It's a feature in the program said friend of mine uses.

I use the audio notification. It's a built in feature of Outlook[Express]. For me, this is the best way for notification. I can be in another room and know when I get mail. I just crank up the computer speakers, and walk away. When I hear the OOOOGAH OOOOOGAH (submarine diving alarm) I know I have mail. Works great!
 2. GenSplatton, I think when he said "later in the battle" he meant the same battle.
 3. 109 Gustav welcome back. I haven't been to your site in a long time. It's always a pleasure to go there.
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by Brian: Is this what CM3 should be aiming for?

LOL, no.
 5. If the scratch isn't too severe you may be able to polish it out. You can buy a kit for this, but I've heard you can use toothpaste to get rid of small scratches. I've never had to use either method, but people swear that it words. It goes without saying that making a backup of your CM CD is a good idea for those who have access to a burner.

 8.
quote:
Originally posted by Lane: Check your local tv guide for times. On History channel tonight. All about AT weapons. Panzerschrek, zooks, Lane

I watched it, but it didn't have that much on schreks and zooks. It had more on tanks, TDs, and helicopters. Ah well, it was still better than 99% of what is on tv.
 9. Both gas and diesel engines will have problems with oil freezing up if something isn't done to prevent it. You always have the lube oil, no matter which fuel you use. Aren't there additives you can put into the diesel fuel to minimize this problem?
 10.
quote:
Originally posted by Stalin's Organ: The Diesel engine fitted to the Ju-86 was unusual in that it had 2 pistons in each cylinder, and a separate crankshaft at each end of hte cylinder - the pistons compressed the charge by moving towards each other, and a gearbox merged the power from the 2 crankshafts. This did away with the need to have a strong, heavy cylinder head for each cylinder and was a major reason why hte engine could be made light enough for aircraft use.

The opposed piston diesel engine was developed in the '30's. One of the big advantages to this type engine is that you don't need valves. Instead of intake/exhaust valves you have ports in the cylinder walls. This greatly reduces the number of moving parts. Less moving parts gives you all kinds of advantages.
 11. Right Skipper! I ran a big 12 cylinder Fairbanks-Morse diesel in the navy. That sucker didn't have any glow plugs and didn't need any electicity to start. A bit of compressed air, some diesel fuel, and 24 pistons 8 1/8" in diameter is all she needed.
 12. Another good thing about diesel engines is that they produce less carbon monoxide than a gas engine.
 13. I ran some tests and couldn't smoke out a MG pillbox. I'm guessing that they bailed for a dirrerent reason and it was just a coincidence that the smoke started at about the same time. Remember, machineguns and such can force a crew to bail from a MG pillbox. If you order a tank to smoke a bunker the tank's MGs will fire at it as well. Still, just because I couldn't duplicate it doesn't mean that it is impossible, just unlikely.
 14. Could someone pass those Churchill and Cromwell winter mods on to me please. There are just a few vehicles I don't have mods for and the winter version of these are two of them. Also, if anyone has a winter croc trailer I need that too.
 15. I don't know why you couldn't split them, send them, and then have the receiver combine them. I have split all kinds of files before in the past and never had a problem, so I don't know why a CM PBEM file would not work the same way. Try it and see, then come back if you have any problems.
 16.
quote:
Originally posted by lcm1947: Kingfish, is that your web site? It can't be for real? Somebody's messing with us. Right?

No, it was a real tank. That particular picture on the link Kingfish put up is a bit suspect though. I don't think that guy was originally there, as he seems a bit off in size. Here is the original picture I think:
 17. Hey Kingfish, that's a cool little tank there. It said the British modified the gun to get 4000 ft/sec with a tungsten 30mm round. I wonder what kind of penetration you could get with that round. Anybody know?
 18. Danzig, that's pretty funny. I was cat sitting for my neighbor for a few days. I was trying to play CM and the cat kept jumping up on my keyboard. I guess he thought he could do a better job handling the German "cats" than what I was doing (he was probably right too!).
 19. Awhile back Warren Peace said that his 5 year old was playing. click here for that discussion Unfortunately the thread got locked up. [ 08-22-2001: Message edited by: Subvet ]
 20. Like Pvt. Ryan said, you can normally expect to get wet at 4:00 pm every day around here this time of year. This weekend looks like it may be more wet than normal though. Bring your umbrella. The forcasted temps seem normal: ~90 for the highs, ~75 for the lows.
 21. I currently have a celeron 366 (although, I run it at 550), a TNT 16MB video card, and 192MB ram. I built this system myself for about $3000, although since then it has been upgraded to its current level. I've always been a gamer. I have about 100 games right now. I haven't bought very many new ones in the past year though. Having a kid really cuts into my game time and computer budget. She'll always come before the computer, even with CM. I run all the latest hi-res mods on the above machine and it doesn't seem to run too bad. I don't normally play the really big games though, and I'm sure it would crawl on those big maps with all my mods. I like pretty graphics in some games, but for CM I just don't see the need. Yeah, I know I got all those mods, but I rarely zoom in close enough to see the things in detail. The eye candy is nice, but not needed in my opinion. Let's put it this way: if CM2 used the exact same graphics I'd buy it. I'm looking for better game play in the re-write, not prettier pictures.
 22.
quote:
Originally posted by Simon Fox: No that should be A-bbre-vi-a-tion tut tut

Ah ha! You got me there. I was referring to the pronunciation and didn't even notice the spelling. I don't think you can type a shwa or anything on a computer, so I didn't try to type it out the way it should be.
