Need Help with Finding an Operational Layer
General Jack Ripper replied to TBlaster's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
You could try using VASSAL engine. Google VASSAL in all caps and you'll find it. I haven't gotten it running yet, but there are others on the forums who do use it. If you do end up building something in Unity, I would love to try it out. -
Problem with the split teams function
General Jack Ripper replied to noob's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
The Assault Team is for light rapid-fire weapons and lots of hand grenades. It's good for clearing out buildings and doing grenade assaults. If you're hunting tanks, split off an Anti-Tank Team first, then split off your assault team if you can. Some squads won't allow splitting after a scout team, or anti-tank team is detached, but some do. It depends on the overall squad size and flexibility. -

And, I just realized that was completely off topic. Somehow I processed "film" and "scene" without the attendant "ww2" part of it. I apologize. -

Contiinued LOF glitch

Yes, the phase of the moon has a direct effect on the ability to spot at night. Not only the moon phase, but also prevailing weather conditions. This has been true ever since CMSF came out. -
If you are given tanks, you should do everything you can to keep them alive, even if you have to shoot arty smoke on top of them. Having even a single green/broken/immobilized tank can prove to be all the firepower you need to get your men off the beach.

I'd have to say the Patton speech is my favorite, but since that's already been done, I guess I'll go with this: WARNING! STRONG LANGUAGE! http://youtu.be/23cqHLi-Ngw -
New Scenario "Byte Rat Race" Feedback Wanted
General Jack Ripper replied to Derfel 2nd's topic in CM Normandy Maps and Mods
Sounds interesting! -
No, any artillery barrage plotted during the setup phase does not require LOS. That goes for all types of off map support. Once you hit [go] you need LOS just like everything else.

+1 to that. It's something I've thought of constantly. -
Just Played The Demo

The store page does offer a discount on individual game prices if you purchase them as part of a bundle. Basically, the more you buy all at once, the more you save. It depends on your budget, but if you plan on buying everything eventually, buying a big bundle will definitely save you money. You can also save a few dollars by purchasing only the download option, but that depends on your situation. Personally I always pay extra for a hard copy. Welcome to the forum! -
Brief overview of where CM is headed
General Jack Ripper replied to Battlefront.com's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
If you want LOS from the standing position, you have to stand up. Try lying down in a field of tall grass and see how far you can see, even if you raise your head a bit. LOS doesn't work that way, and there's no reason for it to be changed just to be more "gamey". Your statement is a matter of personal opinion, not a fault with the game design. I personally advocated for an increased spotting ability while hiding many years ago, but was simply told, 'that's how it works'. Unlike you, I said 'okay', and left it at that. The problem with most of your complaints is that they have already been done to death years ago, and we're tired of rehashing the same tired old topics. Then don't advance down the map edges. Ever since the days of Shock Force, the A.I. has relied on the player to click the cease fire button when they feel the battle is over. There is a point where it auto-surrenders, but it's not perfect. Secure all of the stated objectives to your satisfaction, then hit cease fire. If you make every single scenario into a bitter fight to the finish, then you will run into groups of broken soldiers hiding along the map edge. This is not an issue with the game engine, it is an issue with how you play the game. Stop trying to murderize the A.I. in every fight, and you'll see your enjoyment of the game go up by a huge amount. Now, I would like to make an on topic point. I would like to echo the request for information as to the proposed Shock Force game engine upgrade. Is this on the back burner for the immediate future, or will work on it be done in parallel with other projects? -
Help with File Extension .BTT
General Jack Ripper replied to marklaker's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
I'm glad the issue has solved itself, but for future reference, re-associating an incorrectly associated file with 'notepad' usually solves any problems I've had. Otherwise use CCleaner to delete the file extension from the registry and restart your computer. -

I agree. The performance and texture rendering in the game have come a long way since the earliest days of Shock Force. Battlefront well understands their customers don't all own thousand dollar hypermachines, and they've made it a stated goal to steadily improve performance for older computers. Even if they insisted the "blue bar" idea was delusional, they still put it back in to appease the masses. Try getting that sort of service from a AAA developer! My eyes almost bugged out of my head at that one. -

I would be interested to know if a fixed version of Kampfgruppe Engel will be included with the battle pack. I know the issue was reported long ago with the missing vehicles and tanks, but I haven't heard anything about a potential fix. EDIT: Whoops, looks like I was ninja'd on page four. Maybe I shouldn't write a post while I'm still on page three.
