  1. I've been using 64 bit Vista for about 3 months now. I haven't had even one problem yet that I can blame on Vista (I have an issue running CM, but that is due to screwed up drivers from my video card manufacturer). So far it has been flawless. I installed it on a new machine I put together with all new components, so driver issues weren't a problem. If I was going to install an OS on an old machine I'd still use XP; but, for new machines Vista seems like the smart way to go.
  2. They gave you lube??? I feel like I got it dry and rough.
  3. AMAZING!!! I'm floored by that one. Someone has some real talent for that sort of thing. You could probably give me a year, and I still wouldn't be able to come up with that.
  4. Very nice EB! Mine only works for one pass, while yours continues to beat Mars like a rented mule!

  6. Here's my Mission to Mars design. http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=2428857
  7. That was pretty funny, and unfortunately pretty accurate too. I recently saw a good, simple explaination to how the subprime mess happened. Here's a link: http://docs.google.com/TeamPresent?docid=ddp4zq7n_0cdjsr4fn&skipauth=true&pli=1
  8. I would stay away from tape. What about just using hard drives? Mirror a couple of large hard drives. I know you said your aren't that worried about speed, but I'm not sure you appreciate just how slow tape is. Hard drives are HUNDREDS of times faster than tape. Tapes wear out too. You'll have to replace them every couple of years if you want the reliability to be there. To top it off, hard drives are cheaper. I use a tape backup solution every day at my job. We are definitely looking at converting over to a backup server using hard drives in the near future.
  9. According to the AP the ship had: "a substantial quantity of ammunition and spare parts"
  10. Ebert is the guy who gave "Die Hard" 2 stars and "Speed 2: Cruise Control" 3 stars (out of 4). Movie fans on IMDB gave "Die Hard" 8.2 out of 10 and "Speed 2" 3.3 out of ten. I tend to believe the general public over so called "experts" when it comes to reviews. Here's a review from IMDB:
  11. I didn't think Jungle Fever was too bad. I kind of enjoyed it.
  12. A lot of bad stuff gets passed on through breast milk. I'll pass.
  13. From the Fox News article: "Nobody is suggesting that tens of thousands died" I wouldn't say "nobody"...
  14. I forgot to mention, my daughter likes it cold right from the can. She's a somewhat picky eater too. Honestly, I think it tastes pretty good.
  15. I usually slice up a few potatoes into small cubes and throw them into a frying pan. After cooking them for a short time I chop up an onion and a can of spam. I throw that in with the potatoes. I cook this mix until the potatoes are done, salt and pepper to taste, and serve it up. My daughter loves this stuff. When I was a little kid I spent a lot of time living aboard a sailboat with my family travelling the great lakes. It was a small boat and didn’t have much in the way of food storage, especially refrigerated storage. Because of this, Spam was a convenient food. The way my mom prepared it was as I discussed above. She called it “Spam Slam.”
  16. I don't know how the other branches handle it, but that is definitely not the case for Navy SEALS. Back when I joined (late 80's) you could volunteer in bootcamp. Now-a-days you can apply to be a SEAL before you even go to bootcamp!
  17. Here in Southeast Florida there's a chance of finding some treasure from an old Spanish shipwreck washed up on the beaches. It happens more often than you might think. They don't call this the "Treasure Coast" for nothin'!
  18. I agree with all of that. I too found those things disappointing. There is certainly some room for improvement in this game. Overall I enjoy it though. The cool thing is that it's a game that appeals to both me and my 9 year old daughter. I can't think of any other games I can say that about.
  19. At first I thought the space stage might be frustrating, but once I got the hang of it I liked it. I think the problem some people are having with it is that they are playing "turtle" too much. If you are content with just staying on your homeworld and moon I can see why you would be very frustrated. You have to explorre out a little bit and either defeat or become friends with your neighbors. That should take care of most of your problems of constantly being under attack.
  20. If he's a POW then wouldn't the U.S. keep him in a POW camp until the war is over? The "war on terror" may never have an end. That means he gets a life sentence at Guantanamo (or some other POW camp)???
  21. I do too. I remember watching the movie "Wag the Dog" and recognizing the civilian female scream from X-Com. I still remember that scream like I heard it yesterday. I still hear it once in a while on TV too.
  22. Would you have drawn the opposite conclusion if her daughter wasn't pregnant???
  23. It looks like Hanna won't be that bad, and it will miss my neck of the woods (South Florida) completely. However, Ike is looking down right scary right now. It seems like it was recently just a minor storm and suddenly now it's a Cat 4 monster!
  24. Black holes don't destroy the universe. They are all over the universe now. The middle of our galaxy probably has a huge black hole located there. Think of a black hole as being a large star that takes up very little space. A large star doesn't automatically suck in everything around it; most things nearby (planets, comets, asteroids) are orbiting around it. The same is true of a black hole. When a large star collapses and forms a black hole it doesn't gain any more gravitational pull then when it was a still a star.
