    I don't know why such a minute fear affects what could be one of the game's largest features. The fear is that people will modify Russian tanks so they dont get stomped in cmbs? Or weaken Abrams? Etc?
    I guess that's fine, I wouldn't even ask for a tool to edit unit values like that. That's BFC's thing.
    I'm more interested in an editable TOE: being able to customize squads (like CMPE) and also being able to develop TOEs that aren't native to the base game + modules.. I ran into a ton of trouble when trying to create my MRB in cmbs. I had to create too many ad hoc solutions for simple problems. I'm mostly finished with a MRD for cmcw and I've come across the same issues, but less so since I'm using a source with less fidelity than the one previously used for the MRB.
     
    men of war, company of heroes all made you load up mod packs to use ingame, and they only worked in multiplayer if you had the same mod loaded up. Is something like this completely infeasible?
     
    I'm not sure what you mean but I doubt it's relevant.

    Personally when I make purchases around here it's because I know I can add the master maps to my other games. I feel I haven't been getting an incredible amount of new and different vehicles. CMCW has many of its vehicles from SF2 and maybe even Afghanistan. CMFB has many of its vehicles from CMFI, CMBN. SF2 was a re-do of itself which took ages also.

    Right, I've done the mod for the M4A2 75mm and the PzIVG (Late):

    Pz IVG (Late)
    Sadly the Pz IVG (Latest) model is really in a bad way - internally there's an unspecified texture attached to a material used in the model which means it can't be exported from Blender without extra tweaking. No matter what extra tweaking I tried all efforts failed to get a result that wasn't bust - throwing it's wheels in the air when moving for eg. This is a limitation of our tool kit that I can't overcome, and without some help from BF there's really no way I can see of correcting this one. Good luck to others who might want to give it a try.
    There is a slightly different version of the IVG (Latest) available in CMFI which could be ported to RT but that has other issues - no side skirts armour but all the shadows for them being but one. The TC does sit in the correct position but otherwise it's a buggy model at best. The other existing versions in FB and BN are the same as our RT model so don't waste your time with them.
    Anyway here's the finished M4A2 that you were originally concerned about ...

    If anyone is feeling adventurous there are a slew of other models that could do with some TLC WRT TC positions ... just from the German armour in RT ...

    There are of course all sorts of strange positions especially in HTs and other open-topped vehicles. 
    Ultimately I guess it may not matter if the engine is calculating risk based on a look-up table - is the crew man standing or sitting, hatch open or closed - so long as that is the same across the board. If other factors like gun shields and hit boxes are coming into play then perhaps some rebalancing is in order. If the model does have an impact on the risk assessment then some of these fellas don't stand a chance.

    It's the one I mentioned earlier, need to take a look at this thread, the download link is in there somewhere:
    @RockinHarry changed the position of Grenadiers riding in the back and the poor guy who is volunteered to be MG gunner so that they are all lower.
    @George MC reported that he noticed some difference wrt the protection provided to the MG gunner in this thread:

    If you still have any results from your earlier tests it would be worth comparing, especially if you have the scenario or a saved game.
    I've made some progress with the mods, PzIV turned into a right pig for some reason, probably because the base model is not in a good way - there are some errors in the models which seem to have knock on effects whenever I try to correct them. It's odd because the models used for the PzIV G late and latest look the same as those used in CMFI, but there the TC is in the right position. The only difference on the surface is the lack of side skirts on the G (Latest) in FI even though the texture is present in the FI data folder. By the time the models gets into RT something has gone wrong with both so that they are using a weird hodgepodge of textures and less standard model data, almost like they were unfinished. Anyway I think I have the solution now so will get them finished v. soon.

    The Panzer IVG was part of my Berlin Bodenständig Pz IVG mod for RT:
    Made as a bit of a fun experiment specifically to go with NPye's upcoming Battle for Berlin mod pack and maps:
    It's available in my thread or from CMMODS IV.
    I think however what I should do is a set of mods for you to test properly. I'll bundle up models for the M4A2 and the Pz IVG (Late) both with lowered TCs then you can do some sniping tests see if they gain anything. I'll post you a download link.

    How can I get hold of your mods for some testing? Searched CMMODS and found some that Kohl had changed but moved the TC up from a too low position. I'll compare your screenshot to in-game when I get time, but it looks just about right.

    I've had many fond memories of "rebuilding" applications and even the full operating system.🤕🙄
    I've taken to writing installation notes to minimize that headache. I'm currently using Linux Mint. So far, no response on OpenGL in the Bottles forum. Thanks for responding.

