is an impossible task. Each release comes with scenarios designed by several different people who each has their own style and he can't seem to find any that suit his tastes. If he can't find any designers who make something that he likes then rather than spending his energy telling everyone about their failures in his eyes he could spend his time in a more productive way by creating stuff for the community.
There are several scenarios in the release that even have a listing of references included in the designers notes so when someone comes on here and says that nothing is accurate in spite of the research that went into the creation process it shouldn't be surprising if that rubs some the wrong way.

Sgt.Squarehead reacted to Sgt Joch in Hammer's Flank Crossing the River
well Jason, maybe you should actually research the history of the campaign before commenting.
map scale is correct for the force levels in that sector. This was one of the main axis of attack of the 11th Guards Army. German forces were relatively light in the area, since they did not think the Russians would attack in that type of terrain. German troop density is correct for that secor.
As to the fire support, yes that is a game restriction. The Soviet prep bombardement was up to 3 hours, obviously out of scale for a CM mission. The idea was to simulate the tail end of the bombardement and this was the most practical solution. I believe this is also stated in the designer notes?
I spent a lot of time researching this one, so if you have other comments I can swat away, please be my guest.

I am the one who designed mission 1. The map, opposing forces and defenses are all as close as possible to the historical situation on the morning of June 23rd as we could determine based on the historical records.
you don't like the scenario? I am sure the Russians and Germans who actually had to fight it in real life liked it even less.

Good choice!
But now we have to nag you to expand it some more.
Apparently wars in the middle east (& wider region) can go on rather longer than initially predicted.
