Alexey Tyuzhin posted this official Ukrainian MoD video on the OPLOT. Dated but juicy!

BM Oplot now is under modernization program with codename "Bastion". First tank of this project has to appear in 2023 for test program. BM Oplot was great tank for own time, but now it already doesn't match to modern demands and has very expensive production cost. Also there is problem with some specific parts, which produce in Russia.

In parallel way deeper upgrading of T-64BV will be continue under "Crab" program. This is not about T-64BV mod.2017, but other vehicle - with new engine, with communication systems, integrated in digital battlefield command system, with upgraded protection form the top-attacks etc. The first tank of "Crab" program is expected through the year

The third program is upgrading of current BM Bulat park. New engine and T-80UD transmission + digital communication systems + new sights, including thermal

I see second/third hand Leopards in their not too distant future.

We rejected even from idea to buy modern IFVs, and will upgrade old soviet coffins like BMP-1. Western armor are too expencive toys. Tanks will be more expencive, than IFVs. Poland already has negative experience of Leopard usage despite their economical situation much better than our.

Though stockpiles of decomissioned German Murders and Denmark M113s as if say "all this can serve many years in our army and with less problems, then old soviet vehicles". There were many criticism about AT-105 Saxon buying, but the time showed it turned out great APC, which almost didn't bring headache for maintennance personnel unlike old BTR-60/70. These APCs to this time serve like fronline medical evacuators and staff vehicles.

That's probably the nicest thing I've ever heard said about the Saxon.....Callng it an APC is a bit generous though.

Heh... Why? APC is ARMORED personal CARRIER. Not "wheelled IFV". With own task - safety carring of personnel or injured they coped remarkably. Not counting BTR-4 they were single light armor vehicles, which side armor resisted to SVD bullet. Saxons saved many lifes, evacuating wounded under fire. And as I know no one Saxon was lost because of enemy fire.

T-64B1M (ID by Alexey Tyuzhin on his FB page) with what I suspect may be field expedient engine protection vs. field artillery and MRLs. Haiduk, what do you think?

Oh, no, no :) Looks like guys from "Azov" (this is the tank of their tank company) just decided to use the "basket" on the back of turret for transporting a big amount of wood at once for blindage building or some other position works.

@Haiduk  Am I correct in suspecting that this:Is an upgraded T-64BM2?

I'm trying to figure out what if anything happened to them.....Mostly for modelling purposes, unsurprisingly.  ;)

No, this is specifically upgraded T-64B1M for Kongo contract. In 2014 all tanks of this party were requizitioned and directed to establihing of tank company of "Azov". They participated in clashes for Shyrokyne in 2015, one tank got ATGM hit in the turret, but Nozh ERA worked properly. Though anyway that tank was moved to repair.

The US recently bought from Ukraine and already has in the States an OPLOT-M. Also of interest is that Nozh has seen combat and did its job, preventing the tank struck from being destroyed, but the tank hit did receive significant (and not detailed) damage. Believe the previous OPLOT referred to in the article was the earlier original OPLOT.

The article makes no sense, why would the US import a BM Oplot to train its troops on a vehicle that Ukraine doesn't use?

Or are they planning to invade Thailand?

Sgt.Squarehead,

Maybe troop training is a cover story. Maybe what's really going on is technical intelligence study (and likely, testing), which is not unreasonable, given it's got lots of goodies on it, including Duplet/Nozh-2, Shtora and a Ukrainian made set of thermals in a hunter-killer sight for the TC. Additional value stems from the OPLOT-M being in Pakistani Army service.

Gunner's thermal sight TPN-1-TPV vs. usual gunner's sight 1G42 in T-64BV mod.2017:

TDA tank smoke station, which generates a cloud of dense smoke, covers neighbor truck for 1G42, but thermal sight easily can spot the truck behind the smoke.

How TDA works in movement (this feature not represented in CM)

What can see the gunner of T-64BV/BV mod.2017 in own perscope and 1G42 gun sight

Nope.

They bought T-80UDs instead.....Then topped off with Al Khalids (in much the same way that Thailand switched to buying Chinese tanks after the Oplot fiasco).

When did Russia ever advertised their attack on another country before??? Remeber where you heard this first!

But I think, this with Ukraine. Is just a big fu***ng maskirovka. And the real assault, will come in the baltic states. When all eyes are at Ukraine! With the possible take over, of the unsinkable aircraftcarrier in the island of Gotland. With Gotland in their hands. Russia can put Kalibr SSM´s and S-400 SAM´s. And close the southern baltic sea. So no NATO help to the NATO members of the Baltic States.

Is this only my delusion?

The Estonian Goverment asked for more NATO troops the last week. Sweden has trippled their military presence on Gotland the last week, and is flying dubble their normal of Sigint/Elint over the baltic sea. And what is (probbably) Russian drones. Big millitary drones, have been flying in formations, over the Swedish Capital Stockholm. And at the same time, in a coordinated thing. Over all our nuclear reactors att the same time (and It´s about 600km between them). With large millitary drones, just a few days ago, and several days in a row. In a demonstration of power!!!

And then Russia accuse Estland, and Sweden. To be the one´s that rise tention in the area 😄

Really hope, that Battlefront not have a game of the Baltic incoming. Since that usualy means it will happen 😐

And the Baltic states just sent their most advanced weapons to Ukraine.
