  1. Thanks for the tip Admiral! Great site you have there.
  2. Yeah, the Russians had man portable flame weapons. They used the ROKS-2 and ROKS-3. The flame gun itself looked alot like a rifle. This was a good thing for the poor guy who had to carry it, since flamethrower operators usually attracted alot of enemy fire. The ROKS-2 had its tanks made to look like a common backpack as well which further hid its true function. These weapons had a max range of about 50 yards and could fire for about 6-8 seconds. The Soviets also had larger flamethrowers used for static defense. These were usaully buried in the ground except for the actual flame gun showing above ground. The soviets used flamethrower tanks as well. These were used on T-26 tanks in the early days and were later put on KV heavy tanks and T-34s. The Soviets also had the Ampulenjot 1941 System Kartukov which was not really a flamethrower. It was an incendiary projectile launcher similar in concept to the British Newton Mortar. It used a small black powder charge to launch a projectile which was supposed to burst on impact and catch fire. You could think of it as a sort of molotov cocktail thrower.

  4. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Sergeant Saunders: You ever hear of a Moltovi Cocktail? 5. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Big Time Software: If someone takes out a book of matches and burns himself, do you blame the match company? I don't. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I don't either, but a lot of people in the U.S. do. If we smoke cigarettes and get cancer we blame the tobacco companies. If we get shot by some gun toting bad guy we blame the gun manufacturers. If we go to a bar, get drunk, and then hurt ourselves or someone else the bar gets the blame. Actually this whole "Tiger" thing is a sign of the times! Seriously though, I've seen this many times. Someone gets their feelings hurt or their ego bruised and they lash out in an childish way. I was pretty much on Tiger's side in that thread. But I certainly don't like how he has acted lately. Maybe it was time for him to move on. I think this goes deeper than just that one thread. It was probably just the straw that broke the camels back as someone else has already said. When Ultima Online screwed me for the upteenth time, after playing for over three years, awhile back I quit the game and deleted everything related to it. If Tiger would have done something like that I'd have no problem with his actions. But to ask for the removal of all his mods for download was just being childish in my opinion.
  6. In your opinion, what are the best scenarios to play against the AI? Also, where can you currently find them? I have downloaded about 400 different scenarios, but it would be helpful to know which ones are the best for single player games without having to play them all to find out. Thanks in advance.
  7. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Slapdragon: The point is that this is not a simple 12 lines of code. It is a major change to the engine that adds 3 or 4 new mods to each squad marker. You could not just generic them off of one image, you would have to have something in its place for each squad and crew type. I am sure it could be done, just not with a weeks work and a few lines of code. Certainly it wont happen before the engine update.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I don't know why it would take more than a week. All we're talking about here is having the game use bitmap xxxx instead of yyyy. And BTS would ship the game with xxxx as a copy of yyyy. This kind of change shouldn't take that long at all. I'm assuming you were talking about allowing mods to the current markers of course. Changing those markers into a completely different 3D image (tombstone, cross, big black x, etc.) would take longer I guess. I still can't imagine it would take THAT long though.

  9. Does anyone know the answer to this? Is it a lot worse to get shelled when you are in rough vs. swamp?
  10. I have 651 MB of mods. The scary thing is that I pass on a lot of the mods out there. I also have about 400 scenarios downloaded to date.
  11. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Colonel_Deadmarsh: Roadblocks? Yeah, right. What a waste of money.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> In most cases I agree. But they can be extemely effective on some maps. Because vehicles can't go through woods/tall pines or slopes you can actually block off all vehicle traffic from one side of the map to the other!

  14. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Slapdragon: How about some Gnome mods... <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> But then your opponent would download the Beholder mod and eat your forces for lunch. You posted this in another thread regarding the Beholders: "They do not have hands to wipe their poorly positioned bums after passing the remains of the gnomes they just ate."
  15. I don't know much about them, but I recently played a game where I got my butt kicked by them.
  16. LOL, I see I'm not the only one who thinks of that when they hear the word "klingon." But wouldn't that definition be spelled "cling-on?" And Matthew was talking about us wearing "Klingon garb." I don't even want to think about what "cling-on garb" would be. Yuck!
  17. What do Klingons have to do with beholders and their optics??? Jeez, talk about going off topic!
  18. I sure would be sorry to see your site go. My view is put everything up on the site. People can download/read/use what they want and if they don't like something they can just avoid it. I've downloaded a ton of stuff from your site. If there was something I didn't like I just passed it by. I don't know why people want to bitch at you about something they don't like. I hope you don't let these folks run you off; although, I understand if you choose not to deal with it anymore.
  19. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by chrisl: an abandoned tank can come back (assuming the crew isn't wiped out) in a later battle and the tank doesn't wind up behind enemy lines. For this reason, if you cause a bunch of tanks (or one KT) to be abandoned, it can be worth advancing your lines to prevent recovery. A knocked out tank is gone.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Can't you also target an abandoned tank to make sure it is knocked out for good? I haven't played operations, so I'm not sure about that.
  20. I don't know. Each beholder has 11 optics which can all look in different directions. Not only that, but the optics are quite effective weapons on their own.
  21. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Dunnee: However, My opinions were made in regards to "minor" hits. Hence the rear view mirror comment. I perfectly understand the dangers of being a tank crewman in WW2, and you're right. Experienced crews were more valuable than tanks during the Normandy campaign, so they would bail if being hit. My posts were based largely on near misses and being able to continue. If a shot takes off your antenna, sure it's scary, but would you bail? Would you bail if you could continue to fight? That's what I was trying to say. Love me or hate me, I'm here so deal with it...<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Actually what you said you were talking about were penetrating hits that didn't knock out the tank. You think a penetrating hit is a minor concern? Now you're talking about near misses and being able to continue? When is the last time you saw a crew bail from a near miss AP round in the game? Or a round that took off an antenae? As far as dealing with "it," that is what people responding to you are doing.
  22. I'll reply to the original tips by jwxspoon and then add some of my own. 1. Arty: I agree with you. The only reason I buy the small stuff now is for smoke. I try to get at least 105mm+; 150mm+ is even better. 2. Patience: I definitely agree with this. For me this is one of the hard ones to follow even though I know that I need to. It is especially true with armor. Often the player who shows his armor first loses it. 3. Air power: I have to disagree with you here. It can make all the difference, but it is dicey. I'd rather spend all those points on something I can control. Air power is just too random for me. The only time I might use it is if I was fairly sure that my opponent was going to use a lot of open topped armor. Strafing aircraft just tear these vehicles up. 4. Flamethrowers: The self-propelled types are very effective. I'm not a fan of the infantry ones though. They are way too slow and way too vulnerable. I might use them when defending though. The self-propelled ones have become some of my favorite vehicles. If I'm attacking a town/village I'll usually buy these. The wasp is my favorite. The churchill FT tank is pretty cool as well, but it's expensive. 5. Reserves: Always try to hold back some kind of infantry reserve. When you can bring fresh troops in on the later turns they can be very effective. It is also easier to move them to the spot where you need the help if they aren't engaged on the front lines. Another reason this is a good idea is... 6. Ammo: If it gets to the point where one side is out of ammo and the other isn't which one do you want to be? Try not to waste ammo on fire that probably isn't going to be effective anyway. I love it when an opponent uses his infantry to plink at my infantry in good cover from long range. Once he runs out of ammo I can close to a more deadly range and eliminate him. How many times have you played a game where you burned up all your arty early on some targets that weren't really that great, and then late in the game your opponent presents that perfect target to you? Don't end the game with unused arty, but don't use it all in the first 5 turns of a 30 turn game either.
