  1. UN tanks did horrible at first. The majority of them for some reason were m24 chaffees and shermans vs T34. The T-34 reigned supreme. Weren't many Pershings to begin with in the conflict, and they had reliability issues, their use was suspended. And the Pattons came much later.
  2. Often wondered if hiding my sniper behind a log or stump will absorb that incoming bullet. If so, are flavor objects different, a cement pillar gives more protection than the haystack. I would expect so, but never observed how this works.
  3. Verry Interestink....Well it stands to reason they were conscripts right? Probably soiled their trousers, and spilled the beans to the enemy.
  4. I read this biography a long time ago. he mentions very little of the Holocaust, or the SS for that matter because it seems he didn't cross paths with it as a support soldier and later when he transfers to the GD division. Having a German mother/French father and being only 16 at the start he didn't even have a grasp on the politics. The atrocities he witnessed and describes were committed by the military police and usually against the Wehrmacht soldier as a form of summary execution. So as a movie this would probably avoid some issues completely. As for the OP, Our mother/Our father movie.... it suffers from little world syndrome big time. WW2 takes place only in Poland and the Wehrmacht consists of 150 guys and 1 field hospital where everybody's paths cross.
  5. Can't you actually see where the rounds come from tho. If you look at the POI you can see the rounds before they hit the ground. If you pan the camera back from the impact you can visually trace the origin and watch the rounds lobbing in. I think that being the case mortar rounds should be invisible in flight.
  6. I just finished watching the series. It was not a BOb, but still a good drama, some good action in the second episode. But not in the war flic sense. It does not make excuses for why the characters did what they did. Just that they played their part. The backdrop and uniforms were very authentically done so bonus points there.
  7. don't know if you are into doing variations, I would like to see one with just the earthen bases textured like grass and weeds especially at the base. That cam net pattern on the bags is nice too, was popular with the brits I think.
  8. The more I read about GL the more I like. 4 seasons and new units. besides its not an overdone theatre, something different.
  9. There are other games that have similarity to CM2x. One of these does that very formation thing. I will say though that troops don't last very long when sticking to a formation in these games. There is always the guy on the outside who ends up in the open. In CMFI the troops tend to position well by groupings and have a knack for finding good cover most of the time. Especially as centre of axis changes, and terrain. I suppose to have the option to turn formations on or off would be a good thing. But i would play without them.
  10. If you move a unit close to them with high leadership it might calm them down a little. They can still be useful as security in a static defence role. Hold the shift key down and draw a box around them to move them as a single unit.
  11. Well the US 30 cal teams seem to be heckaffective now. they can actually fix and lay down some solid fire on squads. I always found them not worth their weight before.
  12. Just plain awesome to come home from work and read this. Like some kind of computer game darwin theory, this game just keeps evolving.
  13. Its great when forward observers can remain hidden, call in a full area target and not be discovered. the Hide command works for this, provided the FO team are in bushes or tall grass. Their relative view is not obstructed, because a Hide command causes the team to go to ground. Unfortunately if they are behind a wall they will be obstructed if hiding.
  14. Actually the individual soldiers and vehicles are much better modelled in CMFI than CoD. Where CoD may look better are certain things like buildings, bridges, water, and ground. But CoD maps are really puny too.
  15. I had a Coy XO team (in CFMI) that had a radio, but they could not relay the fire mission from the FO team. I had to get the XO team to switch places with the FO team and the fire mission was enabled, but 4min instead. I think there needs to be a little refinement based on how many active nets are in use. Sure sticking another platoon's HQ may be beyond their ability especially if they are from another Coy, but in a single company scenario the HQ and XO teams would be on a company net with the FO and Coy mortars.
  16. I would like to see a marine commando version with berets using the Denison Smocks
  17. Would this also refer the the gun hydraulic mechanisms as well. Maybe if the mantlet takes a solid hit this would damage the gun stabs, not just the barrel, also the optics as well which is another category, and give the gunner raccoon eyes.
  18. A feeble attempt at getting a thread locked. Just bring up race and politics.
  19. Its fair game to take original in-game scenario content and alter it and then release it as a mod, or even as another battle. Thats what the scenario editor is for. If you think people may like your scenario modifications, then they would be happy to download it. Just be descriptive in your posting as people like to have information before the dl. If you are taking a posted mod, or someone else's after market scenario and altering it, it may be best to be considerate and get permission from the originator first. Some people are possessive of their work, although its not like its enforced if you rip it off and call it your own. OTOH Some folks consider their work open domain.
  20. Just want to add the German's weren't the only ones using AAA in the ground support role. The Canadians had an organic Bofors regiment the 3LAA used in the fighting around Caen to Falaise. They were called upon to support many assaults into built up areas. Then attached 2 guns per infantry battalion.
  21. I played this again as I seemed to recall it was well done scenario. You would think the Puma would be the better vehicle with its closed top and 5cm gun versus 37mm open vehicle. But this can be a closed in pistol fight and the 37mm is a quick draw gun. The puma is accurately portrayed as a slower loading, and slower target acquisition vehicle. Spoiler hint maybe: The map is not small and if you hang back a bit the range may be to the puma's advantage, but the weather negates that as well. It is true the crews are low leadership which also seems to slow down target acquisition, don't know for sure but that is the impression.
  22. Don't worry, its just another zombie Apocolypse. Not the solar flare wayward asteroid comet thingy type
  23. The TOW series is one example where data files were converted to usable spread sheets and things like weapons data could be altered, even nationalities for certain weapons and so much more you could do with these files. But when it came to multiplayer it would just do a bit count and if the numbers didn't match then punt. TOW2 btw was extremely tedious to locate files, then unpak and open them. Many people gave up. But once all the hoops were jumped through the sky was the limit.
  24. What I find a little odd about making that off limits, is there are things like check encoding as the typical, or one method, used for ensuring players have matching data files before going head to head. I recall playing more than a few other games where I'd link up just to get that failed data file message. It was usually a case of "sorry i forgot i had that machine gun ROF mod". or something like that. Probably not an easy thing to shoe horn into an already existing game I would suspect.
  25. Similar to the LCVP discussion. Gliders and wrecked landing craft, it seems the para drops and beach assaults were forgone conclusions and development resources had to be applied to other areas. Well maybe in the third generation we will see them.
