Windows 10 is Upon Us! Oh, Woe!
General Jack Ripper replied to Derfel 2nd's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
There is a workaround where you uninstall the KBsomething update that provided the automatic upgrade to windows 10. Oh wait, I think you were referring to something else. sorry. -

"Balanced" HtH matchups are BORING! Give me asymmetric warfare any day of the week, except on Saturdays because I'm usually drunk. -

My mistake, I confused "License" with "Activate". -
Problems in CMBN V3.11
General Jack Ripper replied to DasMorbo's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
That's exactly how I place my waypoints as well, and 99% of the time it works as intended. The only time it hasn't worked is if the second waypoint for the destination was offset to some degree. For example, if the destination waypoint was 45 degrees to the right of the one pictured, your pixeltruppen might decide to run down to the open end of the hedgerow anyway. You have to think of movement paths the way it would work in real life. You wouldn't simply tell your troops "move over there", you would give them a specific instruction, "get into that ditch and follow it to the other side of the road", etc. You simulate specific instructions by drawing a path of waypoints to your destination. -

If I were you, I would 'unlicense' the games before upgrading, and then re-license them afterwards. -

Problems in CMBN V3.11
General Jack Ripper replied to DasMorbo's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I too have noticed the 'big blob o' guys' movement, but it only occurs when you use a single long movement path for many units. My rule of thumb is to plot movement waypoints every three action spots along the intended path. That works just fine in keeping your troops spaced out. It is the responsibility of the player to ensure movements are carried out correctly, and it has been so since CMx2 came out. You have to remember, even though the terrain looks seamless, it is actually based on a grid system with all of the inherent problems that creates. -
Do Target Arcs & Hide = Ambush?
General Jack Ripper replied to MOS:96B2P's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Once upon a time, Hide + Target Arc didn't work, and I was sad. Now it does work, and I'm glad. End of story.- 38 replies

Womble's got it. I already posted in the other thread, and I think my point is still valid. -

I would love to see Combat Mission: Korea, but to properly do it justice it might have to wait for a future version of the game engine. -
Equipment drop down mneu?
General Jack Ripper replied to PanzerShrimp's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
It depends on the formation, and the available weapons. A unit equipped with mostly K98's isn't going to benefit much from 'excellent' equipment. However, if you have units equipped with many different types of weapons, the equipment selection makes a difference, both in small arms, and portable antitank weapons availability. Not a 'huge' difference, but a noticeable one. For example, a unit set to 'poor' equipment might have mostly K98's and no Panzerfausts, while a unit set to 'excellent' equipment will have G43's, StG44's, maybe an extra LMG, and a few Panzerfausts. -
Clearing Tank mines?
General Jack Ripper replied to PanzerShrimp's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
I thought the Russians just ran tanks through minefields in single file? When they stop exploding the lane is clear? -
Formation tasks are a good thing to have. It simulates the Company HQ calling his Platoon leaders over and saying 'okay, here's what we're going to do today', or calling over the radio on the Company net and telling everyone, 'were doing this instead'. Nice work, I'm looking forward to the tutorial.

Don't worry, the Panther would have suffered transmission failure right after they got the tracks back on The it would have been killed by marauding P-47's. -

You would be dead wrong, stop wasting our time with asinine comments. -
In the reply box, there is a button, second row center for embedding images. Paste the image URL in the box and it should embed, so long as it is a direct url to the image itself. EDIT: ALSO! You might need to drop the 's' from 'https' in order to get it to work. I know YouTube vids won't embed if it has 'https' on it.

Tiger Armor Issue
General Jack Ripper replied to shift8's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Partial penetrations are NOT DEFLECTIONS! Marginal penetrations that cause armor spalling are NOT DEFLECTIONS! LOOK! 74% penetration rate! 22% marginal penetration rate! Only 4% of shots fired deflected! How does that count as 'almost all'? It actually looks like 'almost none'! Your entire point was proven wrong pages ago, yet you still persist? -

Looks like DJ got bitten by the "Tank targeting at close range takes much longer" feature meant to prevent tanks from mowing down close assaulting infantry. That was certainly one epic staredown! I can almost hear the armrest pounding screaming frustration "just shoot him [bleeping bleep!]". -
Operation Tumbleweed
General Jack Ripper replied to Placebo's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
That's a fair question. Nothing has been abandoned since CMx2 came out, even Shock Force is scheduled to have a future update to the 3.0 game engine, which surprised the heck out of me! Join the club, I haven't even finished playing through Shock Force yet, and I bought it back in 2008! So you know what, after I bought CMBN, I didn't buy anything else! I'm happy with the games I have, and I do realize that it might take years for me to finish playing them, if I ever do. No one is forcing you to spend money to buy all of the new releases, and to complain that new releases would somehow force Battlefront to "abandon" their old games simply isn't true. An updated version of Kampfgruppe Engel has already been released. I haven't heard of any other campaigns with any problems.
