WOW

I mean WOW   !!!!

two things

First off this looks like this will help out with the production of CMBB, BUT the contest Closes Feb 28 so I could easily be a month or two or three after that before we see the actual game. Thats just my personal conjecture.....

BUT look at this list of all the models they are looking for......

from this page:

http://www.battlefront.com/Model_Contest/Model_contest.html

Vehicle models eligible for submission

Please note that NOT ALL of the models

below will end up in the game.

Some vehicles were upgraded throughout

there production cycle while retaining the

same model name. Those vehicle

revisions are noted in parenthesis.

Here is a link to the Missing Links modeling site. Check out all of the cool models!

http://www.missing-lynx.com

Here is a good Panzer III. It must be from the winter of '41 or '42, because you can still see the panzer grey paint job underneath. The thing looks real.

Heya Guys,

Hehe, I see it didnt take you all long to find the competition...at least you saved us from making an announcement here I guess. smile.gif

Guys, as has been noted, that list is a *potential* vehicle list for CMBB, but how many make it in does depend on time and how we progress with development. The more model submissions we get the more time it will save us and thus more vehicles will make it in though, so please feel free to spread the word as far as you can! smile.gif

Dan, what exactly is the purpose of the contest - are you simply illiciting ideas for mods, or are you counting on photo perfect models that you can simply translate into CM skins? I submitted 10 Mb of photos of a crappy 1/72 T-34 I built about 15 years ago; it would never win a model contest, but the colour scheme and markings are cool and might serve as some inspiration (as is the aerial recognition flag on the back).

I have some other kits I never felt the need to build, but am seriously thinking of fishing them out.

Are you looking for historical marking schemes? I had presumed all the skins in CM would be based on historical schemes. I'm also hoping Panzer Grey will be the predominant scheme (as it was historically) during the 41-42 period - and that the schemes will change over time.

Will the "official" CM2 skins include "fantasy" schemes and markings?

Will they be unit specific or generic?

Or are you leaving it up to us.... ;)

Hi Michael!

I think I might be recieving your model at the moment...Im glad I have a cable account, hehe.

There are two purposes behind the modelling competition. FIrstly, we were wanting to generate some interest in CMBB amongst the modelling community. I think there would be more than one modeller whome would love to see them Panther come to life smile.gif

Secondly, yes, it will help us with texturing. Generally we are mainly after historically accurate textures, but even if models are not particually accuracte we can edit them significantly before applying them to a vehicle. Just getting the visual details of a vehicle (such as the hull top of a Tiger tank) can save us a lot of time. You would be surprised just how much time even a nice shot of a skdfz 152's road wheels can save us overall, probably a couple of hours.

Put it in a different way...If we could get a texture set for eveny vehicle on that list, you would probably see every one in CMBB!

Dan

PS : Oh, and yes, we are wanting to have pre-42 vehicles panzer grey, mid war vehicles yellow (with or without camo) and possibly even having late 44-45 vehicle in ambush, if time permits. smile.gif

PPS : Hehe, and to answer the question you added after I started types...we are generally after realistic camo schemes. They dont have to be matching a particular photo, but they should be something that wouldnt look out of place on the battlefield either.

I take it then that if we clean some things up digitally - ie straighten out gun barrels, say (for the overhead shots), or copy a couple of track links overtop of where the model track meets up on itself, it won't be considered "cheating"

Maybe you can post a list of submissions to date, so we can see which vehicles haven't been submitted? No point buying that photo etched rare Hungarian tank kit if ya already have ten of 'em...

Michael, generally it would probably be best to enter models unaltered as such alterations can cause odd artifacts from time to time, but if you are comfortable with such minor changes that probably wouldnt be a problem.

If we get several submission for the one vehicle type we will be sure to let you know, but in many cases we would like multiple textures. Check out how many different Pz-III's we have for isntance smile.gif

"I hope a German operated T-34 will not sport the same paint job as its Red Army counterpart."

Hehe, no, that would look pretty silly, wouldnt it smile.gif

Dan

PS : Mace, what sort of models do you have there, hehe. I might get you to scan in some of the plates ;)

I think you should put up rules on proper lighting! The best mods "flesh out" the 3D structure of a tank with shadows and highlights! I bet you have a lot of experience how the light source has to be positioned to achieve the same effect. Maybe you could share this! Also what type of light source is recommendable (daylight?).

Regards,

Thomm

I wonder, will we also start to see something so prosaic as say, ammunition trailers for the various German FlaK halftracks?

Looking through Missing Links gallery it seems like the competition could be a success, even if not one single new model is built. Those models are truly extraordinarily beautiful!

And by now CM should be enough of a household name to draw more attention than model search for CM:BO.

I don't have anything to send myself but I hope you get drowned in a deluge of quality submissions Kwazy smile.gif

It might be good to have the contest more prominently displayed on the Missing Links website, if it can be arranged. I couldn't readily find mention of the contest done in conjunction with Battlefront, though a different competition was displayed. Seems if you want to attract modelers, it would be good to have the contest highlighted on the modeling web page.

Of course, I could be (and probably am) just blind and missed it. Anyway, just my two-bits.

Hey all, we need to be organized on this! We need to get the word out! We need a constantly updated list of what has been done, and what needs to be done!

In essence, the powers that be have put which vehicles are included right under our control... let's make sure we get them all.

I have already sent Pz III L and T34/76A (1941), I have a 1/24 Panther I will be sending also. I have a SdKfz 251 with howitzer (/9?) I will likely send as well.

Shep, I take it you are starting a list.
