  1. I liked the wide shots with the small camera panning movement. Very cinematic, 37mm.
  2. +1 CM1 featured a one-click 180 degree arc and I have taken SO much flak since CM2 came out for asking the same question. You'd think it would be a no brainer feature, but...
  3. Yup... seems definitive: "The strap remained fastened under the impact of a blast wave resulting from a nearby detonation, thereby jerking the head sharply and violently with the production of fractures or dislocations of the cervical vertebras." Where's a good trivial pursuit game when one needs one?
  4. Maybe you could make a fortune proposing the new WW2 Disney Attraction? Fun for all the family in your bomb shelter (with gas fumes from the hot dog concession stands and parking lot).
  5. Um.... any other hints on how to conduct corporate IT espionage..? For purely entertainment purpose, obviously...
  6. IIRC it was to prevent an enemy using one's own helmet to strangle one from behind.
  7. I remember that it's an exciting scenario and at times when viewing at level 1 it looked exactly like the UTube videos of the RL Syrian tanks as they traveled thru town, with their turrets constantly scanning like Daleks. Looking forward to replaying the new version. Thanks George.
  8. That's a lovely concept, Holien... But, when that means you have garbage cans cluttering one's tiny front doorstep and refuse rotting outside your front door for 2+ weeks cos there is no weekly pick up due to budget cuts - there is something going "bad" literally. The EU rationale/excuse is that it's about saving the planet. The reality is that it's just about cutting costs or making bigger corporate profits from colored bin sales etc since these days most people (in the area of London that I stay in anyway) just shove everything into whatever bin has space available while the rest spews out onto the pavement (creating pollution and a health hazard) - and have seen different bins being emptied into same truck. The intent is wonderful. But, the implementation (that I have witness in London) is counter-productive.
  9. They have now reduced delivery to every 4th Thursday to save costs... Seriously, the London councils used to pick up garbage from one bin every week. Then the EU rules came in and everyone had to have three of four large different colored bins, one for recycled materials, one for organic, another for plastic or something else I couldn't even figure for what etc. If you know London, hardly anyone has a large front garden area so now the fronts of all houses are degraded and made ugly with these huge ugly bins. And then pick up was reduced to alternate weeks, so one has rotting garbage sitting by one's front door for 2 weeks. And I think last time I was in London they were planning on reducing pick up schedules even further... Talk about declining living standards...
  10. That's an art form all of it's own... But yeah, these days one has to function as if everything confidential can and will be, or has been, hacked. Have always considered ATM cards to be dangerous as it tends to be YOUR problem if fraud is committed, whereas with a CC, the companies are very good about fixing the problem with no loss to the customer. Don't really understand why people use ATM's - I simply carry sufficient cash at all times - altho in UK at least, it's hard to do any banking at all at a branch without an ATM card for ID purposes. Quite annoying actually.
  11. Don't see that depicted in war movies very often...
  12. Would that extra strap be worn after landing? If not, maybe it should be removed since CM2 only deals with the land bit.
  13. Am sure someone will dump on me for being negative. But, a note of caution need to be expressed - this idea has been tried - all the way back in CM1 days. The problem that was experienced is that it only takes one player to be sick, traveling, slow, irresponsible etc etc. and the whole scenario grinds to a halt and everyone gets fed up and the effort dissipates. My recommendation is that you have at least one strong "Dungeon Master" who can ensure "discipline" and that you have player reserves and a system in place to very quickly replace players who are not "producing" in a reasonable time.
  14. IIRC, EW is not featured in TOC - at least I don't recall it in the versions I tested... MOS can tell you for sure. Post AAR re how you do in the scenario...
  15. Not a techie so not quite sure what were the implications... Someone left a monitoring device when they ended employment?
  16. Regret my German is useless other than for brothels (and that's no very rusty). Would first recommend that you try the Training scenarios and also Google some of the useful tactical training sessions available on UTube. Here are a few links to get you started. Hope they help. You can also always post questions of the CM:FB forums. Ignore the few jerks who get irritated when one asks questions, and you'll find most members here want to be helpful. http://battledrill.blogspot.com/
  17. Both MOS and I had similar issues when testing. Not sure about the other testers. Firstly, one doesn't know the exact location of vehicles. So one needs to use area Observe. But, did not use the max area. When vehicles were stationary in the open, they were spotted after a few minutes. If in woods it took a little longer, but were spotted eventually. There was at least one event where intel informs the player that a vehicle will be traveling from point x to point y along a road. The drone was set to patrol the road. But, it never saw the moving vehicle. This was over maybe 5 playtests. And as mentioned previously, the drone never spotted any infantry, ever. Admittedly the inf was mostly in woods. But. if TV video is to be believed one should be able to spot something with FLIR etc. And these were Elite Drones, with Elite JTACs. If you haven't already played it, MOS's TOC scenario is highly recommended as a unique and fun challenge - it's unlike any CM2 games you have played. See if you can come up with better drone tactics, and plz let us know.