    CMAutoEditor for Dummies
    (Revision 13Dec2022)
    STEP 1:
    In this step you will go download a few things and put them in the best place.
    You need some python type program and if you never use python then it is suggested to get miniconda3 as of 13Dec2022.
    Go to conda.io and pick the proper OS and download to an easy to find location in your main drive. I used C:\Users\Phil
    I had an issue with being an old cheap baztard and still use Windows 7 and had to go to the archives to get an older version of miniconda3 that worked with Win7.
    For the Windows 7 issue, here is the "archive" for finding the older versions to download.

    I ended up using Miniconda3-py37_4.8.2-Windows-x86_64 dot exe
    About 52MB application file
    It was not zipped and after I downloaded it, I just pasted it over to C:\Users\Phil
    STEP 2:
    Then you get Butschi's actual python code from github at his link. As of 13Dec2022, it was at https://github.com/DerButschi/CMAutoEditor
    Tip: if you just want the code and not be watching all the bug tracking, hit the green button
    It is a zip file
    I also put his folder in C:\Users\Phil. Note: it was a folder in a folder so I had to cut the inner folder and paste to C:\Users\Phil. Follow me?
    for my test of the elevation only version of CMAutoEditor the folder was called "CMAutoEditor-master"
    so, go to C:\Users\Phil and shift-right click to see a window with an option for "Open command window here"
    You get the black command window with C:\Users\Phil>
    The command window opened and I successfully changed directory and installed the requirements.
    cd C:\Users\Phil\CMAutoEditor-master
    then it shifts directory and you see C:\Users\Phil\CMAutoEditor-master>
    then type pip install -r requirements.txt
    It scrolls a bunch of code stuff as it loads things
    It is done just once and you never do it again as long as you don't update CMAutoEditor (in which case the requirements file may change so you would have to run pip install -r requirements.txt again)... BUT if Butschi makes improvements and this becomes an ongoing developing tool, you will want to do it (pip install -r requirements.txt) again, he hopes.
    STEP 3:
    In this step you will go prepare to actually fire up "old Bessy"...
    Maybe you had closed the python command window, maybe you did not...
    Start your CM game you want the map to be in. Go to the CM Editor, go to map, go to "Elevation" menu and click "Direct". There is no need to do other settings before that and you don't have to save anything. Make sure that the starting map is 320m x 320m. Which is default for new map anyway!
    Note: this is just the settings for CMAutoEditor to start the map which can be bigger. You don't dial up your start map to be bigger.
    Close out of your other windows and such I think.
    STEP 4:
    Just have CM and the black command window.
    If you had closed the black command window, do this:
    Go to your equivalent location of C:\Users\Phil
    shift-right click to see a window with an option for "Open command window here"
    You get the black command window with C:\Users\Phil>
    Then type cd C:\Users\Phil\CMAutoEditor-master
    then you see C:\Users\Phil\CMAutoEditor-master>
    then type all as one command python .\cmautoeditor.py -i example_height_map.csv
    (one command)
    (Note: the csv file name will obviously change as you use YOUR data set. This csv file should be in the folder with CMAutoEditor)
    Then the 5 second countdown starts. ALT-TAB TO CM Window. MACHT SCHNELL!!!
    Don't touch your mouse.
    It starts doing its thing as shown in Butschi's youtube video posted down at the bottom. 
    It adjusts map size as it does its thing. You can watch and see it cranking away.
    There is currently no window or message to say "I am done"...
    "CMAutoEditor works while you sleep and dream of your completed elevations served with coffee in the morning!"

Interestingly the CMFI model for the Sherman III (and Sheramn IIa) is actually sitting in the CMRT Data repositories in our game folders - must have been left there when the BF minions were porting the model over, it's complete with it's FI camo and all!

    Ah yes, now that you both mention it I do recall that there was some futzing to be done for OpenGL support. All I can offer is hope - if I managed to get it running then it must be possible and not too difficult since I am an utter non-command line type of guy, I need my apps ready made and working generally. If I find any notes or remnants of installed stuff I will be sure to let you know.

