  1. True: https://www.quora.com/How-much-ammunition-do-modern-infantry-soldiers-carry Per the above we gamers are allowed to overload our troops to an unrealistic degree. BF is correct with the 210 rounds basic load. My standard SOP re extra ammo during set-up is about 400 rounds per man total which according to the above blog seems about right for a heavy load. Maybe another 100-200 x 7.62 per man if they have an MG gunner. But, in the game it's possible to load close to (or over) 1,000 rounds per man plus ATR's in the team etc. and see little movement or fatigue penalty. That's unrealistic and maybe gamey imo. Re ammo tactics this was something that I doubt we players usually do in the game: "...commanders will rotate individual sections/squads in an engagement to give them the opportunity to rearm and generally sort themselves out and will plan and organise an assault or defense such that logistics are properly taken care of."
  2. IIRC one can put mines in buildings so they can be spotted and marked. But, don't think clearing mines is within CM scenario timeframe.
  3. I see the challenge. But, yes if there is no camo or uniform difference then maybe holding nothing or holding binoculars, or wearing nothing or wearing goggles would give 4 identifying options(?)
  4. Joy of joys... I located my CM CODES doc in a dusty recess of one of the computers and all activated to v2.01 easily. The only item which is not intuitive is that it doesn't seem necessary to activate the modules in any particular order(?) I activated randomly - maybe I got lucky? But, if order of activation is not important, the readme might want to mention that as it was puzzling me as to what order to activate. While the readme was well-written it may also want to mention that for upgrading from CMSF1 with modules one should ignore the onscreen window that seems to imply that all is activated after the CMSF2 basegame activation and that one can now PLAY. Perhaps a note in the window saying something like "If you have modules you need to input activation codes for those modules."? I note that the DEMO scenarios are not present in the installed game. Does one simply copy them over from the demo and then delete the demo, or do the demo scenarios not work in the full game? To delete the DEMO does one simply delete the CMSF2 DEMO folder? ie: No uninstall needed? Thank you guys.. Now all I have to do is find time to play....
  5. FWIW many of Aris' vehicle mods have many body options. eg: My M8 has 3 options for the hull and has muddy wheels. Not sure what happened to all Aris superb mods, but sad if they have been lost.
  6. Looking very good. It's important that the images for mech, armor, inf etc are easily/identifiably different from each other - or it doesn't matter which image one selects. Can you do one uncon in white so he looks like Lawrence of Arabia? (No not serious... Well not totally...)
  7. What makes items obscenely expensive is the servicing and maintenance that the contractors ensure that they build into the products. Like when your fridge goes bad after a couple years use and it costs $600 to change a circuit board - and of course you have to get a contractor to do that - god forbid they make a fridge so that a customer could service it. Cars are going the same way now...
  8. Good observation. Am sure that I have all the cardboard games mentioned above and many more esp the innovative ones. If there were other humans around, (or if could train cats) I would probably play the Columbia "block" games as the fog of war is so cleverly simulated and the mechanics/game rules are elegant, intuitive and easy to learn and remember. GMT is the other biggish company that still produces a ton of xnt cardboard wargames every year.
  9. I mentioned that I did all this b4. However, that code (that immediately follows the URL) is much shorter than all the other codes that I do have listed on my code sheet. So, I assumed that can't be the entire code(?) "Instead it will be a sticker that is often attached to the game's disc case or possibly the manual." Yes, I did order both CMSF1 and CMA from BF. But, in those days it must have been a disk in the mail. I know they are in a box somewhere but have moved a couple times since 2007. Remind me - how to contact "Support"?
