  1. I think France would have declared they WOULD use nukes if the Soviets approached the French Border. We'll never know but a possible NATO strategy might have been let's not go with first use, as a nuking Germany to save it would be unappealing, but rather let the Warsaw Pact offensive run it's course with what ever percent of Germany captured, then remain on a war footing until the Soviet economy collapses trying to do so as well. Other Warsaw Pact countries might try to defect in such a situation.
  2. Not sure exactly what you mean? BAOR = British Army of the Rhine.
  3. Well since we're dreaming. I think a natural progression would be: 1. US Seventh vs Soviet Group of Forces Germany 2. Germans East and West. 3. BAOR and 4th Canadian MBG maybe with Czechoslovakians, or Poles. Nukes and Chemical weapons would be a non-starter. Too much code for too little use for what most players think makes CM games great, no matter how likely they may or may not have been in the real thing.
  4. Sublime, please elaborate. IIRC the Shillelagh missiles were the main round armament. Are you saying after one shot the aiming system was off? You said totally off. Does that mean useless?
  5. I can tell you the 2nd Cav got it's Sheridans replaced by M-60s in 1978 as I saw it happen at my base in Bamberg. I would assume 11th Cav, the unit that would actually screen Fulda Gap did too.
  6. A brief aside if I may. Wikipedia says the M1 Abrams entered service in 1980 and the M2 Bradley in 1981. When however were they first delivered to combat units in Germany?
  7. As I recall yes. Again I make no claim to infallible memory.
  8. The only way I see CM:Afghanistan re-done is the same way it got made in the first place: A Third party finances and does almost all the work.
  9. Well these are the subjects I recall Steve saying they would never do ( Of course my memory is far from perfect): Arab-Israeli Wars. WWII Pacific Anything Naval Anything where cavalry was common. A war that never occurred (hence Fulda Gap).
  10. As I recall, Steve once said Battlefront was not interested in doing a game on something that never happened. Now some of you will say CMSF never happened, but at the time it was developed the setting was still in the future , so CMSF has been, as they say, "Grandfathered in" as an exception now. Black Seas is also still a future setting. Any way I just wanted to enquire if Battlefront's position on NATO vs Warsaw Pact has not changed and is likely to never be in the cards. There is still a lot to do for the existing families and completing the Ost Front after all which is a desire for Battlefront. And can I call for a bit of restraint in posting your favorite setting wish in this thread please?
  11. Hi, I want to try adding an ocean background sound. I found these are the specs required (Thanks Mord!) Any suggestion for a program I could get to see if the wav files meet these specs? Thanks, PCM 44.1000 Khz 16 bit mono
  12. This is silly. Every one knows it's New Zealand that doesn't really exist which is why its left off so many World maps.
  13. Not sure but possibly because not all US infantry/Marines were issued had night vision goggles in 2008? I'm sure not all Syrian infantry had them.
  14. I just love that Battlefront has been around for 18 years (since release of CMBO, I know they were around before developing it) and continues to produce the Combat Mission line when they could have done other things, probably for more money. I have never been in combat but nothing else comes close to providing the, to me, realistic immersion that Combat Mission has. Perhaps the dogfight sims would but I don't play those. I prefer time to think, which may be unrealistic I suppose. The shooters certainly do not provide the realism to me.
  15. Chris ND (AKA Normal ) dude had a very clever mission in his CMSF II Airborne Campaign (I can't recall the exact name ATM). You had to reach a blue spy and escort him to safety through a dense urban map as he had some important intel . You had a limited number of men and never knew where the insurgents would pop up. I've considered asking for permission to update the campaign for CMSF2 beyond what the editor "translator" will do but I want to see how much work is involved once the new game comes out before committing.
  16. We don't know, and only Steve (and Charles who hasn't posted in several years) have the right to release info on the game without breaking a ND aggreement. From what I see on Wikipedia the timeframe fits and Aladdin and Raven are similar enough that they may have just given the games German forces the Raven and just called it the Aladdin, though strictly speaking the Aladdin is faster but with less endurance. It's also possible know one thought of it and it's now too late to add.
  17. What is MSV ? My google-fu could not determine what it was.
  18. Steve has time to post. Shock Force 2 must be really close!
  19. Good point. But we can confirm, at least, the Raven is recon only as far as all I've read on Wikipedia, right?
