  1. I'm pretty sure the potential ammunition expenditure would render that impractical. Don't get me wrong, I'm always in favor of more guns, but I was trying to be realistic. That's exactly what I was referring to. Just look at that thing, it's so wonderful it's no wonder it was scrapped! It just looks so angry you want to give it a big hug and shoot something with it. "In US and Israeli service the VADS has rarely been needed in its intended purpose of providing defense against aerial threats—consequently the Vulcan gun system was in use throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s primarily as a ground support weapon." See, the Army already had the right idea 30 years ago! I hadn't thought of that until just now! Could you imagine the possibilities of such a weapon on a vehicle!? You could cut whole buildings in half!
  2. Wow, you posted while I was busy writing mine. That road is the last place I would have expected to see a tank, and it's a Panther no less. Rather unexpected. EDIT: Great screenshots BTW!
  3. Judging by this screenshot, if your opponent parks a heavy tank at the high elevation of Rovinetta Ridge, he would be able to sweep S Road Ridge with direct fire. The trees in front of the ridge offer a covered approach to the position. If he does field a Tiger tank, and manages to get it to an elevation high enough to neutralize your terrain advantage, I don't think you'll be able to knock it out. It's exactly the sort of Gamey SOB move I'd watch out for. I think the first few turns reconnaissance will prove decisive in this engagement. At the very top of S Road Ridge, you see that little bump? That's a good spot to post a scout team. It looks to be the highest elevation on the map, with good LOS and easy defilade from the enemy ridges. It's a little gamey perhaps, but gamey is the theme for this battle.
  4. I've read the thread up to this point. Very interesting stuff. However, I would like to submit an alternate solution to the issue raised in the O.P. I don't know exactly what 30mm gun is being proposed to be fitted to this new MGS Stryker analog. Hopefully it won't be some shiny newfangled gun with circuitry and laser beams, because everyone knows fancy gadgets never get used properly. My solution is simple, take the existing MGS Strykers, remove the 105mm gun, and replace it with one of these: That's a 20mm M61 Vulcan cannon, it is mounted in nearly every combat aircraft we have, has been in use for 50 years, we have plenty of them to pass around, and it will shred any infantry or light armor it hits. Also note the complete lack of circuitry and laser beams! It's a purely mechanical killing machine, designed from the very beginning to be functional, reliable, and to blast apart anything it touches. Just look at it. It's beautiful. Aside from the fact the M113 is old and needs to be replaced, I always had a soft spot for the old M163 Vulcan ADS. So why not take the gun from the 163, and strap it to an MGS turret? If you replace the bulky 105mm ammo with smooth, streamlined, linkless, 20mm rounds, how many could be carried? Enough? EDIT: I had to put a spoiler tag around that picture, because I'm pretty sure it's classified as pornography around here
  5. To the left of AA1 in the third screenshot, is it possible for infantry to climb that hill? Personally I'd try to sneak an F.O. or H.Q. up there, with a short cover arc.
  6. Spending a whole weekend drinking, and talking about M1 Garands and Stuart tanks sounds wonderful. Unfortunately I'm poor and can't travel anywhere unless someone rents an airplane, in which case I will happily fly it for you. Best of luck, kohlenklau!
  7. Bil, don't you know the most deadly weapon you have is two companies worth of M1 Garands? I'm really looking forward to this battle, this should be fun!
  8. Excellent work as always Bil. Personally I use a very simplified ruleset for C3 as a "house rule", but I had never thought of building out a big set like this. I'll have to review all of this in detail.
  9. Need a new pool liner!

  10. Alright look, I have to weigh in on the price discussion because this is getting ridiculous. Combat Mission is cheaper than Call of Duty. Okay there, I said it, and if you still don't get it I assume you are somehow unaware that nearly all new console games these days cost $60 or more. I'd say we're getting one heck of a game, for not as much as the crappy console games that have been coming out these days.
  11. It could be the twitchy realtimers don't have the patience to come to the forum and make posts.
  12. They should have some targets set up on a range and let some rip. It makes me sad to know these tanks will never do anything but drive around a parking lot. They will never again fire a shot in anger... I need a drink.
  13. I made this guide to try getting a PBEM off the ground, but I figured I'd post it here if anyone needs it. https://youtu.be/aycy-L8GE3k
  14. I'd love to see actual Combat Engineer abilities in the game, especially pontoon bridges, or those crazy extend-o-matic bridges they carry on modified tanks. We already have rhino tanks for busting bocage, flail tanks for clearing mines, and flame tanks for knocking out bunkers and pillboxes. One can only hope bridge tanks, DD tanks, and maybe bulldozers eventually make it into the game. Imagine being able to dig hulldown positions for your tanks on the fly! Or better yet: ILLUMINATION FLARES!! Sorry, I couldn't resist the urges!
  15. Wherever it is, so long as there's booze, DUKW's, and Schwimmwagens it's good! I think you mean aides, not aids.
  16. I've finally figured out how to live stream on Twitch Tv, and I thought of an interesting idea: Cooperative multiplayer might not be in the game yet, but we can do the next best thing. While live streaming a Combat Mission scenario, the audience can fill in roles as subordinate commanders. We could use the chat feature to have people issue orders for each turn, and the results would be played out live in real time. Depending on the size of the audience, and the size of the scenario, we could have people fill in all the way down to assistant team leader positions. This concept would depend on having enough interest, and finding a scheduled time that would work for the most number of people. I really just wanted to sound off about this idea, and to get a feel for any interest in it. So if this sounds like something fun to do, or if you have questions/comments, please post them. That's all for now.
  17. I've been using H2H Helper 2.4.4 for a while now, and at first glance CM Helper seems to work exactly the same way. Is there any functional difference between the two aside from Black Sea support? I don't personally own Black Sea yet, so is it necessary for me to switch applications?
  18. Whenever I'm recording videos, I use the keyboard as much as I can. When I'm playing without recording I use edge scroll with the mouse, it's faster.
  19. Beef noodle! Delicious!
