  1. What on earth the difference between a blue bar going for a minute or a movie going for a minute is... is beyond me. I guess that's why BTS is ignoring all this "we don't have WEGO" nonsense. The hilarous that on one hand people are saying "bring back the blue bar, because it would go faster" and on the other hand they are saying "allow more time for calculation than one minute because we want better TacAI" Geez - make up your mind! Complain about somethign that make sense ... there are plenty of things to choose from. Inanely saying "we don't have WeGo" is just ... inane. GaJ
  2. Terrain shading or gridded terrain ... need somefink... I agree with Rollstoy: I recall some hope being given that terrain shading would make it, though it may have been very early speculation.
  3. Yeah - the funny thing is you can see those but not necessarily see how they solve what you want to do (like it didn't occur to me till after I started asking... that "zoom" serve the purpose that "scale" used to serve) GaJ
  4. Wow x2 That's what I'm talking about! Funny how zoom in that sense was pretty useless in CMx1, but here, combined with mousing the camera angles and height, it rocks! Little by litte my sense of immersion & control returns
  5. I thought that terrain shading was one of those "yay at last" things that CMSF was going to bring? The desert is the hardest place to see contours nicely without decent shading...
  6. Is there no way to "stay where I am" (same camera angle, same elevation, same location) but increase the zoom?
  7. Is there some way to "Zoom" the unit scale, so I can see what's over there in the distance? In CMx1 there was "C". This allowed for more immersive play because you could be watching from your unit's vantage point, and see "what the gunner is seeing through the sights" ... IE a magnified version of what's off in the distance. In CMSF so far I can only see floating icons: how do I get that "I know what's going on" experience? (Which is possibly less realist, I'll readily admit: probably these days the commanders are just seeing icons on the screen. But so far I find myself longing to see what that thing is!) 8. How do I make my tanks "do what I tell them". IE In the demo, I select the second tank from the right and give it a uttlerly straight ahead order to the hill in the distance, with a "Hunt" order... ... it reliably turns about 45 degrees right and heads off that way (*). At first I thought it was responding to threats that appear immediately, but actually it seems to make that move even before the threats are spotted. In CMx1 units would only do TacAI driven moves in extreme circumstances (such as being ordered somewhere they physically can't go, or being severely beaten up). Is there a command for that here? Or are we more at the mercy of the TacAI than before? GaJ *: Note - this is completely reproducible. It's be interesting to have some understanding of why it happens. 9. How can I tell what the terrain is at a given point while plotting moves? EG I know I want to plot to "the side of that hill over there". I CMx1 the spot under the cursor tells me if its rocky or anything else nasty. How do I achieve that with CMSF? (Short of moving over there and looking closely, then moving back to the view from my tank, then trying to figure out where it was I was pointing at).
  10. This is what I see too: if my guy is deciding to fire at someone, there is no targetting line (unlike CMx1). So if I'm watching an enemy unit (selected) and see fire coming in from my group over on the horizon, how to I quickly tell which one (of mine) it is that's shooting? In CMx1 I just follow the red line... and CMx1 tells me (anyhow, on the screen, who it is and how far they are away). GaJ
  11. That's what I'd have thought. Since you say it is so, I'll have to go and have another look, but it didn't seem to be the case. I mean during playback in WEGO mode BTW. Thanks. GaJ
  12. How can I get it to show me the orders of more than just the selected unit? How can I plot one tank to arrive next to another if I can't see the movement order I gave the other tank while I'm plotting this one?
  13. Ah - I moved away from Basic almost straight away (and FWIW I don't recommend starting with Basic, because it doesn't show you some of the neat new features, leaving you with a less-than-best impression compared to CMx1) I'll have to check whether I see that circle in Vet.
  14. Is it true that I can't move a waypoint once I've set it (I can't figure out how)? What's the rationale? What's the expected player behaviour (for those of us that used to plot a long movement then adjust each turn as things unfold).
  15. This probably is a general question rather than a converting one, but anyhow: what's that big yellow circle that appears when I click an enemy unit? And can I turn it off?
  16. It strikes me there must be a pile of questions that will come up time and again as people try to convert. I had a look for some of mine and didn't see them, but there's a pile of posts. Maybe we can collect them here. It also occured to me that some guidance about how to get started from CMx1 perspective is a good idea. Here is my suggestion: 1) Go straight to the tank demo, don't do the basic training. The basic training is a let-down. 2) Go straight to Vet mode, don't do Basic. You'll want to see relative spotting in action, and Basic doesn't support it. 3) DO read about how to control the camera, and be ready for it to be different to CMx1. It's really worth a bit of effor there. There's only half a page to read of that. 4) DO read about Relative Spotting. It's too confusing to try to figure it out on the screen: again, just one page of reading will get you over the hump. It's neat! Ok, now here's one question to start: How can I tell if my unit is targetting an enemy unit? IE Where did the targetting line go? [ July 31, 2007, 03:07 AM: Message edited by: GreenAsJade ]
  17. FFS! Here we are discussing tactics of what a whole 2 available scenarios in the world? What do you think we're going to be discussing? It's not as if those scenarios are even that complex or tricky or full of surprises. They are learning excercises. "Spoiler Alert" indeed !!
  18. You are right I didn't notice that, and it's sweet. A good move! On to things I miss: I miss the way that the camera zoom number keys kept you in the same place. IE if I select a unit, and tab at level 2 I can see the unit. In CMx1, if I go 3-4-5 I can still see the unit. In CMSF I cant. Similarly, tab (lock to to the unit) should always be a view in which I can see the unit. Otherwise its very disorienting. GaJ
  19. I think MR has answered this question well over at TSD. I share some of DT's frustration in terms of the language used to describe reinforcements, but I don't agree that the detailed contents of reinforcements or the timing has to be specific. GaJ. PS: I totally agree that reinforcements coming in full view of enemy is the pits. I'm in a scenario right now where a single Sherm reinf of mine arrive basically on top of an enemy tank. Gah! 20. You should talk to Ardem79 at We Band Of Brothers ... he has something like that set up. GaJ
  21. Woo hoo I'm glad I bought XP with my new laptop! Faster, less battery consumption, and.... CMAK runs on it!!!
  22. Care to share why? Were we spamming, identity stealling, address seeking, fake-website bastards, as CapitainBly fears? GaJ
  23. ROFL. Also so I have someone to argue with all the time over at WeBoB GaJ
  24. Sure, but why would we bother? If you'd done your homework, you'd have found that every one of those members has reported a game in the last 3 months in the club database, or has been spoken for in some other way. It's real. (Geez, if it was fake we _would_ have chosen 3000 instead of 240!) But it's not there to convince you, it's an opportunity for you. You don't believe? You don't like? ... not our problem GaJ