  10. This is something that has bugged me ever since CM2 came out in 2007. What is a realistic load for troops (and HQ's) and what is the realistic role for XO's, 2IC's etc? It is so tempting to load up troops incl HQ's to the max and use every unit including HQ's in a combat role. My SOP now is to limit small arms ammo loads to around 400 rounds per man, maybe more for a MG. Also keep HQ units back in safety as much as possible without extra ammo and maybe give them one AT weapon max for emergencies. Also... even when a couple of guys are carrying several thousand rounds plus AT weapons they don't seem to tire as quickly as one would expect. Seems like the amount that a small team can carry is too generous, or the unit should be movement and fatigue penalized much more heavily than at present. Hope some more experienced combat veteran can comment on what are reasonable combat loads per man or per team.
  11. I have seen in-game Strykers firing automatically at specific units, and also when I issued a TARGET order on an enemy unit - and the AGL's still seemed quite inaccurate along the line of fire. A lot of ammo is wasted.
  12. Possibly this is related to similar AI issue when (say) a tank uses up all its ammo firing at an enemy but every shot hits an intervening tree. The AI doesn't have a routine that says, "Gee, this is a waste of ammo" and stops or moves the unit slightly to get a clear shot. Just curious, can you see where the shots are landing?
  13. 1) Can't find my original CMSF1 disk for code (and for some reason it's not on my code sheet). It's also not on the list of my purchased products at BF site. How to acquire? 2) Is it correct that one can access activation codes by going to "My Account" and clicking on the desired product, then then on the "Sharefile" address that takes one to a d/l page which states the activation code at the top right? (Just want to ensure am getting the correct module codes.) 3) Am just curious why when one installs CMSF2 and activated it via the CMSF2 purchase code, a screen appears telling one that the base game plus modules are activated and one is presented with a PLAY button (which doesn't work). Why contradict the README instructions (which are well written btw)? 4) Re CMA - I can't find my disk and I don't think it is listed on My Products. Would appreciate that CMA code so I can add to my code sheet. Thank you...
  14. Am certain that we all feel your pain. However, maybe get a part-time gig delivering papers or summink, so you could buy the other modules? All the CM2 games are so much better with all modules installed.
  15. Thank you for the clarification, S. So, just to be 100% certain, one can or cannot install a CM2 game to a (single) USB and then plug it into any computer and play?
  16. And 90's and even a few from the 2000's. They still produce some wonderful innovative cardboard wargames - esp deling with uncon and insurgency subjects (eg: GMT Games). Just waiting for Armageddon when the power goes out and I'll still have something to play (and my collection of over a K of games becomes more valuable than gold).
  17. My question is not so much about the number of computers but whether one can install a CM2 game on a computer that has no internet access from a USB (and obviously play the game on that computer). I think you said that one cannot have an activated CM2 game on a USB that can then be played on another computer, yes? Can one have an activated CM2 game on a USB that can then be transferred to a computer with no internet access and then played? Am 1) Trying to avoid having to d/l multiple copies to 2 or 3 computers which might upset certain servers re bandwidth usage, and 2) Trying to figure out if I can play a CM2 game on a system that has no internet connection.
  18. +1 re #2. Perhaps the main problem is that we all use these vehicles at way too short ranges to the enemy. But, that's a map size issue. (Would one use vehicles like a Stryker in a point blank range MOUT op?" re #1 - I also find the (in)accuracy of the AGL's to be odd.
  19. FWIW "Vice" is an xnt movie about Cheney and his early BG. Recommended amidst the mostly mediocre movie offerings out there.
  20. So even if one installs via a USB, one still needs internet to activate? Installing from a USB... does the "installer" contain the whole game - ie: one doesn't need to make any other large downloads(?). That's the main concern when one has slow or dodgy internet.
  21. Thank you... Totally understand your comments that come from your experience... My thought was that if you were on a nearby mission and heard that comrades were in trouble the instinct is to rush to aid. Yes, there would be confusion. But, it's still a potential feature of the scenario. "Things don't go as planned" and "You go with what you got".
  22. Am happy to give BF money now and d/l later when I have time to actually play. Is there a time limit on how long one can wait to d/l a purchased product?
