  1. The camerman seems to have had a bizarre fascination with the wheels and tracks, eh? Lots of shots showing only those! Maybe trying to give impression of scary size or something. On the topic of turning, have you actually timed some of those shots we've seen? What were the results (degrees turn per second)? Do films of that age actually "play" at the right speed? They always look fast and jerky to me, so any timing that you do would need to take that into account, right? Ta, GaJ
  2. (edit: I misunderstood: first I thought Kingfish meant he couldn't read the post. But then I realised what he means is he can't post his well wishes at BoB. I will pass them along. Dunno why KF isn't an honourary member anyhow!) And just in case, here is the text of Jeff's message. [ April 14, 2007, 01:05 AM: Message edited by: GreenAsJade ]
  3. If you've played CM for a while you've heard of jwxspoon. Right now he and his wife need your prayers. jwxspoon's news Regards, GaJ
  4. Actually, a red line specifically means that it not only sees it but intends to shoot at it (IE is aiming at it). Units can see each other without you seeing a red line (otherwise there would be more than one red line from each unit!)
  5. All the die-hard CM fans have moved to other places. If you too are a die-hard CM fan you know where these are GaJ
  6. Covered arcs don't force things to fire at things inside the arc, they only prevent them from firing at things outside the arc. If your MGs didn't think it was a good idea to fire right now with the arc off, then they still won't fire with the arc on. Maybe the units are too far away? Or not spotted by that MG? GaJ
  7. CM doesn't explicitly model "Mahlzeit" orientation explicitly (IE some code that says "if angle is 15 degrees then survive better). It simply models correct penetration percentage chance based on angle of incidence of the shot. I have never seen CM tankers face their hull off-angle from the threat that they are dealing with. That's what the "rotate" command can do for you, but I haven't seen the AI do it without such a command. GaJ
  8. What's so hard about signing up for WeBoB anyhow? There are willing sponsors all over the place, who will return your email within hours, and you'll be playing a game right away. Then the membership process chugs away, but it doesn't get in your way. GaJ
  9. Wierd eh? I've had what you are seeing, but I thought it corresponded to low memory times, and it got fixed when I rebooted.
  10. I think you've run out of memory. Wierd things happen then. Try rebooting and see if its still like that. I've seen similar and rebooting fixed it... GaJ
  11. Hmmm - he said "no other problems, but I haven't played a game yet". So maybe there are other problems?!
  12. The first one was backup up by a supposed screen shot. It could as easily have been doctored for a boast, or be the result of a CM bug as being a real hack. But that hack is theoretically possible, though a lot of work By comparison the second one would be astonishing, for the amount of work it would involve. The third one is in a different league. I reckon it happens as often as someone pinches lollies from the charity box that has an honour system. It's just too easy. That's why it's called *trust*ed mode. Luckily the defense is equally easy: don't play in trusted mode unless you really trust the person (and yourself)! GaJ
  13. All this is great ... if you are the overall commander. I'm wondering if there's some idea that one person will be playing the high level battle ... the overall commander ... and other players will be playing the CMBB battlers. In this case, do you really want to be thrown into a total loss? GaJ
  14. Walpurgis Nacht advises you to drive forwards with a good portion of your defense force... effectively "scouting", but more than that stalling the attacker each time they bump into you. Scout forward, make contact (with overwatch): stall the attacker ... then pull back before they can mass fire on you. Repeat till you are back at your main line of defense (foxholes, cover etc). By that time you should know where there main line of attack is coming, and have a massed your forces to hit there. Generally speaking, you can't just deploy your forces statically across the map/flags and hope to win, because you will be spread to thin. The exception to this is very small QBs with only one flag and not much width ... in that case it might just be "hit go" ... play bigger battles Play scenarios GaJ
  15. Sorry I haven't gathered this from what I've read: is CMC primarily intended as: a 2 player game (IE each player does the strategic and CM games for his side) or is it a kind of team thing? We've been setting up a manual campaign that is kind of a team thing, though the CM game players aren't tied to a team. We've bumped into the issue that if the commanders are doing a good job, then the CM battles will be one-sided. Who wants to play one-sided battles? Not many. OTOH, if the battles are generally going to be balanced (by any mechanism you can think of) then the strategic game is largely irrelevant. (Since no matter what the high level commander does, he can't gain an advantage for his side). Comments? GaJ
  16. Just on the off chance: you're not running Google Desktop are you? CM gets unbareably slow when I have GD running... I think it's a bad interaction between GD trying to determine if it should pop up and the CM graphical window. GaJ
  17. Over at We Band Of Brothers Ardem has just set up a CM Campaign, with the intention of it moving along quickly based on TCP play. There's a stratetic level war going on, with anyone (while positions are open) able to take the role of "commander" and direct battalions on the strategic map. The strategic game is managed by Ardem using TOAW for the FOW mechanics. When battles are joined they are posted and anyone can play them (TCP). The result of their game determines the outcome of that battle. The first games are underway... come and join the fun. GaJ (yes you do need to be a member of WeBoB, but that's easy and has lots of benefits anyhow, so no problems )
  18. I reckon that many people keep their eyes on Mod announcements here, and download them if they look good. That's how we got to the point where many people don't have this problem, but newer people do. Have you politely asked COG if he'd consider adding ratings numbers to mods? That'd be one think to think about. However, at the moment mods are really rated by their number of downloads. Have you considered checking that out? McMMM supports the concept of "Mod Sets", including the ability to download all the specified mods from CMMODS in one go. No-one ever really used that feature. Maybe if you came up with the list of must-have mods I'd create mod-set definitions for them in McMMM and we'd see if anyone goes for it. GaJ
  19. McMMM works. 2000+ users tells me this must be true If you are having a problem, drop me a line with a description. If you have suggestions about how to improve the documentation, let me know. No point in getting cranky without even asking for help! Cheers, GaJ
  20. Or try McMMM as an alternative - doesn't have the frills of CMMOS, but should be simpler... GaJ
  21. Or of course you can use McMMM to manage your mods... designed specifically for CM, and available at CMMODS (under IBM/PC Mod Managers). GaJ
  22. Geez - it was an interesting discussion till you guys started trolling each other. Lay off will you? (FWIW ... I thought civdiv's original post was fine, but people take thing differently.) GaJ
  23. Oh, don't forget McMMM, which you find under "IBM/PC Mod Managers" at CMMODS. GaJ
  24. The problem is it depends what you want. There are GBs and GBs of fantastic mods, and plenty of "must be good for someones" mods. If you want the best of everything, you need to: Get all MikeyD's tanks (and anything else) Get all AndrewTF's uniforms Get Tarkus Interface mods. Get Malakovski's Dusty Bomb Get JuJus gun mods (it seems to be called MODSLITSMACK_JUJU on mu drive). If you want playing aids, you should get RocketMan/GreenAsJade gridded high contrast terrains. Get the other GreenAsJade High Contrast components (Arid Rocks, Barbed Wire) Get GreenAsJade's Smooth-Inside-Schonhult-Crater Find the ETO set of terrain mods to completely change everything to the Euorpean Theatre. Geez, that's just off the top off my head, and totally insults lots of mod authors by not mentioning them! GaJ
