  1. It depends on how valuable one considers life is. My international travel experience is that anyplace but the west, life is relatively "cheap" (regrettably). This gives rise to challenges as we now face - hard to fight an enemy that doesn't mind (or even welcomes) dying.
  2. Took your advice and what one finds via Google is quite eye-opening. Eg: "Despite clear historical evidence showing that the United States was established as a republic and not a democracy, there is still confusion regarding the difference between these two very different systems of government. Some confusion stems because the word "democracy" is used to describe both a "type" and a "form" of government. As a "type" of government, it means that generally free elections are held periodically, which America has. But, as a "form" of government, it means rule by the majority, which America does not have; America is a republic." http://www.foundingfatherquotes.com/articles/22 http://www.americantraditions.org/Articles/Why Our Founders Feared a Democracy.htm
  3. It's no laughing matter, but this is what is useful about mercenaries. No one cares about them politically and govt leaders can shrug shoulders without loss of face etc .
  4. War Movie mode washes out the color and makes it look like the WW2 newsreels. The game images appear more "realistic" to us these days as that is what we grew up watching. However, it's been pointed out that there were many gloriously colorful days in the war and that the BW newsreels do not necessarily reflect the real look.
  5. +1 This is what was great about BF's original CM1 concept. You could fight the entire "War in the East", or in North Africa or everything after Normandy '44 in one game (for each theatre). Mods made it possible even to fight a pretty good approximation of Sealion and Poland '39 - even Italy's adventures in NA b4 the big show started. It's easy to understand why for economic reasons CM2 breaks everything down into a few months here and there. But yes, wouldn't it be wonderful to just have to load up one game and have the entire theatre available from start to end. That's another reason am hoping that the ability to combine all games in a theatre into one will be possible eventually - another reason to hope for that in CM3.
  6. So, long as you get the female eyes and make-up version. Can you do female face skins?? Otherwise the balaclava head covering (as in above pic) works well.
  7. Ironically this may quite realistically portray Soviet rigidly preplanned tactics - at least during early war era.
  8. It may indicate that grays should be used with black for the shadows etc.
  9. That's why I suggested making the formation out of 3x2-man sniper and 3x2-man FO teams. Yes, one could get unlucky and get blown up. But then you only lose 2 men. Also, wouldn't IED's be put in well-travelled routes, not out in the middle of nowhere where a sniper or FO team would normally set up.
  10. That's why have been hoping that someone would continue the tactics thread that Olek started. Am sure I have not seen any other thread helping with how to play CMBS successfully (ie avoiding bloodbaths). And if that bloodbath reflects RL, then no wonder no one (in the west) wants to get into any more fights for any reason.
  11. IIRC yes. That was what interested me re the "12 Strong" movie. While the movie depicted them as crazy guys riding into battle on horses, it seemed apparent that they were well equipped as snipers and air support FO's. And that seemed like it could be a basis for what you are suggesting. The only addition re the movie concept is a small army of Afghan uncons who did the actual close range fighting vs the Taliban uncons while the US Elites sniped and brought in air support.
  12. Was playing a scenario with Elite sniper and this tactic worked great. Only needed to give the sniper 10 second pause b4 having him SLOW MOVE away to another firing location, (or back again for a 2nd shot). Invariably would get a kill each 10 sec pause. Maybe need longer pause for less skilled sniper.
  13. Lovely. Thanks... It's also a great idea to provide links to all your other mods directly on your CMMODS page. That will make it easy for others/newbies just joining here to find em all in one place. My only observation re your weapons mods like guns, AT etc. is that they are so uniformly black that they look like a flat "black hole" in (my) game. If you look at your own photos of the RL weapons they are more shades of gray and black and one can easily see definition which is what makes em look 3D.
  14. The main reason to be skeptical about any possibility of war with a near peer (eg: Russia) is that even winning such a war runs a high probability of deteriorating one's own best forces. What does one do then when a third near peer state (eg China or even N. Korea) start threatening the world? China is already a larger threat to the west than Russia due to the failed theory that foreign business and investment would liberalize/democratize China, and now its massive grab for the entire S. China Sea through which the majority of the world's trade sails through. Also what hasn't been widely reported is China's current attempt to seize a land corridor in Bhutan ("3 corners area") allowing is access to India and blocking India's access to the NE of its own country. http://www.scmp.com/news/china/diplomacy-defence/article/2124375/china-building-troop-numbers-near-doklam-after-summer https://www.economist.com/blogs/economist-explains/2017/08/economist-explains-6 Analyzing the situation as above explains why it makes perfect sense for the US to be so concerned about massive rearmament asap. But, it's doubtful that the US/West in currently in any position to do anything re foreign adventures/incursions etc. So, can relax and be happy (for a while)...
  15. As others have commented, you need to decide what era you fancy most. For modern era you have CMBS set in Europe (emphasizing relatively closer range combat) and (the very inexpensive CMSF) or wait for CMSF2 both similarly set in deserts and towns (of Syria) providing more open, mobile and longer range combat. For WW2, CMBN is probably the most "mature" with the most campaigns, scenarios and mods available.
  16. Actually am not bothered about pics. Having heavily modified CM2 titles gives me all the graphics highs I need. Am more concerned about the quality of gameplay. Which is one reason that I hope CM3 is in the works as that is the only way we'll see a major advance/improvement of gameplay experience. +1 re Bulletpoint's point re fighting "the basically same situation in three different games." Yes. It's a growing concern that have played so much CM2 that all the WW2 titles are starting to "feel" very similar in terms of gameplay experience. "...for variety, I think it would be more interesting to branch out in different years of the war, where the relative strengths were different." Agreed. However, we've been playing essentially the same CM2 experience for over ten years (from CMSF onwards). It's looks likely it will take at least another 5 years to get to early war (and perhaps longer). Am having a hard time imagining playing essentially the same game for 15-20 years without the major improvements that CM3 would provide.
  17. Looks very nice, Olek. Your weathering techniques seem to get better and better.
  18. V good idea to show great pics accompanied with a list of the mods used, Olek!
  19. Let's not get hasty. We're going to need Russia's help containing the greater threat: China.
  20. Yup. At "undisclosed location" in Tempe currently. Beautiful weather this time of year. And a LAKE!!! With boaters and sailcraft!!! Who woulda thought.
  21. Yes, we've all had the experience of HE right on target a few seconds b4 an assault - and yet the enemy recovers almost immediately and is shooting back as you attack. In RL you'd think the enemy would have shredded lungs from the blast at least. Just have to overlook the game abstraction. One pretty much has to add direct support fire as well.
