Oddities & Weird In-game Stuff (O&WIS)
Sgt.Squarehead replied to Erwin's topic in Combat Mission - General Discussion
I've never seen pecisely this either TBH.....I've seen trees interfere with direct fire quite dramatically, paticularly auto-cannons laying waste to friendly units by hitting nearby tree-trunks with HE. But the tree always seems to go away after a shell or two has hit it (although I've never checked the map to see if it actually does). Moving on, your Point 9: Appears to be a specific case of Point 20: So that's another one off the list. -
Welcome to 2021!

Yeah, because the 17pdr fired an early sabot round, but if it hit at those ranges it would still penetrate.....The 76mm not so much. -

Do they all get the muzzle brake? Hoping not. -
Just ideas at the moment, but if we proceed with anything tangible for CM:FI you will be among the first to hear.....Count on it! I was underway with something but I had my, to date single, fatal file issue.....The map crashed and the saved file refused to reload. But it was 4km on a side with a mountain range running through it, so perhaps I was being a little over-ambitious.

AI plans and a more responsive AI
Sgt.Squarehead replied to Freyberg's topic in Combat Mission - General Discussion
That could do it.....The AI doesn't know what's in each group and thus they might be given impossible orders (vehicles through heavy woods etc.). Just a thought. -
If you play the stock sceanrios & campaigns there's a fair chance it's one of theirs.....They're just very modest about it.

Oddities & Weird In-game Stuff (O&WIS)
Sgt.Squarehead replied to Erwin's topic in Combat Mission - General Discussion
No. To reiterate: As these images clearly demonstrate, your statement: Is patently incorrect. What you may have discovered is a specific issue with UK forces.....But that's not what you wrote, is it? -

Oddities & Weird In-game Stuff (O&WIS)

You tested one scenario, my first, over five years ago and you haven't stopped bleating about it since. Haven't noticed much output from you in the meantime, other than more bleating and threads like this one pointing out errors that often don't actually exist. -
I noticed this while testing 'Winter of Disconent' for CM:A.....Lee Enfield equipped Tribals firing from buildings were wreaking boody murder on any units that ran straight towards them in the open, at some surprisingly long ranges (fairly sure they played big part in picking off my DShK & SPG-9 crews too). Return fire from my largely AK-47 equipped Mujahideen was hopelessly inefectual.....So I brought up a tank!

No, I just don't believe in nagging about something like this.....It'll be ready when it's ready, or it won't. Nothing we type here will make the slightest difference.

I've owned the CM games for decades and I doubt I've played 50% of the available content.....Happy to wait.

That sort of thing sounds more like @Combatintman's field.....I don't even know what some of those words mean! My stuff tends to be a bit more freeform.....But you will need a plan and good communicatons. I'd second that recommendation, it will help you to get the most out of Iron mode and provide you with a good base set of rules to work from when deciding how your units should react to the information they have.

I know you like CM:SF2 and you seem to be very interested in realistic game play, comms & C2.....I have something in the works that you might enjoy (and that you might be able to help me with). It's a bit stalled at the moment as I'm having to reimport all the units (there are many, but they are very, very small), but that doesn't actually effect any of the AI scripting that I've done.....I'll ping you a PM in due course if that's OK.

Never made much sense to me either TBH.

How to use BMPs? They're a funny shape!
Sgt.Squarehead replied to THH149's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 2
And that's why everybody loved the Jeep. -
If I were to say that very idea is under review & active discussion amongst the H&E team, would you be interested in joining in? I'm hoping to use CM:FI for 1950s-60s pseudo-South America. @MOS:96B2P has plans for mercenary stuff in Africa. & @37mm is considering WWII SEAC & Pacific theatre mods. I'd prefer to go the fictional/semi-historical route again rather than attempting to model anything from WWII.....CM players know their TOEs too well for an attempt at a historical game to be convincing (IMHO). PS - CM WWI was also briefly discussed.....Very, very tempted by that!

You really are immersing yourself.....Kudos!

Optionally fake up a demo, hire Keanu Reeves and call it a good 'un!

Camera Group Commands and Tab(s)
Sgt.Squarehead replied to KGBoy's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
@KGBoy.....You are kind of missing the point of the contact markers (this is what Iron mode is all about). The tank shouldn't direct fire at that location (or anywhere else it doesn't have a contact marker) because it doesn't know anything is there. You (and whatever units can see the gun) know of its existence but the tank doesn't.....In order for the tank to fire that information needs to be communicated to it, either by radio or by just sending a dude and telling the crew (open the tank up). If you want simple, you are playing the wrong games.....CM isn't and it isn't meant to be TBH. -

Wot 'e said! Just typing an '@' followed by any letter should bring up a dropdown with suggested forum ID's. -
Very far from it fella.....Seriously, I'm mostly just a tweaker of existing things. If you want to understand the intricacies of AI scripting, @MOS:96B2P's probably your man. @Combatintman & @MikeyD are the guys I take advice from on practical scenario design.....Whether you know it or not, you have very probably played and enjoyed their product countless times already. If you want a truly beautiful map with a scenario scripted to perfection, you won't go far wrong with anything made by @George MC. All of these guys (and many others I haven't given a shout to) have helped me in the past.....I'm pretty confident they'd answer any questions you might have too. TBH you can learn a lot from their work by just opening the scenario editor and seeing what they've done, then running the scenario in 'Scenario Author Test' mode to see how those scripts translate into action in the 3d environment.....If nothing else it will give you some perspective on what it takes to build a decent scenario. That said, the scripting you will see is the finished product.....Not the (n+) earlier iterations that didn't quite work how the designer wanted (each of which had to be tested, multiple times, to discover that fact)!

Sgt.Squarehead's CM:SF2 Stuff
Sgt.Squarehead replied to Sgt.Squarehead's topic in CM Shock Force 2 Maps and Mods
Apparently my CM maps are too small! Do you see the little 'village' on the horizon here: That would be Bishr: They can take quite a while to finish off for some reason.....I must be slow or something. PS - Full Disclosure.....I didn't make the basic map, it was done by some crazy genius for CM:SF1 (and left with a note saying he'd run out of steam and hoped someone would finish it off, so I am).....My hat is off to him.