  18. This method of roleplaying could be fun. It's a bit like Squad Leader maybe? Matrix has an operational game that was enjoyable for a while called "Decisive Campaigns: Barbarossa" in which the player had to make many political (with High Command personalities and Hitler) as well as operational decisions which would affect the efficiency of one's units. But, it soon felt like a gimmick and got boring.
  19. 2IC (2nd in Command) seems to be what the Brits call their XO. I understand the most effective use of these units in the game. But, as I have been playing versions of CM for 20 years+, am seeking the challenge of using the units in roles that are as realistic as possible given the game system's many abstractions.
  20. Ok, that does sound more interesting. I guess we have to wait for a demo.
  21. Shame... the game looks like one of the cookie cutter simplistic 2D games from Matrix - but glossied up with actual WW2 footage to make it more marketable. Hard to tell if it's better or worse than Close Combat series.
  22. Don't know why that's a problem. Have been receiving PM's regularly from others. Have now emptied my message folder in case it was full.
  23. Only had a couple hundred I think. Emptied everything now, so don't worry about the blackmail any more.
  24. Unfortunately, one gets "privacy warnings" on every one of your links and cannot access any. Am simply trying to take my CM2 gameplay to a more "realistic" level. eg: Determining "reasonable" ammo loads and yes, the thread started about the role that recon teams play in RL vs in the CM game. Since we seem to have dealt with appropriate recon roles in the game vs RL, now am asking same question re XO's, 2IC's, and the plethora of other HQ units we often get in a game - eg mortar HQ's and other HQ's which sometimes do not have an obvious role (in the game) and determine how they would be used in RL and how to more realistically use these units in the game vs simply using them as extra combat units, or other... "I’m unconvinced about the practice of keeping the best units back until achieving a breakthrough. The breakthrough is the hard task so it makes sense to use your best troops to achieve it. ...If you commit Major Achiever’s C Company in the first place, you stand more chance of getting the tricky bit done leaving the other companies to exploit, which is a whole bunch easier than breaking into the position (US readers should delete Major and insert Captain in the above example by the way). In my six years’ experience as an Observer/Controller at a Brigade and Battlegroup trainer in the UK, the best unit/sub-unit always got the main effort task (not necessarily the most difficult by the way)." Yes, this has always seemed like "common sense" to me as well. However, in many complex organizations things don't always make common sense - maybe for good reasons that are not clear to the rest of us. If you are saying that this is the definitive answer then that's what I have been looking for. Thank you. Plz clarify by example what you mean by "main effort" vs "most difficult"? Do you mean that the "most difficult" may not matter as much? If the main effort can succeed regardless of the "most difficult" task, then why do that task? Re Rinaldi: "make the best/best lead platoon the main effort in a situation where C2 is likely to be dodgy..." Yes, this is what have been doing. The reason I pressed this question is that "leading with the best" may be a fairly modern tactic. In Napoleonic and perhaps ACW days, it seemed like one led with the less experienced and kept the best guys (eg Napoleon's "Old Guard") in reserve for the final push. Re use of XO and other HQ (and specialized) units in the game, in a similar manner as in RL, the above answers seem to say that there are so many abstractions in the CM2 games that this is not always or even generally possible, and one should simply make a best effort attempt not to do anything too gamey. ************* PS: To other players: Ultimately, this is an entertainment game and we're all here to have fun. If another player wants to play the game loading up units with ammo to the max and using them in whatever manner they want, that's totally fine. Am not trying to criticize how anyone wants to enjoy their games.
  25. Some chap told me to Google this subject and there is info online that while 7 mags is the norm (210 rounds), troops expecting combat say that they load up. https://www.quora.com/How-much-ammunition-do-modern-infantry-soldiers-carry eg: "For infantry soldiers who might reasonably expect to be aggressively engaging the enemy about six magazines plus one loaded in the weapon is fairly normal but that could easily double depending on what other equipment needed to be carried."
