  1. Or check out one of the "CM Clubs", where lots of people enthusiastically play head to head. (the opponents-finder at TSD is a nice concept, but populated with too many silent names). A great club is We Band Of Brothers (not the only one by any means, but a good one!) GaJ [ November 19, 2006, 01:52 AM: Message edited by: GreenAsJade ]
  2. This is a similar concept to my "High Contrast" terrain mods. The top shot is with the mod, the bottom is without. (The top shot is blurry not due to the mod, but just because I was trying to keep the file size down! Hopefully you get the idea anyhow... it looks better in real life ) These are available for all CMAK terrains (I think!) at CMMODS. GaJ [ November 14, 2006, 10:56 PM: Message edited by: GreenAsJade ]
  3. Congrats, and this one was fine too. I giggled. You could even have left the last frame off... it didn't take much imagining GaJ
  4. Wierd: right now, it's slower than it's ever been... I can't even log in! I guess everyone's rushed to pick up that big download they've been covetting?
  5. Yeah, I know yah big basket!!!! You just want revenge on all the mod sluts, I know. If you spend hours on a mod, why shouldn't they spend a few minutes renaming BMPs, eh!?
  6. WTF does " " mean!? It's an excellent mod, if I say so myself!
  7. No, it's GreenAsJade's High Contrast Snow. The Panther got that close using a technique I'd just read about for "how to defeat a Sherm with a Panther after forces have engaged". It was this: It was this: to kill a Sherm with a Panther, - have the Panther in cover - point the Panther at a spot just next to the Sherm - distract the Sherm with tasty bait - Set a covered arc on the panther at 90 to the line from the panther to the Sherm, so that when the Panther arrives next to the Sherm the gun will be pointing at the Sherm - Drive the Panther fast up next to the Sherm. The Sherm's turret can't turn as fast as the Panther can close, so the Panther will arrive pointing its gun at the Sherm who is still facing forwards. It worked beautifully, as you can see. That would have been a dead Sherm ... except the person forgot to mention "don't get *too* close"!!! (Not to mention the flamethrower who popped up inside the building, but hey The Sherm in the foreground of the shot is already dead, the smoke from it provided good cover for the Panther rush ) [ October 22, 2006, 03:39 PM: Message edited by: GreenAsJade ]
  8. For real entertainment, what about this amusing ( ) occurence... There are actually two wierdnesses in this shot, but the second one is reasonably well known by now. (The Pink Panther is a joke mod, unrelated to this topic, though others who've seen this have suggested that it's blushing!) My explanation of this is that the Panther is too close: it's gun is too long. But if they went to all the trouble to simulate that, then how come AFVs allowed to area fire within 1-2m of themselves!? GaJ
  9. I don't recall them getting up to CMAK. It was all too much hard work. Just use McMMMM instead GaJ
  10. Of course, _really_ friendly helpful modders would just put alternate BMPs in separate folders, but with the correct name, so that McMMM can offer them as alternatives to the users! It's as simple as that: leave the BMP name the same, but put the alternate in a separate folder in the zip. Then the user never has to rename a file again! GaJ
  11. wonderful! But he left the unit bases on in one of the shots (the ATGs) !!! GaJ
  12. My observation is that clearly there are extremes in either direction, but most regular players will do 1-2 turns a day. GaJ
  13. Or come join "We Band Of Brothers", where there are opponents of all types, and people who'll help. One thing in common there: everyone likes CM and will finish a game that they start. GaJ
  14. If you start here at the home of CM, and look at the close links, its true that you find abandonned sites and cobwebs everywhere. The original sites were set up by the creators of CM and the initial enthusiasts. The creators have moved on to other things, and the original builders never pulled down the now-inactive sites. As Ted says, it means you now need to know where to look ... the CM action moved away from the original home, where the creators have really moved on, and found itself new homes. It used to be the case that this was the forum I visited all the time. Now the only reason I come here from time to time is to look out for posts like Sigun's and holler " Over here! We're over here! " Cheers, GaJ
  15. If The Blitz doesn't turn out to be your thing, try We Band Of Brothers... 250 members, many tourneys & games always being played GaJ
  16. How the frick does an effect like that even get _into_ software? Many bugs after a while you can figure out how they happened (like the "reversing vehicles don't bog" bug). You can get in the head of the programmer and understand how it came to be. But this one? Beats me!!!???
  17. Any pointers to that discussion? I'd be intersted to read it...
  18. It's handy to get more foxholes by splitting squads. However, split squads are very prone to panic. It's not an obvious winning tactic to have split squads on defense... like anything else you'll need good judgement about when to do it, when not to. It's hard to see how it could be "gamey". GaJ
  19. I don't get it. You say "its slung with the tail fins folded" and yet he's clearly about to pitch it with the fins deployed like an oversize dart?
  20. And one might as well own a full copy, since it's so cheap and excellent.
  21. JK: I'll be darned - my ROW IV AARs dont have the score in them. I must have been writing them in the context of the tourney, where it was kind of assumed that the audience was involved and knew the scores. Or somefink! However, all the ROW V AARs (mine included) have the score in them, at the top. It was mandatory Cheers, GaJ
