Also I wonder if anything can be done against people who surrender at the beginning and in turn give an insane amount of points to the other player without fighting at all. Kinda skews the leaderboard.

@ALBY and I just played a really fun scenario he came up with that hones your skills at indirect fire and the use of spotters and drones in CMBS.  We each had mechanized forces (which included only 1 tank) and 7 drones each.  Reinforcements came in at each 5 minute mark that gave you more and more capability.  It would really make a good training or tournament game.

Usually it is an indication for other enemy units still around in close proximity.
I had the same instance recently with my germans in CMRT. Two of my soldiers were raising there hands and the soviets were standing so close that they could have given them a high five.
But one of my fireteams that was like 30m away kept them from totally giving into the soviets. Just as that fire team crawled further away and was out of sight, those 2 fellows finally started their long march to siberia.
So you need to clear the surroundings first to really get them. And always keeping an eye on those prisoners in spe...these bastards tend to pick up their weapons again if you keep them unchecked.

@BFCElvis any chance we can get extensions to these rounds of only 30 days? If not this rd then maybe next one? Its just not enough time. I see we're down to 10 days left now and may not finish my battles. Despite decent turn rates from my opponent. Fingers crossed he knows how to cease fire and the deadline to do so.
Slitherine is hurting their own tournaments with these short rds. I'm thinking the limit should be +10 to the battle time. So a 20 min battle gets 30 days or a 30 min battle gets 40 days.

I did capture the town but with sheer luck and in the very last minute. I took the left side (from Soviet point of view) for my mech infantry and the right side for most of the tanks. Right went pretty smooth as there are a few paths that are almost completely covered. There is one such on the left side but I only routed part of the traffic there. Paid a high price for that stupidity. In principle I was lucky that my opponent chose to do a rather static defense on the ridge and in the second town. A few tanks around Mittelaschenbach would have been a massacre... Well, it still was, it was "only" a draw but that was way more than I had anticipated. Managed to push the US over the 50% casualties threshold in addition.
I made a top down screenshot most turns and plan to do an AAR at some point for discussing what could have been improved.

Round 2 status: My CMRT opponent is a no show. The CMBN battle had like 2 turns and then my opponent stopped playing. The CMCW battle is heating up and I just lost my M1 *sobs*
I hope I get an active player for the third CMCW battle. Should be a new and interesting red vs red scenario.

Don't surrender.  You just give your opponent maximum (100%) points.  Do ceasefires.  At least you have a chance for some points (maybe not the case as Russians the way the first two scenarios were designed but in other yes) and your opponent will get points they earned.
 

No, both of us did quite well as the Americans and failed miserably as the soviets. Pugstorm did throw in the towel earlier than me as the Soviet side, I tried to get a tank (suicide mission) into the town but they got massacred on their way there and eventually had no forces left to do anything with and surrendered.

I must say, I love the scenario valley of ashes, but there is a lot do and not a lot of time. I think it’s one of the slower playing scenarios due to size and the number of commands required each turn. It’s likely too big for a tournament where the majority of players are so uncommitted.

I can't remember if I posted this once before when CW first came out, but I have still a small pocket handbook that was issued to all FIST Chiefs in the 1/320FA back then. At the time I got this book I was a FIST Chief in A Btry, 1/320FA (Abn), later a Fire Direction Officer at battery and battalion level (in 2/321FA (Abn), and later still a Fire Support Officer (at both Bn and Bde level in 1st Bde). 
It's 5 separate pdfs. The first one has a lot of info on how a Soviet MRR would operate in the attack, which may help with tactics opposing them. It describes the recon element, the advanced battalion, with tactics and TOE. There is a nice table on how each element is organized and fights, along with (importantly!!) vulnerabilities. There is a lot of fire support information which will be more useful for background information, but does include a lot of specs of both US and Soviet equipment - rates of fire, shell weights, even airlift requirements to move a battery and supply it by air. In those tables DRF and DRB refer to the Division Ready Force, and Division Ready Battalion, referring to the artillery units associated with the infantry brigade that is on "Mission" cycle - the ones who are always ready to fly away at a moment's notice. One battery is direct support for an infantry Bn, one artillery Bn in direct support of an infantry brigade. Back then those direct support roles remained rigid, so that the same units batteries always supported the same infantry. For example as a FIST Chief, I supported C Co, 1-325 Inf (Abn). We trained with them in the field all the time, so we built a good working relationship. 
The TOE for US is specific to the 82d Airborne so you can't really apply it to a US mechanized unit. More men per squad, limited vehicles, etc. The 82d is kind of unique, and keep in mind that it's walking infantry, and the tactics for defense are described as the 82d being put in a position to oppose a mechanized Soviet advance, but in general terms, they still apply pretty well.

They may help with tactics opposing Soviet advances, which in the AI scripting are pretty well based on how it's described here. Any fans of Flashpoint Campaigns (either Red Storm or Southern Storm) may also find them useful there - easier to see the larger scale Soviet organization unfold.

Hamas is full of fanatics. No matter what concessions Israel or the West attempts to give them will only allow them to regroup and try all over again. Israel MUST render them completely ineffective in order to put this to rest for at least another decade.

im discording with my oppo who said he completed turns but they did not show in my folder and I am troubleshooting with him now.
thank you to artkin and elvis.  my email has always been there.  ill keep an eye on behavior and see if i stay connected in this round.  what i suspect now is that if you have any break in connection while playing a turn, you are hosed.
thanks to our perennial champ for the instructions above.  however, this is obviously an issue for both old and new players and a more specific set of play instructions needs to be issued to support PBEM++ tournament play.

That sucks my friend. It’s the luck of the draw. Hopefully we can get some etiquette established around ghosting tourney oppos and ruining their chances.
i saw that some of the top games did not finish and I find that a little weird.
