  1. OIF. Yes the official Iraqi story is that farmer Mustapha and his trusty musket brought down the big bad AH64. One of the funniest video clips of the war.
  2. We put you in for the Medal of Honor but it was downgraded to a field grade article 15.
  3. Actually the gun itself isn't stabilized. The sight is, and even then it is only in one axis. They use software tricks to fool the computer into thinking it is completely stable. That's why you will see the gun bouncing around. The fire control computer will only allow the gun to fire when it is aligned correctly. The turret should stay pointed at the target though. There is some pretty neat footage of the Abrams hull doing doughnuts while the turret stays locked in position.
  4. Gordon has been a little busy. Trust me though, it will be more than worth the wait.
  5. You might want to review the attack by the 11th Aviation Regiment that resulted in the downing of one Apache and severe damage to several others. It wasn't Shilkas that chewed that battalion up it was a bunch of guys firing whatever they had into the air. Most of the choppers suffered damage when they had to slow to get good shots off.
  6. Also keep in mind that they are basically hovering over their target at very close range with no threat from AAA or SAMs. The choppers in the game are making runs on the target in an environment that is much more hostile.
  7. If you look carefully you will notice that the crew had left a stack of pita on the top of the turret from breakfast. Pita bread is a well known defense against blast effects.
  8. They come in easy to carry party packs that you can pick up at the local truck stop.
  9. Just remember what my old platoon sergeant used to tell me. "There is no movement without fire." Suppressive fire isn't necessarily aimed fire. So blanket likely enemy positions then target actual positions as they are identified. You never want to give the enemy the luxury of firing aimed shots at your men even for a moment.
  10. Read about the sim the Army did about 73 easting and the results of just having the Iraqis in their vehicles and oriented the right way. Way different fight. It was also not that flat. The Iraqi position was essentially a reverse slope defense as the 2ACR had to top a ridge before they could see the defensive line. The Iraqis, however, were so concerned about US air that many of their vehicles were unmanned and the word to prepare for immediate action was appearently never passed down to the line troops.
  11. That's because Charles is awesome and works for fish food. The rest of the budget pays for Madmatt's mustache wax.
  12. John, You have that backwards. The blast would head towards the CITV. In any case, stuff happens in combat. You either accept that or you don't but it is reality. People can believe that if X then Y is always the case or you can accept that US infantrymen did kill a Panther from the front with a lowly bazooka, or that a Panther was killed by a 37mm round, or that 300 guys held off a German armored corps and suffered only 7 KIA. If you want rock/paper/scissors then play warcraft.
  13. Nice. I liked the early versions. I use it a lot to test infantry behavior.
  14. Very nice. I tend to work backwards from the way you do it. I set the elevations first and then begin adding the buildings and stuff. Excellent work. Are you planning on incorporating your Aleppo scenario into this campaign?
  15. They have them in the game because they would have them in reality. You can always come to an agreement with your opponent not to use them. Or ask the scenario designer to leave them out. As to tactics, use whatever you have to deny your opponent firing opportunities. Keep your vehicles in cover till they can identify a target and then blast the crap out of it. Advance with your infantry to draw his fire then use supporting fires to clobber identified positions. Javelin equipped infantry is powerful but vulnerable and if you take out a squad or team then you eliminate 3 missiles. Of course he has the advantage, the US Army spent a lot of time and money to insure that this was the case. If you are without cover then you will have to rely on speed and firepower and hope for the best. If you are in a really hopeless situation then you will just lose.
  16. You either have a crew with really good luck or a Javelin gunner with really bad luck. This isn't rock-paper-scissors, A does not automatically kill B. I've had BMP's survive tank rounds. Stuff happens.
  17. Rolls off your toungue... and lands on your foot sending you to the hospital.
  18. Try the same setup with Syrian SF and RG units. They have NVGs as well.
  19. Then he needs to play better and not let you get into firing positions.
  20. "He's either got the best or the worst luck in the squad, I can't decide."
  21. First title is from 0600 to 1200 7 June '44. Other titles will cover the next 6 hours, and so on.
  22. Go ahead. I mod their scenarios all the time. It's not like you can sell them. Seriously though, it's not a problem. Just be sure to ask or at least give credit to the original designer if you plan to release it to the public. In most cases there will be no problem but you never know when someone might decide to freak out.
  23. Very nice. Now if they would expand the topo site to the rest of the world.
