Must see if it's still available to view. What year produced?

As Michael says you (we all) need a 10 year old trainer. Maybe 8 these days?

You do realize that the era of "only" military forces being used is pretty much over? The next (major) war will incorporate Cyberwar techniques that will hurt the civilian population more than the military (which has at least some training and protection). This thread, as entertaining as it is, suggests the sort of pre WW2 strategy discussions based on what happened in WW1. PS: You can be sure they built in explosives in the Channel Tunnel during construction ready to blow. FWIW: When I lived in southern Utah it seemed like an open secret that they were prepared to blow the freeway pass through the Virgin River Gorge to ensure (in the event of crisis) none of the riffraff from Las Vegas and point further south could get into Utah. So, am confident that all such outcomes such as the Russians invading Utah or GB have been already thought thru.

Can 105 MM Artillery Knock out AFV?
Erwin replied to CanuckGamer's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Quite right - in the game at least. Re indirect fire, onmap 81mm mortars are better at this as more accurate. (Of course in modern games one can use precision munitions.) -
I think it's named for the sound it makes as its tracks crush the bodies of the aliens (or infidels - take your pick): "Khorramshahr".

Yes, Hacksaw Ridge probably the most violent and gut wrenching film I ever seen - like they went all out to beat Saving Private Ryan in that regard. I dunno about the story particularly. Dunkirk I thought a wonderful "Art War Film" or "War Art Film"... Not sure I seen that genre type of movie b4, so maybe new. They messed around with time so it's not a traditional linear timeline film. Darkest Hour is not a war movie I suppose. But, nonetheless a brilliant depiction of that same time period in the halls of power at Westminster. Gary Oldman deserved his Oscar.

That would be 90% of the problem. My significant other unit is about your age and is a President and CEO - and she can barely understand or use the basic functions of her "smartphone". So you are in good company. Do you have any 12 year old relatives or neighbors?
-
Definitely a sexy color - like the black luxury cars you see all over the place. A daily driver to work?

Sig-other unit and I really enjoyed The Crown. Had withdrawal symptoms after seeing series. Hope it comes back for more seasons.

Can 105 MM Artillery Knock out AFV?
Erwin replied to CanuckGamer's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
You talking indirect fire? Open-topped vehicles can be knocked out by smaller HE than 105mm (at least they could in CM1) if land on top. Am pretty sure have seen tanks with thin top armor KO'd by top direct hits as well. Only thinly armored vehicles could be (reliably) KO'd by direct HE fire. There are always outlyers I imagine. -
How to use mortar halftracks?
Erwin replied to Bulletpoint's topic in Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg
IIRC the German mortar halftrack can dismount its mortar. Don't recall if similar for US. -
Then we will fight in the shade!

And use a lot of time and patience. Of course problem is some designers don't give adequate scenario time and essentially encourage hasty movement leading to bloodbaths. -

That's a reason CMBS is so bloody and it's hard to keep inf alive. The ease of spotting with new tech (in CMBS at least) is brutal on the target.- 33 replies

How to use mortar halftracks?

That's beginning to look like a bug or game limitation that you have discovered. -
Well, a war on two fronts is generally bad.
-
Go Pro and drones make one ask the question why go to the theatre to watch a war movie when one can have a real one in your living room anytime. Amazing stuff...

Maybe make your scenario available to us and we can try and accomplish the same mission. It would be interesting to compare different players' strategies/tactics.

How to use mortar halftracks?
Erwin replied to Bulletpoint's topic in Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg
Am wondering... Since one can only have one target from a waypoint. the game engine allows that for the primary unit - in this case the vehicle to fire from that waypoint. IIRC the mortar carrier (German?) may not have a weapon. In this case perhaps the game system cannot switch to allowing the passenger to have a target order unless the passenger has a waypoint itself. So, can the onboard mortar be dismounted and moved? If so, then maybe its waypoint (after dismounting) can then have a target order. Otherwise, it may simply be an engine limitation. -
My understanding (from the little about economics I learned) was that Germany could not afford its own economic expansion during the 30's without acquiring new resources and territory. ie: Germany was on the way to bankrupting itself with Hitler's grandiose infrastructure plans. It needed conquest to bring in more "stuff" just like the British Empire (and the empires before it) needed "stuff" from all over the world to become and remain "Great".

Logistical Exits: Any chance in next Upgrade?
Erwin replied to Macisle's topic in Combat Mission - General Discussion
A thought regarding reinforcements... What seems to happen too often is that the designer makes a set-up zone across the entire map edge while having the at start forces arranged on one small section - say the right hand side. So a player (like me) rearranges the at start units to cover the whole edge. When reinforcements arrive they are all grouped in one area - the left hand side. It's like the designer wants the player to start the attack the way he set up the at start units, and the reinforcements are "supposed" to arrive to attack down the 2nd axis. Of course by that time a player like me is buggered. So, if you want a player to attack in a certain way, don't provide huge set up zones that encourage players to do a new set up to cover areas that the reinforcements are supposed to cover. Or, better still, use the briefing to TELL the player where the reinforcements will arrive. -
Saw this and it is very funny with serious undertones. Recommended.

Note: Depending on what equipment the vehicle possesses, it may be that it spots better when buttoned.- 33 replies

And have some sort of plan even if it's changeable (rather than a general advance and "see what happens").- 33 replies

The 'Never Say You've Seen It All' Thread

Lovely. But it would be nice if they told us where those "fascinating" things are located.