    Wwwwhhhhhhaaaaaaaattttttt? Man that's sneaky ... 😉
    Since I've been volunteered ...
    We can change models using Blender and a special import/export script. We can't change the animations but we can tackle stuff like crew positions, wonky AFV guns, flavor objects, buildings, trees etc. So it's possible to make small tweaks or bigger tweaks or swap bits and pieces around or make new models to 'skin' existing models. We can't change game mechanics. So a tank with six turrets will still only be a tank with one turret in game terms - it'll just look a bit different, but won't function differently.
    BUT, it MIGHT be the case that some small tweaks DO have an effect on stuff like snipers taking out our TCs and your poor HT MG gunner. HOWEVER nobody has done definitive testing and we have just seen some anecdotal reports of HT MG gunners having slightly better survivability thanks to the tweaks that RockinHarry made ... see this thread:

    It may just be wishful thinking or it may actually be an improvement - please do make some tests.
    Now WRT your M4A2 TC - let's see first if there are any other M4A2 models with better positioning of the TC - easier to do a straight swap if there is. Otherwise I will engage on a repair mission in Blender which will hopefully achieve a better looking position at least. TBC

    That is obviously a good suggestion 😎...But it might not solve the 'problem' that some of the guys around here are having, including me 😊....
    It's not neccesarely MORE content that we are looking for,  eventhough that is always welcomed, but rather THE RIGHT content.
    What i mean by that is that the basegames and modules for the timeframes and locations that we are intrested in is simply not avaliable. Personally i would very much like to play and design scenarios set on the eastern front WW2 during 41-43.
    Other guys might favour the pacific WW2, North Africa WW2, Vietnam, Korea, Various fictional conflicts current and past, Arab - Israeli wars etc, etc...
    No matter how hard we try to work in the editor we simply can't make those scenarios because those units are not avaliable. Thanks to several gifted modders around here some of these conflicts can be done to some degree but not to the regular BFC, CM2 standard that we want a love....For that to be possible we need the correct tools avaliable...Units, terrain, timeframe from a dedicated basegame, module...
    I realize that it is a tall ask to expect every single forum member around here to be able to play exactelly the conflict he wants but i think it is the lack of new basegames, modules that frustrates some of the forums members somewhat...If BFC could find a way to speed up the release of these assets that would be a very good thing imo 😎
    I think quite a bunch of the guys around here don't neccesarely play all the scenarios and campaigns that are avaliable...I know i don't. Some may not like big battles, some might not like small battles, some might not like urban fighting, night fighting, bad wheather fighting, some may only play WW2 and other prefer the modern games...
    No doubt...There are a lot of scenarios and campaigns to play...but i don't want to play 200 scenarios...whatever...I want to play scenarios and campaigns that i find to be intresting and enjoyable...
    Many of those scenarios and campaigns are currently unavaliable because of the fact that the basegames and modules required to make them simply does not exist and considdering the recent release rate of new basegames, modules they probably never will be and that makes me somewhat sad...😉
    I fear that the lack of new community made scenarios might atleast partly be the result of the slow progress of the CM2 game series as well as updates to the game engine...My guess would be that many of the oldtimers have simply lost intrest in this game...the updates are to few and to far between...
    Appart from some of the modding threads there really in not all that much going on on this forum any more...sadly.
    I have dabbled quite a bit in the editor during the years and are fully aware of what it takes to design a scenario, map or not least a campaign.
    I'm greatlful for the guys doing these things and  i do considder the products that BFC do release to be of the highest quality and i have no doubt that the guys working for BFC are working hard. 😎...
    I just wish there could be more of them...espesially working on new basegames, modules, game engine updates...
    When it comes to these things i'm a little bit dissapointed...It takes to long ! 😊

    I'd happily pay $60 for a 3/4th recycled game - if I could.
    The "Charles-free" new content such as scenario packs is not that interesting to me. I want to play with new toys and I want bugs fixed.

    Like I said above the dead soldiers are only as experiment if this working nice I will check to do more nations and differents categories airborne, paras, lufwaffe, ss,... but also civilians peoples.

    First you have to install the Editor buttons mods from @rockingharry
    For every (FO) 16 slots can be used in the editor.
    But to keep the original one always available, I will be starting with the Num 2 or later.
    I choose the following FO's.
    Cart or Hancart  
    Bin
    Drum 
     
     
    Thus, the procedure!
     
    >Put the FO's Folders of your choice in your Z folder
    >Let s start the game and go to the editor.
    >Load a map campaign or scenario
    >Click on the category of FO's Bin, Barrel,...of your choice, and the choosing number.
    >Check the 3d view on your map and place the wreck correctly, save it eventual in a different name as the original.
    >Then let start.

    A word about dead soldiers
    do you think they have to wearing weapons or let it without is important to finish the mod ?? 
    When they are interresting and usefull for the game, I will prepare also airborne, british, ss, tanker, luftwaffe,...
    for this I would like have some photos of dead soldiers from games, like I was already asked, the reason is, dead soldiers on the net are without textures, (that I have to created) and some models have already, but they are not free!!
