Thresher was never raised, renamed and put back into service. I assume you mean the boat that sank in '63, SSN-593, and not SS-200 which was also named Thresher. SSN-593 sank in very deep water and was crushed. It was in small pieces when finally located. SS-200 never sank and it had a pretty successful war time record.
