Hi fellas. On the phone for several hours. neighbors, police, churches, apartment manager, etc.
The bad news is he was reported to have been injured in some type of motor vehicle accident back around March the officer said.
Then he went to a convalescent hospital but they are unable to tell me anything other than "not listed as a resident at this time"...
Good news: property manager finally answered my 2nd call and she says he is doing well and she'll give him my number to call me.

umlaut got a reaction from Rinaldi in Bailey Bridge Mod
    Bailey Bridge Mod:
Some time ago someone on this forum asked for modders to create a "Bailey Bridge mod". Back then I looked into it and replied that I didn´t think it would be possible to mod one of the existing CM bridges into something resembling a Bailey Bridge. My main reasons for saying so was the shape of the existing bridges in CM. As you probably know we modders can only change the appearance - surface - of the vehicle, bridge etc. Not their actual shape.

But the idea must have been lurking in the back of my mind since then. And since then I have gained some experience in getting around the constraints that the game imposes on us modders. Mainly by creative use of alpha channels and making mods by using additional flavor objects. So I recently decided to give it a try.
Just gave it a quick stress test by sending a Crocodile across. As you can see, it didn´t collapse

What I have done is this:
Modded the "bridge-stone-2-lane" bridge to change its appeance from stone to steel. I´ve also used alpha channels to make parts of the original bridge transparent.

Used the hull of the sdkfz 251d-10 to create a new flavor object resembling a pontoon. The object is called hardcart3.

You create the illusion of a Bailey Bridge by placing a "Stone W" bridge ("Stone 56 W" is  probably best) on the map - along with some hardcart3 flavor object. In 3D Preview mode you then place the "pontoons" (sdkfz 251d-10 hulls) next to the bridge. There are some elevation requirements too, but I´ll get back to those later.

The result is not perfect: The alpha channels do not always create the intended tranparency and the shape of the bridge - and pontoons aren´t exactly like a real Bailey Bridge´s. But this is the closest I am able to get.

The mod is almost finished and ready for release, but I´ve decided to wait a bit in order to collect comments/advice/suggestions from you knowledgable forumites.
Perhaps there are some details that could be improved before release, though I don´t think it will be possible to change the actual shape of the bridge.

I guess the length determines the number of crows it will accommodate. But I´m not sure I want to know about the drinks being served there...

I'll probably make a new version of my Tiger II mod at some stage, but I'm not sure when.

I have no plans to do the Tiger I, as I've never modded that one before and Aris already has made it.

I wont be modding the vehicles that Aris has already made, as I consider this a waste of time when there are still lots of unmodded vehicles in the games. I'll focus on those.

The Nashorns and StuGs were exceptions because they were "biproducts" of other mods (Hummel and hungarian StuG) and thus the modding work had already been done in another context.

umlaut reacted to ASL Veteran in Maps in briefings not aligned north
The slot in the editor for the various pictures of the briefing maps has a specified maximum size and that size is not square but rather rectangular in shape, although it varies from briefing pic map to briefing pic map.  The pictures can run left to right for approximately twice as far as up and down IIRC.  With this limitation in mind, if your battle map is longer north to south than it is east to west and you don't rotate the picture for the briefing, then the briefing map will look squashed and will be less useful to the player.

Well, some of them require the Vehicle Pack - others dont. Some Market Garden or Commonwealth modules.

The Flak 38, the U304´s and possibly the Hummel are from the vehicle pack. The Nashorn shouldn´t have been in this thread as it is only available in CMFI and CMRT. But Jorge MC brought them up, so I thought, I´d show them here.

The short answer is: If you have the vehicle in your game, then you can use the mod.

umlaut reacted to AttorneyAtWar in Photo of destroyed Iraqui M1A1M
This is where I am conflicted, on one hand I think its great that we pulled our forces out of Iraq, but I understand the argument and agree that it also caused militants to pretty much ruin it again. However, directly blaming Obama for it is pretty silly considering we all know who got us into the war in the first place and how. I think the question becomes how long do you want us to stay there even while the countries government was asking us to leave a few years ago. Having a garrison in Iraq isn't like having one in Korea, servicemen are still going to be killed and if the Iraqi's aren't going to fight for themselves after all the equipment, training and money they received from us the entire time we were there, why should we stay?

Edit: I say conflicted but I lean way more to leaving completely, I figured I should say that.

Next set is the StuG IIIG Late

As I was making a weathered hungarian StuG for Kohlenklau´s hungarian Red Thunder project I might as well make a  german version too.

The set contains four different paint options (including a weathered version of the original Battlefront camo). Choosen ONE of the four.

This set is identical to the german StuG for CMRT (so no need to download both)

I agree with every answer from the posters above
    - but would like to stress one thing:

CM will give you far more gaming time that most other games: I bought CMBN at the release in 2011 and got the every module/pack after that. And I am still far from having played every scenario I have on my hard drive, probably only one third of them.

In terms of gaming hours per dollar, Combat Mission is the cheapest game I ever bought. Seriously.

Actually, I hadn´t planned to make any Nashorn mods, as Aris has already released a very fine Nashorn. But a few days ago I released a Hummel mod for CMBN, and since the files are almost identical I figured I might as well convert the Hummel into a Nashorn as well.

The other benefit is to BFC and these forums.  Can you imagine the threads we would have if units with no ammo left were magically still firing because they had access to shared ammo but there was no indication of it

    rocketman,

All I've seen are trailers, which were more than enough to convince me this is Moby Dick set in a ludicrous GPW armored warfare context. Any doubts on this score should be resolved by the presence of a gleaming white Tiger 1 under seasonal conditions clearly not winter or even early spring. One review I saw called it, and rightly so, "Moby Dick on tracks." The movie looks cool, and it's always good to see actual period AFVs, uniforms and weapons (have PTSD from the visual disaster of a film called "Battle of the Bulge). Have fun with the movie you asked about!  I really want to see "1944," which also has real GPW Russian AFVs, plus other goodies, and what appears to be an amazing plot.

umlaut reacted to MOS:96B2P in CM:BN Screenshot Thread #2
Red, there are several ways to get a screenshot.  I assume you will also want to post the screenshots here in the forum.  Below is the way I take and post screenshots.

Capture a screen shot with FRAPS  (There is a free version)
Save in Paint as a jpeg file
    Crop if you want
    Save and name

Sign in to photobucket   (Free version)
    Click on the upload button
Navigate to the location of the photo  (normally on the desktop)
Drag the photo into the photo bucket area that says “Drag here”
(You can use photo bucket tools to get different effects if you want.)
Click on IMG tag to the right of the photo to copy the photo

    Go to the forum
Paste the photo into the narrative box
    The URL will appear
Preview it and the photo will appear (Click more reply options)

    Some tips for screenshots:
Shift / esc pauses the game without the word PAUSED across the screen
Alt / I toggles off unit icons
Alt / h toggles off hit text
Alt / j toggles off objectives

Hope this helped.  Have fun and lets see some screenshots.
