Actually, even the Beta team is playing the game with add-on beta test functions removed for the first time and the game just flies! My computer has never liked 'huge' maps. CMBS does even better in that regard that CMRT, which was a huge improvement over earlier title.

MikeyD got a reaction from agusto in Hit Decals!
The combination of hit decals with ERA boxes does seem to confuse matters somewhat. You see exploded ERA boxes with a nice non-penetrating hit decal beneath it, or sometimes there's no exploded ERA box and no hit decal on top of it - BUT you find an exit hole out the back!

MikeyD got a reaction from LukeFF in Could this be the best yet?
"isn't the stock terrain texture the same as in CMRT?" It depends on your definition of 'stock terrain'. Roads are modern, pavement is modern, houses and bridges are modern , telephone poles and street signs are changed. Yes, birch leaves are still birch leaves. I don't know how a 2017 birch leaf would differ from a 1944 birch leaf.

MikeyD got a reaction from gunnersman in Is it best to leave a "TC" with the BMP2?
I was just play a scenario yesterday, I forgot which one,  where Russians were rolling in the direction of my Ukrainian bmps. I hastily grabbed the nearest unit, split them and sent a team into the BMP so they'd have some commander 'eyeballs' to scout for targets. I unbuttoned them too so the commander would be heads-up. A very dangerous move considering the number of snipers but BMP-2 is previous-generation and doesn't have the best situational awareness in the best of times.

MikeyD got a reaction from gunnersman in 330 QB maps!
For those who haven't noticed, the CMBS QB map folder is full to overflowing. 330 maps, and some pretty spectacular looking maps too. Complete with multiple AI orders, triggers, the whole nine yards. All hail MarkEzra for his work assembling those. I just got done playing a QB on a huge map involving a dam on a river, an overpass highway, a huge railroad bridge and a rock quarry. Great fun to play.

Downloading today is rather like Starwars fans sitting out in the rain waiting for the big movie premiere. If they had just waited til the next day to see the movie they could have walked into the theater without a line.

MikeyD got a reaction from sburke in Laser Warning - anyway to keep tanks from backing?
Initially the Beta testers had been requesting a toggle for laser warning response but when they saw how quickly unprotected vehicles tended to die in the game the calls for a toggle quickly dwindled. A backing up vehicle is inconvenient, a mass of twisted burning wreckage is even MORE inconvenient!  Most vehicles I think only get two chances at popped smoke before they're out, then you're on your own after that.

MikeyD got a reaction from Cuddles the Warmonger in Bug with American Squad Point Cost? Or Intended?
Points are apportioned out according to the 'relative' abilities and/or rarity of the unit. US units carry ANPEQ 16A laser pointers, M320A1 grenade launchers, AMPAS-13G, HWTS, MWTS and AN-PVS-30 night sights, the best body armor, etc etc etc. Ukrainians are fighting in Ukraine so would be more numerous. So they're cheaper.

MikeyD got a reaction from Buzz in Thanks for the scenario design AAR book with the BS download
I had to chuckle. It seems there's going to be some confusion referring to the game as 'BS'. I wonder why they rejected my suggestion of 'CM:Fortress Ukraine'.

If they had released the game during the World Cup - THEN there'd be a problem!  American football you can play an entire scenario during the commercial breaks.

Preorder is not a feature for you but for them. Its a common method to gauge level of interest and estimate the amount of product that needs to be printed/burned before release date. Without use of preorders they might release the game only to discover they had printed-up half the manuals they needed, or twice the number. As the industry shifts to download purchase then the preorder customer interest estimate becomes less necessary. I can't recall, there weren't any preorders for CMBN vehicle pack, right?

And BFC doesn't control overseas shipping costs. That's kind'a a governmental thing.

MikeyD got a reaction from umlaut in Fury Movie Discussion.
Though the worst piece of the movie, that part with the Tiger was only one small episode. I think they were trying to depict hitting the tank with smoke then covering open ground quickly and getting behind him. Their plan fizzled when the Tiger didn't cooperate and instead rolled forward through the smoke to meet them. Necessitation keeping all three Shermans in the same frame (and not widely separated dots on the horizon) for movie purposes kind'a screwed up the depiction of the tactic.

I had joked awhile ago that BFC can't guarantee a release date because there's always things like accidents and blizzards to contend with. And look what happened, the worst of the current blizzard hit directly on top of Charles! Talk about blizzards, I'm off shoveling.
