Is anybody still playing this game?
General Jack Ripper replied to agusto's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
No, thank you, I had a lot of fun. I'll be playing through more of the scenario soon, I think I'll Fraps and post a highlights video, rather than stream for five hours next time. One of my war gaming buddies did come in and watch for a bit, I don't think he'd ever seen Combat Mission before. -

I ran a livestream while testing this scenario. You can find it here: http://www.twitch.tv/raptor_pilot I'll warn you, there's about 5 hours of gameplay to wade through. I'll be posting some highlights later. The stream's not super quality, I'm trying to find settings that work. So far I'm enjoying the scenario. One of my tanks got immobilized on the wrong side of the airport, and that pissed me off a bit. I also wasted time hunting down an enemy team outside of Alpha. I have a platoon securing Alpha right now, but the enemy tanks have just showed up. I'm going to have to take care of them before I can commit the rest of my forces. Also, I have never, ever used a CAAT team before. Hopefully they won't just get blown up. I did manage to hit a T-72 with a TOW missile, but the thing just shrugged it off and kept driving. Grrr. One thing I will say, the enemy tanks just seem to be sprinting across the map, with no real concern about locating my forces. My one operational Abrams killed three T-72's and the rest of them just drove right on by. Maybe adding time to the A.I. waypoints might slow them down a little, and let them observe a bit more. Right now they're just driving at full speed while buttoned up directly into a hasty ambush. Once I have highlights I'll post them on YouTube and link them here. -

I know I slacked off last weekend. (AAP challenge and some total war had to be done) I'll definitely play through this either tonight or tomorrow and write up some notes. -
Everything should go back to normal after the current battle, but you might want to keep the save file just in case it's a bug or something.

Not exactly, I meant using the [Target] command in a direct fire mode to the action spot behind the spot the gun is located. Yes they can, select the mortar team and use the [Target] command. They can direct fire against anything outside of their minimum range, which for the U.S. 60mm mortar is 39 meters. You can use direct fire to point target enemy units, or conduct area fire into a single action spot.

Fizou, did you recently install a major upgrade? I saw exactly the same thing when I installed v2.0 and v3.0, as can be seen in my Road to Montebourg videos on my YouTube channel. [The Road to Montebourg - Part 10 - Les Licornets 1 - "A New Plan?"] All of my U.S. troops were dressed in German uniforms for one battle (the save game was pre-upgrade), as soon as I started the next one, everything was normal again.

Oh I can see it now: Chapter 1 - "Thinking About Attacking" Chapter 2 - "Attacking" Chapter 3 - "How to Attack After Attacking" Chapter 4 - "Defending Counterattacking" Chapter 5 - "If Your Attack Fails... A Hypothetical Argument" Chapter 6 - "Submachine Guns in the Attack" Chapter 7 - "Killing Your Enemies... or How to Attack Without Moving" Chapter 8 - "Fratricide, a Tool for Victory!"

If your squads are split into teams, then short waypoints won't slow you down too much. Troops don't actually "pause" at each waypoint so much as just "wait for everyone to arrive" before moving on. Small teams don't have to wait as long because instead of waiting for 13 guys to get in position, you only have to wait for 4 or 5. You'll lose maybe 5 seconds every minute, which is relatively insignificant. If you need to move fast, plot a series of short [Quick] moves with a 5 second pause at each waypoint. Your troops will move fast, but not become too fatigued. It also works to reduce fatigue while using [Hunt], using 3 AS length waypoints with 10 second pauses will ensure you can cross vast distances using [Hunt] without your men getting exhausted. It is slower than running straight to your destination, but it's a heck of a lot safer when contact is imminent.

Schürzen does it work in game?
General Jack Ripper replied to GhostRider3/3's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Well, so long as it works, that's good enough for me. Thanks for the info, I had no idea PTRD and PTRS were so dangerous it resulted in the up-armoring of tanks. -
WOT & War Thunder Panther Skins

Very vivid colors. Could you post screenshots without the Reshade? I'd love to see how these look in the stock graphics. -
Vehicle embarking problem
General Jack Ripper replied to bisu's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Personally I don't plot any movement orders for the vehicle until everyone has embarked/disembarked. Ithikial is correct in plotting a move order right next to the vehicle before ordering an embarkation. I've never run into this bug myself, having always taken precautions when loading/unloading a vehicle. -
is there a quick way to review maps
General Jack Ripper replied to silent one's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
That's the way to do it, personally I edit the file names of my favorite maps and put an exclamation mark in front of my favorites, then they will be listed first. -
I want to make sure I have all of the mod files. I have #1-11, is that all of them? I looked through the Repository and couldn't find any more.

Schürzen does it work in game?
General Jack Ripper replied to GhostRider3/3's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
The results are in, Schürzen does work. The hit decal circled in red shows a complete penetration. The decal circled in green shows no penetration. The hit text records the fact the armor skirt took the impact. The shot was from a Bazooka at 80 meters. Schürzen is designed to protect against HEAT rounds, and it works as advertised. -

I'm pretty sure it works, I'll set up a test scenario. -

It's not that I blow everything up with arty, I just tend to ignore 'Preserve' objectives and respond with appropriate force against any threats. -
Michael Emrys are you there?
General Jack Ripper replied to Sequoia's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Just one more reason I've hung around these forums for so long. Lovely atmosphere! I do hope Mr. Emrys gets better soon. The place isn't quite the same without him. -

"Without damaging any of the infrastructure" I don't think I'm psychologically capable of that, but I could give this scenario a try.
