Should I buy Combat Mission: Battle for Normandy?

did you see the ove rone hour utube video with the Germmans attacking ?

I felt exactly like you untile I watched this vid, wow

I think I will be pleased, hope you will be too, AND

there is a demo coming very shortly

I am interested after the Demo how you feel..lets see together

I absolutely love the first games but I need to let them go and get something more modern (Graphically speaking). The videos are all well done and the game looks amazing. I'm a WeGo type of player. Real time don't fit with my tactical play style (sitting at my computer for a half hour trying to figure out how not to die the next turn). I'm gonna buy it. I just needed some encouragement about that interface.

You know, you can play both SF and BN in We-go. You don't have to play in real time at all.

The entire QB system has been redone. It's a sort of hybrid between the CMx1 method and the CM:SF system. Testers and about 30 non-testers who attended previews seem to agree with us that what we have now is the best of three system.

There are a couple of hundred premade maps to choose from. These can be chosen randomly, based on your settings, or manually. There is no random map maker and there will never be one. It's impractical to make now that the terrain is vastly more complex and smaller scale. Plus, the AI Plans need to be tailored to the map so you get a good fight. The old CMx1 generic AI behavior was OK, but quite predictable.

Don't buy it. If you do, you will lose interest in the other things in life which added a bit of zest to your otherwise boring existance. You'll pine for the fresh details of a PzIV rather than your wife. Your children will seem inconsequential compared to the needs of your troops. Wherever you live will look dull and boring when compared to the maps available in the game. You will find hours have gone by while you sit at your keyboard. Your hands will be shaking from lack of food. Your eyesight will be blurred due to staring at the screen. You'll forego showering for "just one more turn". Your life as you know it will be forevermore ended. No, do not buy this game.

LOL !!! .......and might i add, the adrenalin rush one gets when receiving the video file of that pivotal turn should be illegal !!!

I played the Shock Force demo and didn't like it. I didn't like the real time gameplay and also the interface was a departure from CM1,2,and 3. I always loved the original CMX1 games better. Rough around the edges but enduring. My eyes are set on this new one but am I gonna be disappointed?

I'm playing the SF demo. I have completed "Going to Town" and am most of the way through the Brit. Demo. The Tutorial took a couple of restarts, mostly for tactical reasons: those Strykers ain't ver' tuff.

You don't have to play RT. The interface rapidly becomes second nature. I've nearly stopped mistakenly extending units' movement paths when I click on the next unit, and it's been a while since I didn't notice and roll it back. Other than that, the 'multi-pane' was a bit of a pain to start with til I discovered the f-keys to switch.

The combat environment is a bit of a shock (phear the ATGM), and sometimes it's hard to orient yourself in all that sand, but get used to using Tab (to lock view to a unit) and then the Q and E keys to scan about. The 'mouse in the corner' to rotate is still plain irritating. Remember if you move your viewpoint (using WASD), rather than rotating it, you can always hit Tab to get back to where you thought you'd be. Once you've unit-locked the view, cycling through units the lock moves too, so you can pan around easily.

There's so much more cool stuff (like ammo resupply, recrewing vehicles and all the neat things like that) in CMx2, that if you liked CM1, you will adore CMx2 if you can get past what's quite a small learning hump, interface wise.

I think the modern setting in SF is what stopped me from Sticking it out to learn the interface. One thing is for certain WWII is where I want my wargames right now. CM is looking good right now.

Don't forget the Spacebar - this brings up most of the commands available for your pixeltruppen so you don't need to worry about most of the interface if you really can't get the hang of it.

But yeah, buy it - for the price of a good night out you'll get years of fun. Sounds like a bargain to me.
